#literature is a conversation and a connection to our world and it's such a pleasure to be able to dip your toes into it
i love reading, i love thinking about what i am currently reading, i love thinking about what i am going to read next, i love being privileged enough to be able to read, read, read, and read so much that i never tire of it
everyday I look at other people's art and I cry a little because I want the result but I don't know how to get there

Create a fantasy language, they said. It'll be fun, they said
I have finally read and watched through the Hunger Games (and am currently reading Ballad) so here are some of my thoughts because this series has me in a chokehold:
had never heard how detailed the PTSD is in this series??? the amount of description and panic written into not only what Katniss is feeling but also what Peeta and other background characters are feeling is incredible. we need more PTSD representation in literature, but this was a perfect way to do it
Finnick. like hands down one of the best characters in the series and then him just dying I am unwell
on the same topic of favorite characters, Haymitch. no, I haven't read Sunrise yet (and I'm terrified) but man. I love how the books have Katniss's snarky opinion of him at first, but the movies show how genuinely concerned he was for both her and Peeta. Best man, I will never turn down a father/daughter duo
Katniss's mother. I will go on a whole rant about her because she's so fascinating to me.
Katniss not being the actual rebel leader, rather just a girl being dragged along in something she can't control
the similarities between the Capital and 12 - they are the same in a way: both using Katniss to achieve their political goals
the amount of despair in Prim's death, knowing from the very beginning it didn't matter. she was always going to die, and Katniss wasn't able to save her. The reality of war is heavy
the worldbuilding: from the districts to the mutts, I love how subtle and yet how crucial everything is. just enough detail to satisfy, but just enough room to expound upon
Katniss.
Peeta.
the fact that, just like the actual Hunger Games, the Hunger Games series was simplified to a love triangle and not the political commentary that it was meant to be. the fact that the Hunger Games are happening now, in our own country, and only we can decide how we will face it
Collins knows what she's doing and I wish I could be half the author she is
Worldbuilding has my brain ping-ponging around with ideas. I've gone from space pirates, to monarchies, to fleet creation. 14-year-old me would be so proud.
the peaceful wind of nature - Collab with @anasabdin - thank you so much for animation and for turning this art into life - it was a great experience to work together with you! ✨
Let’s talk about Katniss’s mother, shall we?
She’s grown up living in fear of being reaped for so long, gets married, has kids, then loses the one thing that brought her joy: her husband. How long had she gone without losing anyone to the Games? But it doesn’t matter, because life is cruel and her loved one was still taken from her.
Katniss is so much like her father that even looking at her brings Katniss’s mother to a different time, a different place. Prim is so much like herself—it’s easier to be with her—but Katniss? She sings and works just like her late husband and Katniss’s mother can’t stand that. She can’t stand the songs, she can’t stand the reality of her world. So she dissociates.
She doesn’t try to repair their bond, doesn’t try to reach out. She barely asks where Katniss goes in Mockingjay and she only does that because it reminds her of her husband—leaving and then never coming back. 12 took so much from her, and she can’t go back.
Then Prim dies and the last of Katniss’s mother does too.
Prim is her hope, her new life. If Prim can keep going, then so can she. But with Prim gone, she has nothing but the constant reminder of her husband, Katniss. And she can’t stand to look at her anymore.
She can’t go back to 12. She can’t look at Katniss. So she doesn’t. She gives into the monotony of life and fades from the story.
This is why Haymitch is so important to Katniss and her story. If Katniss is her dad, then she needed someone like him to come alongside her and show her things. He has the same mindset as her father: be present and aware of what reality is. Katniss’s mother couldn’t do that.
And yet, Katniss is her mother. She dissociates just the same, but she had one difference—she had Peeta.
Derivakat's music has only gone up in quality since the dsmp days and I wish people recognized her more than just "white streak in my hair now" (as fantastic as that song is). Here are some of my favorite tracks rn:
Castaway - space vibes, introspective but intense, perfect for a main character
Yru - intense orchestral, beautiful lyrics, reaching for something more, longing for someone, crank-it and scream-it music
Fall - doomed lovers, that intense longing, like a clock as fate ticks down
Boom - giving Jinx (Arcane), great for fast-paced scenes, definitely would make a sick fight scene, back beat slaps
Reign - villain arc, gaslight gatekeep girlboss time
Her recent stuff has screamed ꜱᴘᴀᴄᴇ and I will get people to see it.
find comfort in envisioning the end
