Ymir kept seeking for that purpose, all while she was living her life for others. She realized it was pointless once it led her to an “endless nightmare” as a pure titan. Basically equal to death, if not worse. Upon her faith, she encountered 4 honorary Marleyans in her pure titan form, who we know as Reiner, Bertholdt, Annie and Marcel. When she ate Marcel, Ymir got a second chance in life and she made a promise to herself, to live for none other than herself this time around. But in the end, she was to selfless to do so. She broke her own promise, which she realized. “I have no regrets” but she had one, not being able to marry Historia. Her character was selfless, which she struggled with and denied in the eyes of the people. She felt she owed the life she involuntary took from Marcel, resulting in her making a choice to save Reiner and Bertholdt by returning back the life she “stole”. She knew she didn’t have to, but she couldn’t refuse. Ymir laughed about it, let out a few tears. Is a human worthy of a second chance in life? She lived hers without regret, and she was loved by one, that was enough for her. in the end her character comes full circle with making a choice for the sake of others again, but with the realization that it’s not a mistake. It’s simply who she is. Which is why this time it was done without regrets. “If i Ymir, reject the person i was born as, it’s as good as losing.”

I wanted to add that her dialogue surrounding her arc were so perfectly done. She didn’t complain, she was conscious of her actions. She didn’t explain anything to anyone, her truth was with herself. Didn’t matter if the world thought of her as a selfless one. Which is what she tried teaching Historia, Sasha. This takes place in the Path To Freedom universe but it's a flashback story of Fyodor's past prior to the events of the original comic. Also, the format is a bit different since this time it will be heavily narrator based and not dialogue, so there will be more text than in The Path To Freedom but this overall project is shorter than the comic.

I know I said I will make explanation sheets for The Path To Freedom, but I realised it was hard to do without spoiling major points from this backstory, so I decided to start posting this project first xD Enjoy!

This is Golden Mentality (GM). She is an incredibly old model of iterator created nearby the inception of the idea, by no means the first, but old enough to the point customs and regulations used towards them by Ancients were not widespread. From their outward appearance and their design alone, Atsushi and Akutagawa are meant as opposites, but they’re also a duality:

Both wear black and white clothes, but whereas Atsushi is mostly white with a streak of black, Akutagawa wears mostly black with a streak of white. It’s even represented in their hair colours.

Besides this, there are many other things that mark their oppositeness and their duality to each other:

Atsushi is a member of the ADA, while Akutagawa is a member of the PM. Atsushi’s ability colour is blue, Akutagawa’s ability colour is red. Being a member of the ADA makes Atsushi someone who works for the “light and day”, Akutagawa is someone who works for the “darkness and night.” Atsushi loves cats, Akutagawa hates dogs. Atsushi’s ability takes the form of a tiger, Akutagawa’s ability represents a dragon, both creatures are important elements in Asian mythology. Ultimately, Atsushi symbolizes life or is associated with life, while Akutagawa symbolizes death or is associated with death.

Considering this, the title Shin Soukoku (Double Black) isn’t even a fitting name for them, since they both aren’t simply a double, as both Mori and Fukuzawa or Dazai and Chuuya were.
