Ya'll i want to write a Topgun Fanfic, based on the short story 'The Things They Carried," but I'm not quite sure what all of them would bring. I know that Mav would have goose's dog tags (ignoring the scene where he throws the out over the ocean), and he would probably have some polaroids and letters from Ice, but Im not sure what else.
Ya'll have any ideas? or ideas for things ice can carry?
enoraba gives mint chocolate in a way thats difficult to describe

Hi TG Fandom!
I love thinking about an AU where: Pete Mitchell is eight years old and used to being bounced around from foster home to orphanage to group home to foster home. An eight-year-old Pete who is scrappy and world-savvy and angry, just imagine a Maverick before he's Maverick — all that Maverick-ness balled up in this pint-sized Pillsbury biscuit can of whoop-ass. He runs the show wherever he goes with his loud mouth and sense of righteous fury.
But then there's this new boy at the group home, this chubby nine-year-old blond boy with broken glasses held together with duct-tape and a big sweater with patches that covers his hands and half his face. He doesn't talk and spends most of the day hiding in his bed or reading an old Chemistry textbook that he brought from wherever he came from. Pete doesn't get him, thinks he's weird and the fact that the boy always looks so scared makes his tummy feel squirmy.
So, he starts to sit next to Blondie, shares his food — basically the only thing of value he has, and starts talking, and talking, and talking and talking if only to fill up all the space that Blondie doesn't with his own words. Eventually, Blondie starts scooting closer to Pete, leans against him and starts to talk in a small whisper that only Pete can hear.
Blondie’s name is Tommy.
They grow up together in that group home, they bond to each other in a way they've never bonded to anyone else. They make plans to get out and join the Navy together one day, to fly; and they promise to never be apart or alone again.
Then Tommy gets adopted.
Pete cries; Tommy screams. They might be teenagers now but it takes three men to get them to pry their hands off of each other. Tommy gets carried down the hallway howling, hands outstretched, yelling louder than Pete’s ever heard him speak before. Suddenly, the world is meaner and colder than it has ever been before and all he has left of his Blondie is that same scuffed up Chemistry textbook and a pair of broken glasses.
Pete runs away that night, glasses in his pocket and that heavy book stuffed into his backpack, but he never finds Tommy again… he finds Nicky Bradshaw instead.
He starts to move on from the hope of ever seeing Tommy again… until Top Gun and Animal Night at the O Club, when Pete catches sight of the first boy he’s ever loved, hiding with shades on and a vodka glass in his hand, instead of a patchy sweater and a Chemistry textbook.
Pete’s still a pint-sized Pillsbury biscuit can of whoop-ass and the world has changed them both into new people…
But when Iceman comes at him with bravado and snapping teeth, stinking of the alcohol that used to scare him when he was Tommy, regaling Maverick with tales of a father who loved a bottle more than him…
Pete reaches up to slip a little boy’s pair of broken glasses onto the blond’s face with a gentle, “Hi, Blondie.”
And Iceman crumbles away, leaving a crying Tommy in his place.
“Pete.”
He still says it the same way, like he's saying home.
"I want to BE one with the plane. Not just fly it, feel it's every move. Hear the roar of the Tomcat's engine deep within my soul. I want to BREATH the fumes of the fuel, let the power sink into my blood. I want to own this flying memory " -- Maverick, Probably.
Ice, done with this shit: "No Mav, I'm not letting you keep the damn F-14 that you crashed."
GUYS. HOW HAVE I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS GOING TO BE A TOPGUN 3.
WHAT THE FUCK.
SO MANY THINGS COULD HAPPEN OMG. THIS IS LIKE. THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE FILMMAKERS.
THEY COULD MAKE HANGSTER CANON (it's too late for icemav sadly).
THEY COULD MAKE THE DAGGER SQUAD PERMANENT.
SO MANY POSSIBILITIES SO LITTLE TIME.
Ice: Oh, so you two are getting along very... cordial now? Slider: Cordial? Nah, we're friends. Ice: Friends? Slider: Yeah. After you stopped us fighting, we got to talking. Seems like we have some common interests. Mav: We both love butterflies. Ice: Aww– Mav: And beating people up. Ice: Oh, okay.
i FUCKING LOVE THEM
Thomas Iceman Kazansky got his callsign in the Academy, when during a freak heatwave, he and a bunch of other students got drunk as fuck and he had the bright idea to wander off in search of cooler pastures. They found him hours later, sleeping peacefully in an open refrigerator, one of the old industrial ones, like the cold didn't affect him at all.
It also helped that one week later, an instructor and an admiral saw his steady flying and how he handled crises with a stern, collected countenance and remarked on his ice cold nerves of steel. It went from there.
Ice: I’m in love with you. Mav: We called off the prank war last night at midnight, dork. Ice: I know. Mav: Ah. Okay. Um. Cool. Neat. Very cool. Cool. Cool. Coolcoolcool-
my icemav obsession has returned full force. send help.
Bring your grandpa/dad to work day, but Jake got attached to this old man named Tom.
Tom was some old guy he snarked off at a coffee shop once and was pleased when the older man calmly gave a witty retort.
He keeps on bumping into the man in the same coffee shop, but he bumps into the old man at the park and grocery place at well.
Surprisingly they hit it off, and Jake looks forward to seeing Tom even though he'll never admit it. Tom's getting fond of the boy. Especially when he realized 3 months in that this was the same Jake "Hangman" Seresin who saved his husband and Baby Goose.
One day there was a bring your dad/grandpa/son to work day. Jake was talking about it to Tom, sad that he doesn't really have anyone to bring and was planning to call out because even tho Mav is great and Javy's family always welcome him, he feels like an outsider in those events. Tom hesitantly offered to come, not wanting to overstep, and Jake looked overjoyed.
Tom comes to the event and Jake was showing him around the base, and the shenanigans he gets into with his squad (Tom is delighted to gain some more blackmail against Mav). He also starts introducing Tom around, and some people are staring wide-eyed or straight up choke when they see Tom.
Why the fuck is the COMPACFLT here and in civvies!??? AND HANGMAN IS CALLING HIM, TOM???
Iceman makes sure to give his trademark glare to everyone who even thinks about mentioning his title or saying something to Jake. Everyone just snaps their mouths shut and smiles awkwardly.
It continues with Jake dragging THE ICEMAN around like an excited puppy, and Tom looking fond and ruffles Hangman's hair every few minutes. The base didn't realize how young Hangman really is until that day.
Eventually Tom and Jake run into Mav and Bradley and both have their mouths wide open as Jake introduces Tom to them.
Eventually ends with Mav saying, "Hey! I adopted him first!" While pouting.
"He takes after me more," Ice says giving Mav a grin as he slung an arm around Jake's shoulder to pull him against his side.
