when both you and the bae are traumatized
As someone who writes positive news for a living, here are my thoughts and tips for anyone who wants to get more good news in their life to balance out the bad:
Charities are your #1 source of good news. Read their impact reports, follow them on social media, sign up for their newsletters. I don't mean campaign groups - I mean charities that directly support people and communities.
Look for news on topics you care about the most. Generic "positive news" feeds cover too broad a scope to actually interest us, and positive news generally doesn't engage us as much as negative. So pick the topics nearest and dearest to your heart. maybe something you've been through, a health condition you or a loved one has, something that touches you deeply. And look for positive news about that specifically. Find an organisation that focuses on it and follows them for updates.
Think local. What are charities and community groups doing in your suburb, town, neighbourhood? If it's closer to home, it'll have a more significant impact on your wellbeing to read the positive news. It's easy to feel like the whole world is rotten, but you might find that there are little bubbles of goodness closer to you than you realise.
This morning, Shaima - the mother of three beautiful sons and a beautiful one-year-old daughter, Amal - sent me a message to help spread her campaign for her and her family. The following is from her GoFundMe page, which was organised on her behalf by a friend of hers, Brooke Cole:
"I am Shaima from Palestine, Gaza. I am a mother of four children, Magdy, Walid, Abdel Rahim, and Amal. My husband travelled to Egypt to get medicines two weeks before the October 7 war on Gaza. I faced very great challenges and responsibilities for my four children in the absence of my husband, as he was traveling and the crossing was closed and we could not see each other. The extent of the suffering I was feeling cannot be described. I reach out to you today with a heavy heart and ask for your urgent assistance. I have left my home and been displaced more than 6 times with my children. I live in the war-torn Gaza area, facing unimaginable challenges, with water shortages, food scarcity, and constant threats to their safety. Amalโs nephew, who was born a few days before the war, and her cousin, who went to Egypt for treatment, did not see her. Amal's infant nephew has a problem with his peripheral nerves, especially his left hand, and it also means a problem with his right foot, because there are platinum nails inside it, which restrict the movement of the foot. He will need to be evacuated to Egypt as soon as possible to treat his nerve damage and increase his quality of life as he grows."
You can donate to the GoFundMe to support Shaima and her beautiful family and ensure her children's nephew gets treatment for his foot injury. If you cannot donate, then please share! The fundraiser is at $1,200+ when the family needs a total of $30,000.
Let's do what we can to help Shaima and her family!

beauty and the beast-type tddk au, but instead of the movie's setting it's villain shoto/hero izuku is this anything
also COMPLETELY unrelated but when people talk abt stuff like quirkless vigilante izuku and whether toshi would be for or against it (generally they paint him as against it because it's usually an all might bashing dadzawa fic COUGHS who said that) i feel like people miss the obvious
girl he WAS that quirkless vigilante. anything he'd say about that would come from a place of having tried to BE that quirkless vigilante at FOURTEEN YEARS OLD. not get into ua. not get mentored. toshi's goal was to STOP CRIME with a LEAD PIPE and NO QUIRK
don't ever tell me that he'd be a big meanie who hates the quirkless and the idea of quirkless heroes/vigilantes ever again. get the fuck out of my house. if he's saying something against it thats because he doesn't want anyone else to get hurt!!! he had to get bailed out by nana!!! like!!! use your fucking brain im begging
i can't stop thinking about the lack of shade in gaza. with so many trees and buildings destroyed, there can't be very much shade. it's incredibly hot and there's very little protection from the sun and very little water. my weather app tells me the UV index reached 11 recently. it's inhumane to force people to live in such conditions.
donate to gaza medical tent
donate to disabled gazan children
i wrote trans boy toga and ochako cutting his hair :)
