You knew, from the very first moment, that getting close to him would be like dancing on the edge of a knife, but you couldn't resist. His every glance was a challenge, one that dared you to crack the mystery he had carefully constructed around himself. It felt like the two of you were bound by invisible threads, each tug bringing you closer, entwining your fates in ways neither of you could escape.

But dear lord, there was probably nothing in this world—this cruel, cold world—that could ever rip the two of you apart. And the both of you knew; you just knew you both wouldn‘t want it in any other way.

Dazai, who swore to himself to never let anybody get close to him again, let himself fall for you. He couldn‘t help it, and it happened so quickly too. He was never one who believed in love at first sight, but reality quickly slapped the truth in his face. One look, one exchange of greetings, and that was all it took for him to fall. He was only human after all.

The said man with the beige trenchcoat was slacking off from work once again, hiding from his elder co-worker and partner, Kunikida. Poor him doesn‘t get a break from the sly brunette, having to scream out his lungs while searching for him. You decided to pay no mind to it since you were having your break and all.

Beside you sat the smartest and most childish detective while swallowing a whole strawberry-flavored donut before practically forcing a package of candies down his throat. After he was done, he whined out while shaking the now-empty package of candy.

“Kunikida-kuuun, I‘m out of snacks!“ He exclaimed loudly as a pout stretched across his lips.

“I‘m currently behind schedule, Ranpo-san, but I will make sure to bring you a few snacks as soon as possible.“ Kunikida reassured the black-haired man while pacing around the agency.

You looked up from the book you were reading, putting it aside after making sure you would remember what page you were on before speaking up.

“You still haven‘t found him? He could be down the cafe or hiding at the restroom; he may be even bothering Atsushi.“ You trailed off after seeing the smoke that was slowly but surely steaming out of the blondes ears.

“I searched everywhere in this whole building, but he‘s nowhere to be found! I bet that sorry-waste of bandages is somewhere outside trying to kill himself again instead of doing his job! Leaving the paperwork undone and forcing me to fill them out—“

You decided not to interfere in his rambling; he wasn‘t talking to you any longer about it anyway. You let out a small sigh at Kunikida‘s rambling and complaining, who‘s clearly overworking himself, before turning to Ranpo instead.

"Ranpo, could you tell me where he‘s hiding? Maybe he‘ll do at least some paperwork of what he should‘ve finished if we find him before break is over.“

You knew that wouldn‘t be the case; Dazai is a lazy man after all. He would probably continue his teasing from earlier, trying to rile Kunikida up even more than he already is, just to see him lose his patience and the chance of making him break the 247 pen of his. He would never do any paperwork, under almost no circumstances.

“What‘s in for me?“ “The sooner we find him, the sooner you get your snacks from Kunikida-kun.“

You were prepared for his question. Ranpo can get pretty petty at times after all. No answers for no offer. It‘s like an exchange for answers.

“Can I get the donuts from that cafe across the street? The special ones with small chocolate cookies on them?“ “With sprinkles and glaze.“

Ranpo‘s eyes lit up at your words, like a child when having his first sweet. It was as if a whole universe was created by those few simple words, yet he reacted to them as if you put a spell on him and hypnotized the detective.

“He‘s hiding in that library, 2 streets away from here. Also, I want at least 12 donuts.“

“You‘ll get as much as you want, Ranpo. Just make sure to ask Kunikida.“ You responded before standing up from your chair, leaving the office before going down the dark wooden stairs.

Once you made it out of the building, you were met by a fresh breeze hitting your skin and fluttering through your hair as a couple of leaves followed the wind. It was a quite windy day, but you didn‘t mind it too much. In your eyes, every kind of weather is beautiful in its own way.

Sunny weather was simply warm, as if embracing you, yet sometimes too tightly. And stormy weather was simply Mother Nature having to let out her feelings, needing to cool off. God bless Mother Nature; she‘s a single woman too.

The streets were not too loud. People were minding their own business; some were shopping, some were on business trips, and others were just simply fooling around. Kids were running around, playing with each other while their parents were trying to somehow get them home.

You smiled at the sight.

’Seems like they're having fun,‘ you thought as you made your way to the library Ranpo told you of. You also couldn‘t help but wonder why Dazai disappeared like that, yet you were not going to comment on it. He‘s his own person, and he may do as he pleases. Plus, there was probably a good reason why he had left like that.

As you stood before the library, you couldn‘t help but think that it was quite pretty and neat. The roof was slightly sloped, with dark, weathered shingles that add a touch of character. Ivy vines gracefully climbed up one side of the building, adding a touch of greenery and blending the library with the surrounding nature.

A small stone pathway leads up to the entrance, flanked by neatly trimmed bushes and colorful flower beds. There was a wooden bench under a nearby tree, perfect for readers who want to enjoy their books outside. The whole scene exudes a sense of peace and warmth, making it a beloved spot in the neighborhood.

As you step into the cozy library, a gentle, comforting scent immediately greets you, wrapping around you like a soft blanket. The air was filled with the rich aroma of aged paper and well-worn leather, mingling with a hint of polished wood from the shelves. There was a faint trace of vanilla, likely from the old books or perhaps a subtle diffuser in the corner, adding a touch of warmth to the atmosphere.

The aura inside the library was one of serene tranquility. Soft, ambient lighting casts a warm, golden glow, creating a sense of intimacy and calm. The spaces between the bookshelves are just wide enough to feel cozy, yet not cramped, inviting you to explore at your leisure. The quiet rustle of pages being turned is the only sound, occasionally accompanied by the soft footsteps of a fellow reader.

Everything about the library felt welcoming and unhurried. The deep armchairs and plush rugs invited you to settle in, encouraging you to lose yourself in a book for hours. The atmosphere was both comforting and inspiring, making it a perfect retreat from the outside world—a place where time seems to slow down, allowing you to savor each moment.

You quickly remembered why you were here in the first place and silently walked through the library while holding out an eye for Dazai.

As you moved between the aisles, there's a sense of quiet anticipation, like each shelf held a treasure waiting to be uncovered. The soft, muffled sound of your footsteps on the carpet adds to the sense of intimacy, making you feel like you're the only one there, even if others were quietly browsing nearby.

The air felt cool and still, with the faintest rustle of pages or the occasional soft whisper breaking the silence. The rows of books seem endless, each one a portal to a different world, and as you ran your fingers along the spines, you could almost feel the stories contained within them.

And just then, you finally spotted him. The guy in beige trenchcoat was sitting on a cozy brown sofa, reading a book for himself as if trying to mesmerize every word that was printed on its pages. You approached him calmly, making sure not to disturb him as you took a seat beside him, occasionally glancing at the book he was reading.

The so said man looked up from his book, his chocolate eyes staring into yours, as if trying to find out every little secret of yours.

“Hey. Did you need something?“ he asks while holding his book in those almost-pale hands. “Are you alright? You disappeared quite suddenly back there. Kunikida was searching for you everywhere.“

“Hm? Oh, yeah, I‘m fine. Just lost in a good book is all,“ he said before looking back at the book he was holding. “Want to hear something? I could read a bit out of the book for us. I‘m sure Mister Sticker for Rules can wait a bit.“

His suggestion made you smile a bit; you wanted to know what he was reading. “Sure, why not?“ you responded, not knowing what was approaching you.

Dazai chuckled and made a playful ‘preparation‘ before finally starting to read. “The real things are apt to be deviant. A bit relatable, isn‘t it?“

You saw it in his eyes. The emotions swirling behind that mask of his. The bittersweet smile he has on his face just didn‘t quite reach his eyes. All of his shields seemed to crumble down in times like this. In times when he‘s being like this. His brown hair seemed darker than usual, covering one of his eyes a bit.

Ah. That‘s right. The Port Mafia, wasn‘t it? That‘s where he was practically raised, surrounded by irresponsible adults and people. He‘s not a bad guy, he was just surrounded by bad people, telling him what to do.

You reached out for his bangs and tucked them behind his ear, making him glance over at you for a second before smiling. “Feel free to tell me to shut up at any time, dear. I wouldn’t want to fill your mind with my crazy thoughts~“ he said playfully, yet his eyes were showing something else.

“Hm? Oh, yeah, I‘m fine. Just lost in a good book is all,“ he said before looking back at the book he was holding. “Want to hear something? I could read a bit out of the book for us. I‘m sure Mister Sticker for Rules can wait a bit.“

I wouldn’t want to fill your mind with my crazy thoughts and psychological bullshit,“ he said playfully, yet his eyes were showing something else.

"No, no, I want to hear more. Can you continue?“ you asked. “You want to hear more? Did someone put a spell on you or something? And here I thought I was the crazy one,“ he responded, a little surprised that you wanted to hear more.

“Here‘s another quote. This I want to believe implicitly: Man was born for love and revolution. Beautiful, right? Now I have neither happiness nor unhappiness. Everything passes.“

“Was the second one also from the book?“ you asked, a bit curious since it seemed as if he was…somewhere else. As if trapped in his mind. “Oh, no, no. That was—that was just me,“ he answered, trying to play it down with a smile.

“I‘ve read those books once too. Do you like the author?“

“Well, not exactly. I just—I guess some can say that I like his books. They‘re…relatable.“

Relatable huh? You‘ve read those books before, and you also know who the author is. You find their books amazing. They were like a bunch of puzzles to solve, each one driving you into another corner. Their books were amazing, deep, and full of secrets, but you would never want anybody to ever relate to them. You wouldn‘t even wish your worst enemy something like this.

“You‘re staring at me. You‘ve got something to say. I mean, I cannot blame you; nobody can resist this man's charms. I am quite the sight, ain‘t I? I don‘t blame you for staring at me; it would be hard not to.“

There he goes, being all playful and teasing again. It was just an act. All just masks, covering the huge secret behind them. The problems and loneliness behind them. Why wouldn’t he drop it? Why wouldn’t he just speak his mind? Your mind felt like it was weighing bricks just thinking about his thoughts.

“What‘s going on in that beautiful mind of yours? C‘mon, tell me your secrets, or do you just want to stare at me?" he asked.

“I want you to speak your mind. Tell me your thoughts. I want to know what you‘re thinking. If you don‘t feel comfortable-“

“It‘s quiet. At least for now,“ he said before sighing. “And that‘s rare. My mind goes completely quiet whenever I’m around you. It‘s never quiet. It never has been before. My mind is also the only place I‘m comfortable. But around you, every place is comfortable.“

This surprised you a bit. Dazai Osamu just spoke his thoughts freely. It was genuine. It was the truth. Not a lie, not another act, no mask hiding his expressions. And of course, he noticed that too. Maybe a bit too late, but he realized. He‘s a genius, after all.

“Wow, how did you manage to do that? I just spoke my mind; that‘s very out of character for me…But that aside, what are you thinking? You still didn’t tell me, you know? If you‘re worried about me, don‘t be. Just give me a couple of moments, and by the next time you see me, I‘ll be back to normal. There‘s no need to be concerned. I‘m sure we can pull a prank on Kunikida sooner or later.

“Let‘s go somewhere. I want to show you something,“ you said before you stood up and lent him a hand. He looked… a bit curious, to say the least.

"Why do you want to take me out on a date? Or are you planning on keeping me all locked up in your basement~? Is that it~? Are you planning on kidnapping me, my love~?“ he teased before taking your hand and standing up. He intertwined your hand with his and raised your hand to slightly kiss the backside of your palm before staring back at you.

“Well then, lead the way, my dear.“

⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘

As the car speeds along, the wind seems to race beside you, howling softly as it pushes against the vehicle. The windows rattled slightly, and the sound of the wind became a constant companion, adding a layer of atmosphere to your thoughts. There was a raw energy in the air, making the world outside feel more untamed and wild.

When you passed by a cluster of trees, the wind rushed through them with a low, rushing sound, like the ocean in the distance. You watched as the leaves were torn from branches, twirling and spiraling in the air before being swept away. The landscape outside is both familiar and foreign, shaped by the relentless wind into something that feels both exciting and slightly unpredictable.

The radio of the car was slightly tuned out in your ears as you continued to look at the road before you. Dazai sat beside you in the passenger seat, staring out of the window. Your eyes softened at his expression. He looked so laid-back. His expression wasn‘t the wide fake smile like usual; it was peaceful. You smiled slightly before focusing your eyes back on the road.

A few minutes later, you parked the car, mentioning to Dazai that you were here and he could get out of the car.

“A remote hilltop, huh?“ Dazai asked quietly, as if talking to himself.

The sky was vast and open, with clouds moving quickly, pushed along by the same wind that tousled your hair and made your clothes flutter. The sun would break through in patches, casting fleeting, golden light across the landscape. The colors of the grass and distant hills seemed richer and more intense as the shadows danced and shifted with each passing cloud.

Wildflowers, in shades of purple and yellow, clung to the ground, bending under the force of the wind but never breaking. The entire hilltop had a wild, untamed feel to it, as if it belonged to another world entirely—a world where you could find peace just by sitting still and letting the wind carry everything away.

You felt small in the best possible way. The vastness of the landscape and the relentless movement of the wind reminded you that the world was much bigger than your troubles and that there was something profoundly healing in being part of nature's rhythm.

The hilltop had been a place of quiet strength, where the wind spoke of resilience and freedom. It was where you had gone to find solace, to breathe deeply, and to let the natural world cradle you in its enduring embrace.

You sat on the hill, surrounded by the beautiful sound of the wind ringing in your ears. The sound was ringing in your ears like a melody. You felt like the only person in the world, completely and only focused on the sounds nature was giving.

“You hear that?“ You spoke up after a few minutes of silence. He slowly made his way to sit beside you, looking up into the sky while letting the wind blow through his slightly curly brown hair. Closing his eyes, he hummed, smiling as he did, before responding in a soft tone.

“Yeah, I can. And it‘s amazingly gorgeous.“

The both of you sat there for a couple of minutes in comfortable silence as the sun was setting, the clouds taking on the colors of orange and slight reddish tones.

“What exactly was the reason to bring me here? It wasn’t just because you wanted to show me this place, right?“ Dazai asked, opening his eyes to look at you. “I brought you here because I wanted to ask you something. And since we‘re supposed to keep quiet in the library, I brought you here. Why exactly is it that you keep a distance from others? Why do you feel the need to wear a mask and put on an act for them?“

In anyone’s eyes, it would‘ve been a simple question with a simple answer. But this is Dazai you were talking to. In your eyes, there could be thousands of meanings behind the words he‘s going to say. As a few more seconds of silence went by, you asked yourself: ‘Will he lie? Is he so quiet because he‘s deciding whether or not to lie to me? Will he or will he not take off his mask?‘

“I want to spend my time with people who don't look to be respected. But such good people won't want to spend their time with me,“ he began, the look in his eyes a little distant and distracted, like back then, as if he‘s somewhere else again. He sucked in a breath—a quite shaky one at that—before he continued talking.

“As long as I can make them laugh, it doesn’t matter how, I’ll be alright. If I succeed in that, the human beings probably won’t mind it too much if I remain outside their lives. The one thing I must avoid is becoming offensive in their eyes. I shall be nothing, the wind, the sky“

You froze for a couple of seconds. The puzzle behind his word was quite a big one, with many different meanings. If he makes people happy, how could they ever not mind him remaining outside their lives? Wouldn‘t they much rather have him in their lives when he makes them happy? Dazai always made you happy, no matter what, but would you actually not mind at all if he‘d been gone?

“I would mind,“ you responded honestly, leaning your head on his shoulder while the wind continues to blow through your hair.

“I would miss you, I wouldn’t want you to leave. Nobody would. You make the people around you happy. You gave Atsushi a job and more. Yes, you might have done a lot of cruel things in the past, but you‘ve changed for the better. You‘re no longer the Demon Prodigy you once were, you‘re not the same person you once were. You‘re the agency‘s guardian angel, if you believe it or not. I don‘t know what‘s going on in that head of yours, but trust me when I say we want you by our side. For as long as possible.“

Dazai stared at you for a couple of seconds with wide eyes. He was…touched by your words, to say the least. Nobody ever said that to him, besides maybe Atsushi. Nobody ever told him that he was important or that he was something besides the cruel demon prodigy he once was. Hearing this was…refreshing and it certainly took off the weight on his shoulders that he has been carrying for so long. It also made his heart beat a little faster to hear it from you.

“Thank you, sparrow. I don‘t get to hear that often… I hope you know how much this means to me and how much you matter to me.“ He finally spoke, leaning his head on yours, tenderly holding your hand in his before kissing the back of your palm.

After only a few minutes, you felt the rain trickling down from the sky. A smile grazed your lips, and you couldn’t stop the chuckle that escaped your lips. Even though the rain can be annoying, it felt oddly amazing in this moment.

You quickly stood up from your spot, slightly bumping your head against Dazai‘s as you did, making him whine. "Aw, come onnnn~ Don‘t tell me you decided to run away from me just now~“

You almost snorted at his comment before turning on the radio in your car, amused by his whining.

‘Just a steeltown couple on a Saturday night, looking for the fight of their lives~‘

“Excuse me for making your dream come true~ Didn’t you want to dance with me? If I remember correctly, you were the one whining last week when I declined your offer to dance with me~“

Dazai‘s eyes immediately lit up with excitement, and he stood up quickly before holding out his hand. “May I have the pleasure of a dance with you~?“ he smirked. “Of course~ who would I be to decline such a generous offer~?“ you replied playfully, a glint of mischief in your eyes. He probably wasn’t the best influence…but he‘s yours.

‘Locking rhythms to the beat of their hearts, changing movements into lights~‘

You grabbed each other's hands and twirled faster and faster, the motion making you dizzy with joy. The coldness of the rain didn’t matter; it was refreshing, invigorating, as if the rain were washing away every care and every worry. You laughed so hard it hurt, your sides aching and your breath coming in gasps as you struggled to stay upright, spinning and spinning until the world tilted and swirled with you.

‘They have danced into the danged zone, where the dancers become the dance‘

There was something magical about it, something pure. Dancing in the rain felt like reclaiming a piece of childhood—a time when getting wet wasn't an inconvenience but a delight. The rain made everything feel new, as if the two of you were the only people in the world who knew this secret—that sometimes, the best moments are the ones where you let go completely, without worrying about what comes next.

‘It can cut you like a knife, if the gift becomes the fire~‘

You caught sight of each other’s faces, your eyes meeting in a shared, unspoken understanding that this was a memory being etched into your souls. There was no need for words, no need to explain the overwhelming joy that welled up inside you both. The laughter came in waves, echoing through the rain-soaked hills and streets—a melody only you two could hear. It was the kind of laughter that bubbles up from the depths of your being—uncontrollable and pure, fueled by the exhilaration of the moment.

‘On a wire between will and what will be~“

At some point, you lifted your arms to the sky, feeling the rain fall harder now, the drops heavy and insistent, drumming against your skin like a thousand tiny heartbeats. You both stood there for a moment, letting the rain wash over you, heads thrown back, faces turned toward the stormy sky. The world seemed to hold its breath; the rain was the only sound and the only thing that mattered.

‘They‘re maniacs, maniacs on the floor~‘

Then, as if some invisible cue had been given, you began to move again, slower this time, your bodies swaying together in a gentle rhythm, the wild spinning replaced by a tender, almost reverent dance. You held each other close, feeling the warmth of your embrace despite the cold rain. It was as if the storm had softened, as if it had given you its blessing to create this perfect moment.

‘And they‘re dancing like they‘ve never danced before~‘

The rain had turned everything around you into a reflection, the world mirrored in the puddles beneath your feet. And in that reflection, you saw the two of you as you were—laughing, dancing, living in a moment that was fleeting, yet infinite in its beauty.

’They‘re maniacs, maniacs on the floor~‘

And as you looked into his eyes, both of you knew you were meant to be together. You were meant to be in each other's arms forever.

‘And they‘re dancing like they‘ve never danced before~‘

Through the comforting sound of the rain and the music, your lover questioned you in a hushed tone.

“Together?“

“Together.“

And it was the only thing that seemed right. The only thing that is meant to be. Always and forever.

Hi ,

My name is Shada, I’m 24 years old, a new nurse graduate from Gaza 🇵🇸, and I’m reaching out in the hope that you might take a moment to hear my story.

I gave birth to my baby boy, Adam , in the middle of this war. He is now 5 months old. We’ve lost everything—our home was destroyed, and my husband’s work as a water truck driver is gone. We have evacuated multiple times, and today we live in a crowded tent camp 🏕️, not knowing where we’ll go next.

On top of everything, Adam was born with clubfoot and needs urgent surgery 🏥 that cannot be done in Gaza—not now, not even before the war. He also needs special medical boots afterward.

We’re trying to raise funds to evacuate to safety and give our son a real chance at life.

If you’re able to donate 💌 or even just share our campaign 🔁, please know it would mean the world to me. I want to live, work, and raise my family in peace. I don’t want to lose my son or my husband.

Thank you so much for reading 🌿

@suppirtadamfil

With hope and gratitude,

Shada 🤍
