I’m scared my fascination with space is just my most recent hyperfixation and then it will fade and I won’t really care anymore but I don’t want to stop caring I love space I love it so much

autism dictionary

Some of these may be common sense, but I figured to put some key terms on here for those who don’t know.

504 Plan - A plan that ensures disabled kids will academically succeed. Similar to an IEP.

AD(H)D - Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder

ASD - Autism spectrum disorder.

A$ - Autism $peaks, aka a horrible organization that has no autistic people on the board, claims to want to find a “cure” for autism as if it’s a disease, make the parents of autistic children seem like the victims, make extremely incorrect/offensive statements about autism, etc. read this if you want more info.

Autism/Autism Spectrum Disorder - A neurological condition that’s marked by differences in learning styles, passionate interests in specific subjects, repetitive motion, and sometimes difficulty with language and communication. Typically a broader term/umbrella for other disorders (such as Aspergers Syndrome.)

Behavior - A manner of acting.

Cognitive behavioral therapy - A type of psychotherapy in which negative patterns of thought about the self and the world are challenged in order to alter unwanted behavior patterns or treat mood disorders such as depression.

Hyperresponsiveness - Abnormal sensitivity or over reactivity to sensory input; feeling overwhelmed by what most people would consider common or ordinary, such as a child reacting negatively to a hug.

Hyporesponsiveness - Abnormal insensitivity or under reactivity to sensory input, such as a child who appears deaf but their hearing is normal.

IEP - A plan that ensures disabled kids will academically succeed. Similar to a 504 Plan.

Meltdown - The body’s way of reacting to overstimulation, often confused with temper tantrums. Can be very loud or very quiet. The person experiencing a meltdown will often show signs of distress or frustration.

Obsessions - Repetitive thoughts that are persistent and intrusive.

Sensory overload - Sensory overload is basically when something overwhelms you to the point of not being able to function. Examples are loud noises, being given too much information at once, flashy lights, a certain texture. It could even be small things, like mouth noises or breathing or the squeaking of a pencil.

Shutdown - A muted response to sensory overload, typically the “opposite” of a meltdown. The person will go completely silent, isolate themselves, go completely still, etc.

Special interest - An intense or passionate love for a certain interest, such as Pokemon or the Dictionary. They are very meaningful and important, to the person, and they can either be lifelong, or they will faze out to make room for a new one.

SPD - Sensory processing disorder.

Stimming - Repetitive behavior that people with autism commonly partake in, sometimes to alleviate the stressors of overstimulation. Examples include rocking, flapping/clapping your hands, spinning a toy, pacing, etc.

Different types of fairies

Not all are listed, only a few, there are far too many...

Brownies

They’re the most helpful, they help with chores and around the house.

They expect a food offering

Never offer money, they consider this poor taste and they will mess up your house.

Pixies

They’re mischievous and can be dangerous.

They play tricks, especially on travelers.

They’re known to lead people into bogs and swamps. (It’s not uncommon for someone to get caught in quick sand and die)

Leprechauns

Solitary

They don’t venture into places with humans.

Dwarves

German folklore

Ugly and extremely strong.

They’re friendly unless offended, then they may become harmful.

They’re proud of their craftsmanship-> furniture and iron work.

Watch your manners around them.

Elves

Scandinavians brought their tales to the English isles during the Viking conquest.

There are two kinds-

dark and light.

They have magical powers to enchant people.

They move between their world and ours.

Changeling

Spoke about them in previous post.

Fauns

They have horns on their head, a human torso and they’re goat below the waist.

Live in the Woodland Forrest’s.

They’re alluring, seductive and compelling.

They can prey on their victims by using mind control and magic conjured from their pipes or flute.

Elves say that if you see one try to avert your eyes because once they’ve got your attention, you’re under their control.

They’re neutral creatures but they can be dangerous.

Gnomes

They’re shy and cautious.

They seek only the company of their own kind.

They’re extremely short- maybe 9 inches.

They can be master healers.

They’re found in the most isolated areas.

Hobgoblins

Solitary

Dark brown creature.

Lives in Forrest’s in trees.

They’re neutral and keep to themselves.

Not aggressive unless provoked.

It may be best to leave them alone.

I’m so confused... like why are churches and some religions saying that men can control women because they’re simply property and that men have the right to objectify the fuck out of women when in most of the bible verses, Jesus says to all of his disciples to respect the women... like Jesus literally suggested his disciples physically harm themselves so they wouldn’t do the things that churches and those few religions are saying is a-ok???

Ugh throwback to some thread i saw in Elliot’s tag where someone was confused about why Elliot didn’t just continue taking his meds. Like

1) You’ve clearly never taken a medication ( or multiple ) with shitty side effects that makes it hard to maintain and it shows.  2) You don’t treat DID with meds so it wouldn’t have blocked MR’s interactions entirely or maybe at all. Elliot wasn’t taking meds for that to begin with nor being treated for it because he didn’t know about it yet. He was being medicated for his hallucinations/paranoid delusions, depression and anxiety.  3) I think we can safely assume Elliot both felt at times paranoid about taking his meds and other times MR was dumping them (probably more often than not) because they affect him too and he’s paranoid about being cut off from Elliot even though they probably wouldn’t have but it’s easier for him to convince Elliot of things when he’s a little less than stable.  Edit: 4) NOT TO MENTION ELLIOT CHOSE TO SELF MEDICATE WITH MORPHINE SO THERE’S THAT. So that’s him medicating in his mind. Or how he chose to because it was easier on him.

ADHD is chanting “walnuts, walnuts, walnuts, walnuts …” under your breath 300 times, then getting distracted for half a second and forgetting to add the fucking walnuts to the banana bread before putting it in the oven.

Alien: You’re telling me that in times of great distress humans have been known to suddenly gain the strength necessary to lift objects more than a dozen times their own weight?!

Human: Yeah, it’s called “hysterical strength” and it usually happens in life-or-death situations, like when someone gets stuck under a car or something and someone lifts the car to get them out. We can’t really test it though, ‘cause it only happens spontaneously.

Alien: Humans have the ability to tap into untold strength and power and you don’t even know how you do it?

Human: Pretty much, yeah. We think it has something to do with temporary analgesia, so we just don’t feel the pain we should when we pick up a 3000-pound car.

Alien: YOUR PAIN RESPONSE JUST SHUTS OFF?

Human: Yeah, it’s like an adrenaline thing? Do you not have that?

Alien: Fuck you and your entire species of tiny juggernauts.
