On this New Years, I really want to thank every non-Jewish ally who has stood up for us ever since October 7.
Every non-Jew who has posted in support of Jews on your blog, a comment in the replies of our posts, or even just a like. Every tiny gesture matters, because even the tiniest shows of support for us can get you a lot of backlash, and I know it has. You’ve gone out of your way to help us when you don’t have to, during a time when it’s costing you the most and when the whole world is vilifying you for it.
We will never forget who abandoned and betrayed us since October 7. But we will never forget who stepped up for us either; who protected us, who argued on our behalf when we were too traumatized and exhausted to do it ourselves.
Years from now when everyone will claim that they totally stood in solidarity with the Jews when it wasn’t cool, you’ll know that you actually did. And so will I.
Happy new year!
it honestly baffles me that Transphobes or general anti-LGBT will be pro Israel anti-hamas... it makes no sense, and as glad as I am people support Israel it confuses me... all the people who hate me stand for a place I could be safe. yet all the people who should love me stand for a place we would be killed... we live in a mad world... it makes me feel so lost... I don't want transphobes to have my back in one way and then not in another... because I'm scared of transphobes for how they see me and treat me and how much trauma they've caused... but I'm also scared of my own community for playing into their hands and giving them a valid reason to think we're insane when before they had none... I don't know what to do... I feel like as soon as the world moves on from the war the transphobes will just turn on me as they always have... so I find it hard to accept they support Israel and hate Hamas...
I don't even know anymore
I've mentioned how the past month has been difficult for me and the family and because we had financial problems, I can barely afford medicine for my kitten🙁 The little I had left I used for some of my older kittens that were sick. The kitten has a flu and the medicine is very expensive and hard to find but my father knows one pet pharmacy from where he bought the medicine we had left. Please, if you have the possibility of donating to my KoFi page @ cloudi_skye I would appreciate it! Even if just half of the sum can be raised in a few days, it would be amazing and I’ll see what I can do about the rest.
I’m hoping that in a week I can buy her medicine...
This is Kokoro :) I named her like that because she has a heart shaped spot. Please, even if you can’t donate, sharing the post would be appreciated. Thank you!

Want to move to Japan? Me too! Lately I’ve seen a lot of Instagram pages dedicated to showing off cheap homes in Japan. These pages usually just link back to a Japanese real estate website, so I’d like to list some handy vocabulary to help you navigate the sites and find some houses on your own!
Note: This post was made with intermediate level Japanese learners in mind. It's meant to be a vocabulary list with visual examples, not an all-inclusive house buying guide. For general website navigation, I’d recommend the RikaiChan / RikaiKun extensions which will display a translation of each word you mouse over.
I really like SUUMO, so that will be the site I use for the example pictures. But any website will have more or less the same words!
[ 2 ] Search 探す(さがす):Search / Find This word will come up a lot! The search function may also appear as... Property Search
Suumo has a nifty map on the front page. If you know the region you'd like to search in, you can choose it here.
[ 5 ] House Terminology If you've taken a Japanese class, you may have learned that the Japanese word for house is 家 or いえ. Unfortunately, this short and simple word isn't used much on real estate websites. The following terms are typically used instead.
Detached Building A standalone house, as opposed to an apartment or condo.
New Buildings
中古(ちゅうこ)一戸建て:Old Buildings 中古 can mean "old", "used", or “secondhand”, none of which sound ideal, but all it means is that the house that has been lived in previously. This is where you find the cheap ones!
Once you have the region and building type selected, you’ll see a new map you can use to select the prefecture. I'll highlight a few key search methods on this screen.
[ 1 ] Search by Area(エリア)
Click on a prefecture to bring up a checklist of cities and districts. At the bottom of the list, you'll see two options: refining the search further or proceeding with the checked options.
Narrow by town names of checked cities/wards/districts"
Search with these conditions"
Condition / Term
The orange number shows how many total properties were found with the checked selections. Click the blue search button if you want to jump straight to the houses without refining the search.
[ 2 ] Search by Railway(沿線)or Station(駅)
Click on a prefecture to bring up a checklist of railways. At the bottom of the list, you'll see two options: refining the search further or proceeding with the checked options.
Narrow by stations of checked railways"
Search with these conditions"
Condition / Term
Once again, the orange number shows how many total properties were found with the checked selections. Click the blue search button if you want to jump straight to the houses without refining the search.
[ 3 ] Search by Map(地図、ちず) Clicking here will open up a much more detailed map that you can scroll through! Definitely the easiest option, which is why I put it last. :)
Hopefully you found some of these words useful.
I might do one more post related to houses, where I highlight vocabulary describing the houses themselves (instead of just how to search for them).
For now, here's the complete vocab list for ease of viewing:
