What is your overall opinion on the White Lotus and their involvement in the war?
It felt weird that Iroh was the Grand Lotus when he wasn’t opposed to helping Zuko bring down the Avatar for the whole first season. He actively helps Zuko attack Aang and the group. Even if he was a member, it’s weird that he’s their leader, you know?
I know a lot of people feel like the White Lotus didn’t do enough to help end the war. In reality, I don’t think that’s necessarily true. We don’t see what they’re doing behind the scenes. The Earth Kingdom is a big place. For all we know, they were actively doing their parts in ways we just didn’t see because we were following the Gaang.
Iroh’s deep connection is the only thing that feels odd. If anything, the best I can surmise is that he once was a member but hadn’t been involved for a long time. The question is when? Clearly not before the siege at Ba Sing Se where he starved civilians and laughed about burning their homes to the ground, and not while he was the presumed heir to the throne.
Perhaps after Lu Ten’s death, when Iroh supposedly explored the spirit world and studied other cultures? Maybe all that was part of his involvement with The White Lotus?
If so, why did he go back home just to be depressed and too disempowered to even protect his nephew? Perhaps he became discouraged when his journey didn’t bring him to Lu Ten’s spirit and he gave up and returned home?
In general, I think The White Lotus are fascinating, and it’s a shame that LOK took so much of the mystery out of them.
I can’t help but notice that there were no female masters. Seems like something of a “boy’s club”. Even then though, I wonder if there could be female-based matriarchal off-shoots. The IRL historical White Lotus Society sure had their fair share!
Maybe Yagoda, the Herbalist, Ming, and Aunt Wu are all members.
I should make a collection on AO3 entitled “Zuko gets adopted by increasingly implausible parental figures.” First there’s the sensible options: Iroh, Hakoda, Piandao, the crew of his season 1 ship, a “nice Earth Kingdom family”. Then the out-there ones: the Yuyan Archers, the Herbalist from “The Blue Spirit”, June the bounty hunter, Bato, Jet, pirates. Then we dive into the ridiculous: the Herbalist’s **cat** from “The Blue Spirit”, the dragons from “The Firebending Masters”, literal serial killer Hama, and, of course, himself from the future
in a galaxy, even more far away

He can disney princess bond with animals. He's an orphan. He jokes about someone being dead less than 5 minutes after they die. He crawls around in vents. He lived with turtle people for a decade. He will fuck you up with or without a weapon. He is the goofiest man alive. He once made someone walk off a cliff.

I wish they did more with Tai Lung and Tigeress' indirect sibling relationship in Kung Fu Panda.
Tai Lung's entitlement wasn't born out of pure ambition and arrogance. It was born from wanting to make his father proud by following the dream Shifu had for him.
Tigress was Shifu's second chance. He was emotionally distant and strict with her because he blamed Tai Lung's rampage on him being spoiled by too much love and support. The real problem was raising him for a specific, highly prestigious role that only one person can fill and not preparing him for anything else.
Then when Master Oogway said that Tai Lung wasn't worthy Shifu didn't try to convince his master of his son's talent and potential. He didn't reassure him that he wasn't a disappointment and redirect him towards other goals. He just... silently went with it without thinking about what was behind Tai Lung's anger.
Does Tigress resent Tai Lung for getting raised by a far more fatherly version of her dad and ending up as a villain anyways? Does she blame Shifu's awful parenting on the brother she never met? Does she worry about turning out like him?
At the very least she despises him for hurting her dad.
And what does Tai Lung think of Shifu's new kid? Does he resent her for being his replacement? Is he jealous that she became part of the Fearsome Five while he (in his mind) never amounted to anything? Does he ever wonder what it'd be like to have a sister (in more than name?) Would Shifu's heavy expectations be less crushing with a sibling to share them with?
I wish their parallels, along with the potential parallels between their sibling relationship and Tigeress' relationship with Poe, got a chance to be explored.

No prompts! Just a theme: Tales of the Spectres.
Alllll the backstories! Inspired by the Star Wars animated Tales… series, our theme will focus on the Spectres’ lives before they became a crew, a team, and, in some ways, a family.
Each day of the event will feature works about the day’s Spectre:

I like to think this is how Kanan would find out Ezra’s leg is a prosthetic in the first place. Also Ezra would not be above using it to enact the element of surprise against anyone who’s naive enough to think they’ve confiscated all his weapons.
