We have seen more of Joe Alwyn since the breakup than we have during the 6 year relationship combined.

im sure lots of people will listen to TTPD and discount it because she talks about matty in it (and ofc people have their valid issues with him, but im not gonna go into that), but the whole lead up to the album has been βweβre investigating,β and imo a lot of us took that as her saying βweβre investigating why my relationship endedβ whereas the album is actually about βweβre investigating this caricature of a girl who went through something life-changing, and she has apparently gone crazyβ and sheβs basically done a public autopsy of herself; something that the media/fans/public have done since the beginning, but this time around she was like βiβll do it to myself.β
hence, the album aesthetic feels so sterile too imo. sheβs trying to distance herself from the subject but!!!!!! she is the subject. and in conclusion, i think what sheβs really putting down is βthe summary of the investigation of this girl is that she went insane because of what happened to her, but itβs hopefully gonna be okayβ
sidenote: i think what we need to take away from the album is toβ¦ let her liveβ¦
I think my desire to gatekeep Speak Now from the general public stems from how vulnerable of an album it is. It came at a time when there were so many expectations on her after Fearless did so well and the first seeds of doubt about her as an artist and songwriter started to sprout. The decision to write it completely independently and not hold anything back was so gutsy of her and that sentiment is echoed on the album.
