Even if I’m not particularly happy with how this turned out, I can’t say that I started with a very happy premise, either...considering that I’ve mostly been in the mood to do venty typography. Also, trying to go out of my typographical comfort zone by 1) explicitly working with RGB colors, 2) trying to fiddle with glowing shit after years of not bothering, and 3) trying to use a screwball 8-bit font...probably didn’t help.
Regardless, I tried. I figure I should show stuff I don’t do too well with, too.
I’m also kind of mad at myself for forgetting to save the stupid .psd for this particular iteration, so if I want to make it look like this again, I’ll have to start from scratch.
I’m more or less satisfied with this, but this ultimately demonstrated a huge problem in graphic design. Specifically, when you find a really good font, but you have to either pay money or contact someone to use it for commercial use.
I say this because the left one is completely freeware fonts (Milkshake + Ostrich Sans), but the right one uses Blacksword, which is only free for personal use. I COULD do my own handlettering, but that’s time consuming on my end, and I want to turn this into a card ASAP...so in terms of my time, that’s not an option.
I’m kinda sad that I can’t commercially use the right one at this time. At least I have a cute corgi in a bowtie staring at me to reassure me that it’s all gonna be ok.
(And for the record, I am aware that you cannot actually give alcohol to doggos. Truffles had no wine, and the wine is only there as a photoshoot prop. My roommate drank the wine later. Truffles got to have a couple of crackers, though.)
I appreciate this advice...also, I think this puts yet another bullet point under "Let's establish some boundaries at work and shut off availability on at least Tuesday".
Maybe more streaming would be in order as well.
I’ve noticed that I’m quite abysmal at keeping up drawing whenever I have a new partner in my life.
I love art and design, but I’m absolutely infatuated with my bae, and it’s conflicting. because I don’t know how to balance both loves at the same time, as well as my day job.
I don’t know what to do with myself at the time, and advice would be lovely.
I found myself revisiting an old drawing that touches upon a lot of the same fears and feelings I have right now—and I have to say that I’m pretty happy with what I can do these days with my speedpainting skills... even if I don’t have a lot of time and I’m kinda weirded out by the sense of deja vu.
Probably not the best work, but it’s more or less a second draft of a typographic quickdraw I made when I was irritated at another classmate over trying to lecture me about gender roles.
My previous Web design is actually alive now. I'm pretty happy about that. #webdesign #uxdesign #AdobeMuse #officespace #stapler
I’m always baffled when a throw away doodle of mine pops up somewhere else on the internet.
This time, a quick 5-10 minute meme speedpaint challenge I drew came up on Google. I spent the last five minutes laughing. I can’t believe that it spread past the one thread it was meant for.
So, this is the result of my Twitch Stream! I’m pretty stoked that I’m back in the swing of things after Hurricane Irma, and I’m pretty happy that I made A LOT of progress on the page in the past 4.5 hours (although I felt like I wasted a bit of my time with Lazy Nezumi. I want to see if I was doing something wrong, because I only found it useful for two things.)
I also appreciate that the quote “Vaporwave Trash Child’s Baby” is now immortalized in a Facebook status of @arzeron‘s, and I got some good pointers for drawing babus from @galacticglaciers.
Have a goofy, transparent Sonic the Hedgehog.
It was something I wanted to do for Dumb Running Sonic, but never got to. I still haven’t gotten to animating the poor guy, either.
Also, it was inspired a bit by Ren and Stimpy. There may be an accompanying Tails in the near future. (So far, he kinda looks creepy more than gooby, so I don’t know how I feel about my Tails prototype.)
I’m semi-proud of the fact that I did some 3D modeling recently.
I’m still not the best texturer in the world (even though 2D digital painting is something I’m super familiar with), but it’s something!
I’m just happy that I won’t have to do many streetlamps ever again...because I can just use my own model as a reference!
These are some pencils I designed within the past few months, with a pencil case included.
I decided that the idea was that they would use flocking (so that certain parts of the pencils would be fuzzy). The overall theme, of course, is creepy stuff.
Greetings and salutations! I'm a graphic designer/illustrator, and this is my Tumblr. Feel free to check my about page for more info about me. Also, I only post my own things here—almost all reblogs will go to @dandyreblogs. Check that out if you're into aesthetics and other curious things.
