From sketch to finished illustration, gouache and watercolour on gesso primed paper.
Following: more ramblings on the technique and inspiration
I loved the process, and clear gesso one of the best thing to ever happen to artists because sketching on gessoed surfaces is a pain in the ass.
Also this way I didnt have to worry about over working the paper. That in fact is NOT watercolour paper.
Subject-wise I have been toying with re-starting my struggle with the Russian language and in my Tumblr rotted brain I thought that it would be fun to read some fics in Russian with help from the ever loving Google translate. Then I remembered reading when I was like 11-13 some (way too adult for my age probably) great and creepy urban fantasy set in Moscow.
Long story short I then stumbled on this amazing fic for the ночной дозор fandom, and my inner preteen was so delighted I had to paint something. So here is one of my faves, an old schemer of a Light Magician, part time steppe dweller and simp for his way-cooler partner: the Most Bright Gesar just before he met Olga.
I’m absolutely obsessed with the reddit side of the Tolkien fandom, in particular, this discussion regarding how Sauron fits the ring on his finger, as well as penal compensation a la Lord Farqaud style
"Concerning the Three Rings Sauron could learn nothing from Celebrimbor; and he had him put to death. But he guessed the truth, that the Three had been committed to Elvish guardians: and that must mean to Galadriel and Gil-galad.
In black anger he turned back to battle; and bearing as a banner Celebrimbor's body hung upon a pole, shot through with Orc-arrows, he turned upon the forces of Elrond."
The death of Celebrimbor (my love for doomed Noldor is resurfacing in strength)

Mindless ASOIAF doodles. 15yo sadboy Rhaegar, Aerys Targaryen wandering the halls in nightclothes because evil prophetic dreams tm are driving him insane (literally), a very uninpressed 15yo Arthur Dayne as a squire (sometimes I headcanon him as Barristan s squire. If only to make so that sadboy R. had a friend before 20). I think I'll do some fun illustration with these three as soon as I choose the definitive design.
I am learning to use Krita on my Android tablet, and since I am reading John Sugden's biography of a certain one-eyed, one-armed Royal Navy Vice-Admiral, I felt like a quick portrait of Horatio Nelson could be a fun way to start.
If anyone has advice on how to use krita please tell me. You'd make me quite happy, because right now I have no idea of what I am doing.

Nero and Seneca, by Eduardo Barrón (1904)
I love this statue so much because it really captures the fact that Nero is just a grumpy teen going through a phase and Seneca is desperately trying to teach him something so he doesn't get exiled again
I offered to be a dog walker as a public service because it’s fucking cold here right now and there’s a lot of elderly people with dogs but can I just say I expected my first dog to be “Lulu the Arthritic Poodle” and not fucking Ungoliant.
E altri grandi classici del liceo. Mi manca studiare latino? Sì. E non mi vergogno a ammetterlo 😂
Italian med student with an obsession for painting. Also a mythology and history nerd. Give me a book and I'll give you my heart.
