Are Dazai and Chuuya the same age? If I understand correctly Chuuya is 18 (he said that when he was 13 he got that scar in chapter 10 and that it had been 5 years since then so 13 + 5 = 18). It was said in the first chapter that Dazai couldn't be older than he is, so the logical conclusion would be that Dazai is 18 as well? Is it true?

Yes it is! They’re around the same age but Chuuya is slightly older (similar to canon). However, he’s closer to being 19 now and will probably reach that age by the time the story ends. I considered aging them up considering I added canonically younger characters but these ages made the most sense when I got to Chuuya’s backstory and when I found out that pirates were usually in their early to mid 20s. Poe, Ranpo, and Yosano are older than skk by two or three years and Aku and Atsu are younger by one.

Hello! I sent this ask before but I’m not sure you got it. Can you pinpoint in the fic when exactly Dazai started climbing into bed with Chuuya to sleep? Was it ever sneakily alluded to in the fic? If not, can you tell us? Thanks!!

I had a section of Dazai's pov that dove into that topic in one of my earlier drafts of chapter 14, so I wanted to reference it to answer your ask...but because I went through several drafts (it was actually the part of the chapter that took the longest to write), I couldn't find it for the life of me 😔

And then I did (stashed in a completely different writing software of all places!) but then I couldn't decide if I should just fully flesh out that deleted scene or just vaguely reference it later down the line.

But to answer your question: it happens the night Chuuya falls asleep on the deck at the end of chapter 5!

Since the fic is mainly through Chuuya's pov, he doesn't suspect a thing so there's no hints he picks up on during the timeskip that happens after. The only instance we can see that something is up is when Chuuya asks Dazai in chapter 8 where he's been sleeping: Dazai avoids answering because by that point he's been sleeping in the same bed as Chuuya and he doesn't want to admit to it.

Since Evanescence is on the cards now, I’m going to definitely recommend “Lithium” by her from forever and a half ago!!!! 😄 it’s so strange to me that Dazai as a PIRATE refuses to drink and so clearly looks down upon opium, so I’ve got a horrible sinking feeling that there’s a horrific substance abuse history in his past 💔 in some form or the other. Still can’t tell if it’s directly related to him, or has something to do with Oda… aahhh I’m so excited to find out!! 💜

Sooo I was planning to have it out by the end of this week (!!) but then I got ambushed by exams and reports that have sadly taken my free time away for the millionth time. I should have some breathing room after this week (let’s commence a prayer circle 🕯️) so maybe sometime next week? I’m aiming for a weekend update at least (not this weekend though 😔).

Sorry, I promise I’m trying to get my shit together. If anything, I might cut the chapter in half (since it’s a loooong one) and update that first!

Lmao so Dazai was crawling into bed with Chuuya even during the middle of their Cold War after chapter 10? Awwwwkward!!! Or hmm in chapter 11, when they finally talk again Chuuya notes that Dazai looked more sleep deprived than usual. Maybe he HADN’T been sharing his bed then, and at Chuuya’s insistence that he get some sleep before their next big mission, he did that again and that’s why he looked better rested… aww Dazai sleeps better with Chuuya 💕 that’s really cute

I will!! I've been thinking about writing some extras once the main story concludes, which will cover side stories that didn't fit into the main storyline or that happen after. So far I have one that I know I want to write and if I can't fit the deleted scene, I'll either post it here or as an extra as well.

Also, aside from everything else Dazai had going on in his head, the fight with Chuuya was definitely an added factor to his lack on sleep. His pride also kept him from giving in and joining Chuuya on the bed, and when he would, it would be for as little time as possible. So when they "made up," that night he received the most sleep he'd had in days (which probably still wasn't enough under any sane person's standards lol).

Subconsciously, I'm sure he does sleep better with Chuuya next to him, though good luck getting him to realize that

Well, he's definitely not a fan of the combo. I mean, how would you feel if the person you're trying to torment also happened to have strikingly vibrant hair and gorgeous eyes? I'd be fighting demons every day trying to look past their features lol
