Fascinating insights about Floralia and Flora’s cult.

The Floralia Is A Roman Festival Honoring Flora, The Goddess Of Spring, Flower Gardens, And Crops. It

The Floralia is a Roman festival honoring Flora, the goddess of spring, flower gardens, and crops. It was held each year from April 27th or 28th to May 3rd. She is married to Favonius, the God of the West Wind. Flora was one of the most important goddesses in the Roman pantheon, one of only 15 deities to have a cult administered by a state priesthood consisting of a married couple, who were appointed for life.

The celebration of the Floralia included theatrical performances, competitive games, and a sacrifice to Flora, presumably at her temple on the lower slope of the Aventine Hill near the Circus Maximus.

About the base image:

Flora, or the Primavera of Stabaie; 1st century CE fresco from Stabaie, Italy. Collection of the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli via Wikimedia Commons (X). Image license: Public Domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer and in the United States - published anywhere (or registered with the U.S. Copyright Office) before 1926.

Manipulation: I 'healed' some of the fresco's more obvious flaws and added the floral border.

Bad Ancient Rome Joke

Lissa Dragomir: So what do Mark Antony, Julius Caesar, and Cleopatra have in common?

Rose Hathaway: Threesome!

Lissa Dragomir: Can you honestly not take ANYTHING seriously?!

Rose Hathaway: It wouldn’t be as fun if I did.

This is very accurate.

assuming bi youth only experience marginalization and oppression when they’re in same gender relationships makes as much sense as assuming that gay people only experience marginalization and oppression when they’re in a relationship

it doesn’t

Weird Cross-over Crack Ship

So am I the only one who thinks Fenris and Jessica Jones would be a good couple? They’d get drunk without judging each other for it, although Fenris would attempt to convert her to drinking more champagne. Jessica bluntly comments that Danarius’ abuse of Fenris wasn’t his fault, and actually talks about her Kilgrave experiences.

It would be kind of sweet for two broken people to support each other and find love.

Cool Romanticism Facts

-Lord Byron was the inspiration for his doctor Polidori’s vampire, Lord Ruthven. He’s also a national hero in Greece, because he died fighting in their War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire.

-Mary Shelley is best known for Frankenstein and editing her husband’s work. However, she wrote several other novels. She was bisexual, and had a relationship with Jane Williams, which ended badly.

-Claire Clairemont in addition to having an illegitimate child by Byron, was fluent in five languages, including French. She outlived the majority of Byron and Shelley’s social circle.

-Percy Shelley was expelled from Oxford for his atheism, and died in a shipwreck. The death of Claire Clairemont’s illegitimate daughter by Byron haunted him.

What NOT to Do

*after Kreia kills the Jedi masters*

The Exile: But WHY?!

Kreia: You were there. Vrook wanted to kill you, so I killed him, then everyone saw me kill Vrook so I killed everyone. You must end the entire order to prevent revenge killings. That's Jedi Killing 101.

Atton: Uh, I taught that class at the Korriban Academy and we never covered anything this fucked up.

I'm torn between agreeing with Atton, and laughing while picturing him as an actual teacher.

Freedom of Religion Means ALL Religions Not Just Christian Sects!

I respect Christian Dominionists’ right......to shut the fuck up about how we fallen away from being a “Christian nation”. The only reason we have “Under God” in our pledge was to show we were different from those “Godless communists”. Y’all need to re-read the First Amendment, which says that Congress shall not favor a particular religion over another.

DNI: Christian apologists.
