Something I like about Polytrix is that when you do the "girl and her guard dogs" thing, it works in all directions. Mira and Zoey passionately defending Rumi from Celine or anyone who makes her feel insecure about her patterns. Rumi and Mira standing up and mean mugging behind Zoey if anyone even thinks about making her feel like she's being weird or too much. Zoey and Rumi very pointedly interrupting and glaring at interviewers/press who try to pry into Mira's family situation.

zoey and mira have been trying to convince their best friend rumi to come to the bathhouse for a long while now.

it’s always a new excuse for her though.

“oh, i’m not feeling well.”

“ugh, i just got my period!”

“aw noo, i just took a bath a minute ago!”

it was like she had endless excuses. but it didn’t stop zoey and mira from going alone most the time,

“i really wish rumi would wanna join us.” zoey sighed as they walked into the familiar room coated in steam and essential oils floating in the air.

“aw, is my company not enjoyable for you anymore?” mira teased.

“hey! you know i didn’t mean it like that.” zoey laughed, pushing her shoulder playfully.

mira laughed softly, pulling her robe off her shoulders.

“she’s probably just nervous to be naked in front of us.”

“yeah but it’s us! she knows we wouldn’t judge her!” zoey said, also taking her robe off.

the girls stepped into the warm tub and laid their heads on the granite bath wall behind them.

they let out heavy sighs as if their bodies melted into the water.

“ahhh.. rumi is seriously missing out.” zoey sighed out.

mira hummed as her eyes rested closed.

“but like.. can i be honest for a second?” she started.

zoey doesn’t even open her eyes or turn her head, she had found herself so comfortable in her spot. she simply hummed.

“i kinda like it when it’s just us two. i mean, i’m dying to get rumi in here, she needs the relaxation. but i like coming here with just you.”

zoey hummed. “yeah.. i do too.”

mira suddenly thought of a funny memory she shared with zoey.

“do you remember.. that one time we weren’t paying attention and walked into the men’s bathhouse while taking off our robes?” she chuckled.

zoey gasped. “oh my god! that was so humiliating! there were like five guys in there!”

“you were already half naked! you were so excited to get in there, you forgot to look at the sign, you dummy.”

“uh- hey! you weren’t looking either. i think you even managed to flash one of those guys before you realized.” she chuckled.

mira laughed. “you’re probably right..”

zoey smirked and peeked at mira through one eye.

“lucky them.. but like, lucky me cause i see them basically on a daily.”

“yeah, lucky you.” mira said in a more flirty tone than she had intended.

they laughed softly before the relaxation made them more and more sleepier.

“you know.. i wouldn’t blame rumi for being insecure about her body. i feel that way sometimes too.” zoey admitted.

mira’s eyebrows creased in confusion as she gently lifts her head.

“seriously?”

“yeah.. well, i mean- don’t you? also?” she added quickly.

mira blinks. she gently moved a sweaty bang from her face before picking up her head fully to face zoey.

“i guess, yeah.. sometimes.”

zoey hears the water rippling and opened up her eyes completely. she sits up to face mira.

“i never talk about it cause i feel like it’s stupid most of the time. but when i was. a teenager, i never used to like how flat i was. i always told myself i looked gross and weird. and that’s why guys didn’t like me-“

“you are NOT gross and weird, mira! are you kidding? you’re the prettiest girl i know!” zoey sputtered out.

“and also teenage boys don’t know anything! they’re the stupid ones, all it takes is for a girl to be a c-cup for them to wanna pay attention!” she continued.

mira laughed softly at her sudden attitude change.

“okay.. thanks for that.”

“you’re welcome!” she said louder than she expected. it echoed off the walls, followed by their laughter afterwards.

they sighed heavily and laid their heads down again.

“i wasn’t so insecure about how i looked.. more of who i was, you know?” zoey said.

“it wasn’t always just being from two countries, it was also that i didn’t do.. anything!” she said.

mira snorted. “okay, uhh.. you lost me.”

“like.. i didn’t go out to parties or school events. i didn’t go to any sports games or join any clubs, i just kept to myself! and the people who did talk to me and say hi to me weren’t my real friends.” she continued.

“i didn’t even kiss anyone or have a boyfriend or anything. can you believe that?” she laughed, trying to hide the fact that that was one of the things about her that she was more insecure about.

mira turned her head against and floated closer to zoey.

“you’ve never kissed anyone?” she repeated.

her heart pounded out of her chest but she kept her eyes closed and her head up.

“..nope! not a one..” her voice was suspiciously high pitched, and her smile was wavering.

“i’m a dork, i know. i just never met anyone i liked that way.”

she squinted one eye open and saw that mira had gotten a lot closer than before.

“dude.. you’re lying.” mira said simply.

zoey sputtered and her head flew up, almost knocking her hair towel into the water.

“w-what?! uh- why would i- i wouldn’t lie about that, mira!” she said.

“yep, you’re totally lying. there’s no way you haven’t kissed anyone.” mira shrugged.

“i’m serious! i wouldn’t even know how to do it now.”

“oh please, you can drop the act with me. who was the lucky guy? or girl?” mira continued.

zoey groaned. “mira!”

“was it embarrassing? is that why you’re hiding it!”

mira’s grin was mischievous. she loved riling up zoey to see what she’d do.

“uh- okay, i’ll prove it to you. you’ll know if i’ve ever kissed anyone if i’m bad at it. like horrible, like super awfully terrible!” zoey hurried.

she was thinking a mile a minute. and therefore, not clearly.

mira scoffed. “okay, and how are you gonna prove it to me?”

zoey had built too much of a platform to back down now. not when she just confessed one of her hidden insecurities.

“you’ll see. close your eyes.”

mira’s tough and arrogant attitude suddenly melted into the water as her eyes widened. “uh- what?”

“you heard me! close ‘em!”

mira cleared her throat and awkwardly closed her eyes.

was zoey really going to do what she thought she was going to do?

no she wouldn’t. she couldn’t!

“what are you planning-“

“just shh!”

zoey took a deep breath, preparing herself, before she screwed her eyes shut and leaned forward.

her soft lips fell on mira’s. it was a feeling like nothing ever before.

mira was frozen, the poor girl didn’t know what to do. she didn’t want to freak zoey out but she was doing her own freaking-out, just in her mind.

as quickly as zoey kissed her, she pulled away, with her face red as a cherry.

mira was at a loss for words. she couldn’t honk of anything else to ask of zoey but for one thing.

to do it one more time.

“s-see? told you, i pretty much suck at it,” zoey said softly.

mira breathed out. “you.. definitely don’t.”

“i.. huh?”

mira’s nerves melted with the ripples in the water. her manicured hand went to zoey’s face before pulling her in to kiss her again.

as their lips touched, zoey couldn’t think clearly. the only thing she understood at that moment was how this felt.

how much she liked it and how she wanted more.

mira floated closer, deepening the kiss and pushing zoey against the granite.

zoey moaned softly as her hands went up from the water to hold mira’s face.

suddenly, the doors of the bathhouse were thrown open.

“ZOEY! MIRA!”

the girls basically teleported to opposite sides of the baths, both faces redder than anything.

rumi was heaving, fully clothed, and a few scratches on her face.

“DEMONS… IN THE SQUARE!.. ugh, WE GOTTA GO!” she breathed heavily.

the girls sputtered. “uh- wait- what?”

“hurry! i held them off on my way here but i need you guys. get dressed and meet me outside!” she yelled out.

the girls glance at each other before at rumi again.

“okay.”

“fine.”

rumi sighs and runs out of the bathhouse, her sneakers squeaking against the floor.

a moment of silence passed.

“so we should probably-“

“yeah, we should probably help rumi-“

zoey was the first to shuffle out of the bath and she quickly found her robe and wrapped it around herself.

mira did her best to avoid looking at her as she found her robe as well.

they got changed in awkward silence and went and found rumi to fight off the demons from the town square.

they could barely focus on fighting since both girls couldn’t shake the feeling of fuzziness from the kiss.

zoey almost got attacked from behind while she had zoned out.

rumi slashed it with her sword before it could do it though.

“ZOEY! focus! why are you so spaced out?!” she yelled.

“huh?! oh! oh, yeah, right! sorry!” she laughed out.

“did something happen?” rumi asked while fighting demons off to the side before stabbing one of the last demons.

the three girls looked around the square and let out a huff of relief as it was clear from any other enemies.

“okay, i promise that once the honmoon is golden and sealed, i will go to the bathhouse with you guys.” rumi said as she put her sword away.

“oh.. okay.” mira said, looking confused.

“what, i thought that’s- i thought that’s what you wanted. or why you were distracted.” rumi said.

the girls glance at each other before blushing again.

“y-yeah, that’s why. okay, that great rumi! sounds like a plan!” zoey squeaked out.

“…okay. mira? everything okay?”

“yeah. i’m cool. you’re cool, we’re cool. everyone’s cool.” she said quickly.

the girls stood in an awkward silence.

“let’s get ramen!” zoey chirped.

Then she kneels and presents her sword, cue Mira and Zoey lowering their weapons.
