this is like. demonstrably false. tribal hunter-gatherer societies objectively had more leisure time than civilized ones. when our ancestors settled in the Fertile Crescent, they didn’t do so because it was easier.
the promise of civilization is food security. farming is objectively more work - but it’s certain that you will get food at the end.

I love Bernard he’s such a little dweeb. was watching the writing on the wall today and jim said something like “we’ve got it in the bag, this will really rock the boat” and you can just hear the RAGE in Bernard’s voice, like he’s gritting his teeth, when he says “you don’t put boats in bags”. adore this man.

you gotta be soooo much fun at parties
my friends seem to think so :)
i was watching the yes minster episode “The Skeleton in the Closet” today and had a random thought.
at about 10 minutes in, Sir Humphrey and Jim are walking through, like, a foyer? there’s big double doors behind them. and as they walk past, a woman comes through the doors and walks offstage the way they entered. they don’t interact with or even acknowledge her, and almost no viewer will even notice her presence. believe me when I say that her presence adds NOTHING to the episode.
but for some reason I started fixating on her (probably because she was kind of pretty and I’m very gay). who was she? why was she there? how did she get on the show? her cameo was so inconsequential that I can’t imagine she even got paid. did she just happen to walk through the shot and they left it in? or was she actually hired to be on screen for four seconds?
this post isn’t leading to any spectacular conclusion, it’s just a random thought. maybe I’ll write a fic about her character.
maybe include a spoiler warning next time. asshole.
i'm once again close to end another robespierre biography and it is takint every fiber of my being to actually finish it

sometimes I go on rule 34 and read out the comments in the voice Drew Gooden uses when he’s reading the titles of bad movies.
surprise! The meaning of words changes as society advances. Five hundred years ago, a “factory” was a warehouse where traders would store their goods in a foreign country. Two thousand years ago, a “factorium” was an oil press.
“Technology” was once a created product. Now, it’s something specifically technical, running on electricity with wires and screens and making beeps and boops. That’s the way of the world, the way language functions and has always functioned.
— Ursula K. Le Guin, from “A Rant About ‘Technology’”
