The panel where his eyes grow lighter and lighter as he realizes who he is, who Atsushi is, and how much Atsushi means to him just as Atsushi dies to save him, is honestly magical

short time ago the unfortunate thought came to me that if by some chance Atsulucy for Canon, it would be disrespectful to ship Shin soukoku, Because it would be disrespectful to the asagiri's choice to make them Canon. or else asagiri could say that he doesn't like people shipping Shin So I would automatically be the one forced to stop shipping my comfort ship.Do you agree that someday Asagiri would do this or that if Atsulucy is Canon we should stop shipping Shin Soukoku?

Well Asagiri said he "doesn't want to disrespect the real life authors" but I feel like that isn't true (or at least, Asagiri does want to respect them but just doesn't really), because I mean, in Bsd half the authors are murderers and terrorists and do so many horrible things, plus Higuchi was a real author and she's in love with Akutagawa (I do not support Akuhigu I think it's a horribly toxic ship)

It's definitely respect in terms of Asagiri isn't bashing on the actual authors, but he's allowed to do whatever he wants with *his* characters and wow, he makes them pretty messed up

Bsd isn't a romance series so I highly doubt Atsulucy would ever be canon; plus people really over exaggerate her and Atsushi's relationship. They're not even that close, Atsushi has extreme trust issues and I don't think Lucy has feelings for him, she's just grateful for him. Their relationship isn't "specially romantic" or anything, if Lucy was hypothetically replaced with Louisa, or Mark, or someone else from the Guild, Atsushi would still save them. He didn't save Lucy because their relationship was something special it was because she was technically innocent and Atsushi tries to save as many lives as he can. I just really think Atsulucy from like, a romantic pov, has very little development. Idk why people actually ship it, saying "it's cute" isn't really grounds for a relationship (I am not judging ofc, people can have their own opinions and I'll let them be I'm just saying imo Atsulucy is pretty darn nonsensical)

And there are lots of fandoms where a ship is canon and people still ship other ships. Let's take Naruto for example (spoilers for Naruto), Sasuke and Sakura end up getting married but the majority of Naruto fans do *not* ship Sasusaku

I think if Atsulucy or a different ship than Sskk became canon, it would be perfectly fine to still ship Sskk, it's the most popular ship for both Atsushi and Akutagawa so I doubt people would just abandon it for the canon ship

If Atsulucy became canon I wouldn't start shipping Atsulucy nor would I stop shipping Sskk, Sskk is dear to my heart and I'm very devoted to the relationship and dynamic they have (also on regards to Asagiri hypothetically stating that he doesn't want his fans to ship Shin Soukoku, I reallyyy doubt that. I'm 99% sure Sskk was originally supposed to be canon, plus Asagiri would never say anything like that to his fans, it's just plain rude. And nor do I think it would be "disrespect" to Asagiri for shipping Sskk, it's just a ship/opinion, there's nothing wrong with that. People shouldn't have to change their minds about a ship just because the creator made some other ship canon)

But that's just my opinion lol

If anything, it fits them double now, due to chapter 121.5, and it would *so* be from Atsushi's pov after Akutagawa died in their fight against Fukuchi, but it could also be from Akutagawa's pov

Just the whole entire song is so similar to them. The pain, the loss, the heartbreak. Everything Atsushi regrets, everything that haunts him about Akutagawa's death. All his hopes that Akutagawa could come back (thankfully he did but then l m a o Atsushi had to go and die •-•)

Sskk makes me unwell I love them so much 😔 anyways I was just obsessing over this song and realized it fit sskk to a painful degree lmao 

christmas headcanon is just atsushi makes a big deal of christmas santa claus etc for kyouka; kyouka doesnt believe in santa claus but pretends to for atsushi;; atsushi also doesn't believe in santa claus but pretends to for kyouka

ranpo knows whats going on but he thinks this is fun; and atsushi going all out means more treats for him

dazai isnt sure if atsushi believes but also doesnt wanna be the asshole to ruin it for him, so he pretends for atsushi's sake; atsushi is now lying about santa claus more becuz he thinks dazai believes in him too

kunikida doesnt think atsushi believes in santa claus but dazai seems unsure so he starts doubting himself; atsushi is now keeping up the lie becuz three ppl in his life apparently believe in santa claus

he gets breaks with yosano who also knows whats going but thinks this is all very funny

junichiro also knows atsushi is pretending about santa claus but he thinks its only for kyouka; somehow his convo with atsushi leads to everyone thinking santa claus is coming to visit

fukuzawa (kunikidazai convince him), the cafe owner (kyouka and lucy convince him), and hirotsu (atsushi asks akutagawa if he has a santa claus and akutagawa confusedly googles that/asks higuchi to google it and show him the screen, figures out its some old guy, asks hirotsu to go to the ada, becuz he too is an old guy) end up all dressed as santa claus at the ada together

kenji walks in and asks if theyre having a christmas party

atsushi panics

naomi lies and says theyre having a spot the real santa competition

kenji asks what a santa is

yosano cant hold it in anymore; she just bursts into laughter

no one in the ada believes in santa claus

I'm rereading bungou stray dogs, and I noticed that when Dazai shoves Atsushi into Sugimoto, Atsushi accesses the tiger just enough to stabilize himself and pin Sugimoto to the ground. And he does so in a specific stance, one knee braced, one hand pinning Sugimoto's hands behind him.

His resolved pout, firm grip, and poised stance are very much unlike how he confronted Tanizaki during his entrance exam or how he reacted to Higuchi when she emptied a clip into Naomi.

But, I did recall another instance where Atsushi similarly pivoted into seemingly confident resolve— when he tried to shoot Akutagawa shortly after Akutagawa arrived on scene. He seemingly dives Akutagawa, only to grab the gun near Akutagawa's feet to shoot him. This is silly; Atsushi's tiger is most adept in close quarters, and Akutagawa has already shown that Rashoumon is a range weapon.

But, Atsushi hasn't yet learned to tap into his tiger's strengths, nor does he know how to fight— which means he doesn't know how to evaluate how Akutagawa is fighting either. So, he doesn't clock that Akutagawa is maintaining physical distance, that Rashoumon extends out, that Akutagawa is frail and coughing. Instead, he snatches a weapon, launches himself at a distance from Akutagawa because he's scared to stay too close, and shoots him.

And, despite not knowing how to fight, clearly having little clue as to how to approach Akutagawa— Atsushi has a resolved pout, a firm grip, a poised stance.

Atsushi has never shot a gun before, and each time we've seen him encounter a situation in which he's felt uncertain, he's fallen apart. Even when he's brave (like covering the "bomb" with his own body during his entrance exam), he trembles and screws his eyes tight or stares, frozen. What made him even think to go for the gun, having never shot one, and whose expression is on his face, if not his own?

Like, sure, in the moment before he acted he'd remembered Kunikida telling him he was part of the Agency, and to not besmirch their good name, but that explains why he became brave, not why he went for the gun, or looked so sure doing so— oh, wait!

I do recognize that resolved pout, firm grip, and poised stance, actually. From earlier in the same volume.

And, regarding the Sugimoto pin— Dazai knows that Atsushi will be fine, that he's built to grapple, and that he can regenerate if shot. It made sense to throw Atsushi, a tank, at Sugimoto because even though Atsushi doesn't know how to fight and is a bit of a coward, he can take damage as well as he deals it.

But Atsushi doesn't take the damage— not like he does later, when he learns to fight to his strengths. Instead, he accesses his tiger, not to take the hit or use his speed to escape, but to push Sugimoto into a pin that looks too polished for someone who's never pinned anyone before. But he has seen someone be pinned, and he's been pinned too. Quite recently, even.

Each time, one handedly. And so, when he's thrown into Sugimoto—

His expression isn't his own because he's not protecting himself— he's protecting others, and he can't rely on himself to do that yet. He's too weak, too cowardly, and too uncertain of how to be someone in the context of others yet.

That's where his tiger becomes useless. Atsushi's tiger is raw, single-minded force. Its sole preogative, the sole reason it exists, is to keep Atsushi alive. And it's kept Atsushi alive by barreling him forward, negating what would kill Atsushi so that he can tear forward no matter what comes for him. His tiger is starving, enormous, and seemingly indomitable because it's carved from Atsushi's basest desire to live.

But where the tiger keeps him alive, it doesn't make him brave or steadfast or purposeful. And it's certainly not something that knows how to protect other people. Because a desire to live is not the same as the will to live or a reason to live.

And before Atsushi could articulate a reason, before he could recognize that he could exert will over the tiger, he relied on Kunikida's instead.

Kunikida knows better than most that relying on one's desires (such as his desire for a good and ideal world) can be manipulated and countered. Fyodor attempted to do so during the Cannibalism arc, Jouno during the Hunting Dogs arc. But as Ranpo said, Kunikida is the noblest, strongest member of the Agency. It's evident when instead of choking on the perversion of his own intentions, he continues to act, to save the next person if he couldn't save the last. That's not raw or instinctual. It's discipline, motivation, and will.

This is why he's their heart, their wrangler, their compass, their sincerity, and the template for what they should do when they're overwhelmed by who they are or who they could become. Because good is not who you are, it's what you do.
