It’s one of the sickest acts of homophobia among other enormities to have Dean Winchester die a fighter. to never allow him safety and stability and relationships he forges himself without any shackles on his character. to never release him from the narrative. to trap him in the life like that forever. everything about that life I mean it Everything. to force him to be remembered only as a caretaker as a fighter as a sacrificial lamb as a pretty boy. let him be more. transform him. please take him. take Dean Winchester apart. explore every alternative he could’ve been. give him the aching satisfaction of exquisitely wrought love, of relieved tension, of friendships that have lasted and continue to last and none of the pain, of saying finally, finally I can have this. i don’t care how unrealistic. repair him. make it real.

if dean said "i want you" cas would have heard "like an object." if dean said "i love you" cas would have heard "like a brother." so dean says "i need you" and he means "i need you like i need air." and we know this because dean has been trained to never need anything from anyone. he isn't supposed to need anyone. but cas does not know this and instead he hears "i need you like i need a gun."

How long until he discards me again. and dean is thinking How long will this last. How long until he realizes he doesn’t need me like I need him. How long until he leaves me again.

god i love the motel scene in on the head of a pin where uriel and cas come to take dean away to torture alastair. it is such a good early destiel scene. dean is so pissed and cas is just standing over in the corner all “dean we know this is difficult to understand” while uriel is saying “and we dont care!” cas looks straight ahead like fuck i messed up again AND THEN the way that dean looks at cas and the way that cas refuses to look back at him. and then when he finally does he looks so conflicted! and then dean just looks only at cas and pleads with him “you cant ask me to do this cas—not this” and cas looks like he wants to give in he wants to give dean whatever he wants but he’s still fighting it! still trying to be the good soldier he thinks he is. this episode is literally such a turning point for cas’s character. he hasn’t quite reached the point of no return yet but this is the episode where he finally takes a big step in that direction
