My favourite head canon of all time♡♡♡

Tim doesn’t drink coffee, but he drinks tea.

So, so much tea.

He’s not a casual tea drinker, he doesn’t just have a stash of sugar and earl grey at his desk with a few mugs at the ready.

No, Timothy Drake has over sixteen seperate kettles and tea sets in his room. Some are china, some are vintage, some are shaped like flowers or frogs or painted with a Vincent Van Gogh style over it. Some only have one cup and saucer, some have enough for a tea party. Some are so old they’re are chipped and faded. Some are so new they haven’t been used and are still set up nicely in a display case.

That’s just the carrier of the tea, but the flavours he has on hand…

He has English breakfast, he has Merlot, he had Green Tea, Herbal, Black Current, Lemon, Chamomile, Honey, Mint, Butterfly Pea, African Solstice, Cherry, Chocolate, everything! If you can think of it or have heard of it somewhere before, he has it.

Every knows that he drinks the, they see him with a cup near constantly and he even has a keep cup for when he’s patrolling.

But not even knows exactly how deep his obsession goes.

Alfred does, because he once had to listen to Tim talk about how you can’t rank read through taste alone but also process and how it works with sugar and milk and sweetener after the older man made the mistake of saying he thought English Breakfast was best.

Bruce knows because he once threatened to confiscate Tim’s tar strainers if he didn’t get some rest and witnessed how hard Tim Drake can tweak firsthand.

Barbara knows because she once accidently broke a cup when she backed into a table with her chair and, while Tim was understanding it was an accident, she had to watch him go through the stages of grief in real time. The kid had openly mourned the cup that had been shaped like an apple as if it was a loved one and she swore not to touch them again lest she cause another funeral.

Yet, even though not even has seen the dozens of cases and cabinets he has to organise his tea leaves and dishes, there is one thing that everyone has a deep understanding of.

If Tim lets you use a cup, he sees you as someone to trust. He thinks you’re reliable and trustworthy enough to touch something fragile and valuable to him.

But if he serves you tea himself, from his own personal collection?

You aren’t just loved by him, you aren’t just his family, but you have single handedly gained one of the biggest allies you will ever have.

The first text box reads "Eyes are not affected as often as you'd probably assume (mostly because blinking and all) but eye damage is frequent in chemical burns (as opposed to thermal)". Their left eye looks very small with swollen eyelids and partially opaque iris. Text reads "The redness you can sometimes see is a result of chronic conjunctivitis, it's not an open wound situation. Here the right lower eyelid is missing so it looks like it's red and shiny. The left lower one is turned outward and it causes corneal scarring, which results in parts of the eye looking white(r) and the eyelids to swell". The bottom section features four eye adjacent conditions and their characteristics. The first one shows a person with one of their eyes missing and an empty pale-red socket visible. It's titled "Enucleation". Text underneath reads "If the eye is as badly damaged as in 90% of OCs with burns then they will get it removed. Despite popular perception there is quite literally nothing 'gore' about an eye socket. The redness/whiteness is the same thing as on your eyelid when you pull it. The empty socket has a much smaller opening and is very flat in comparison to a full socket. If the character has a protruding brow ridge, the shadow will fall on the whole area". Second one features a dark-skinned person's eye, which is brown with a white spot on the lens. Text reads "Cataracts is a condition of the lens, so it affects the lens by making it to appear clouded. Causes blindness". Third one shows an eye of a pale person; it's slightly red with blood vessels visible and the irid is blurry with a large opaque spot in the middle. Text reads "Corneal scarring causes pain, red sclera, and the opaqueness that can happen over the whole eye, not just lens. Also causes blindness".

Continuation from the previous slide. Last one shows an eye with the upper eyelid fallen down. Text reads "Ptosis is caused by nerve damage more than anything else. It makes the eyelid fall down, but does not affect the eye itself. Can technically make someone unable to see if the eyelid doesn't open". Fifth slide description starts from here. It shows a three-step process of drawing the skin texture. First step shows a patch of light skin, titled "get a base". Second step puts various brown lines of different sizes on the skin, largely going from the upper left to bottom right, spreading out on the right. Text reads "Draw slightly darker lines of various lengths to imply contractures". There’s a second, smaller drawing, first with the lines going in similar direction and the other with the lines all pointing different ways and going over each other. Text above them is "try to keep them going in a direction that makes sense" and "not just random strokes" respectively. Third step adds some shadows and highlights on the scars. Text reads "add subtle shading to show texture changes, can also add highlights". DISCLAIMER. Please keep in mind that this is an introductory overview for drawing some burn scars and has a lot of generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People. I'm calling this introductory because I hope to get people to actually do their own research before drawing disabled & visibly different characters rather than just making stuff up. Think of it as a starting point and take it with a grain of salt (especially if you have a very different art style from mine).

Talking about research and learning... don't make your burn survivor characters evil. Burn survivors are normal people and don't deserve to be constantly portrayed in such a way.

When I said Cordria had bangers, THIS is one of them! Another fic that I read annually, this one involves Lancer getting closer and closer to Danny's secret while he's stuck in detention for the weekend. I love love LOVE the characterization of Danny and Lancer in this, another at the top of the favorite list!

👻 Plunge by Cordria (sequel to Masks ^)

"Sequel to 'Masks'. Now that Lancer has learned the truth and has let Danny out of his office, Danny needs to face the next hurdle: his parents."

For some reason, I always forgot to put this on my favorite list so I often missed out on reading it with my annual read of Masks. I remember it being a decent sequel where the Fentons pick up the pieces of Danny's reveal.

"Danny has been captured and thrown into the Pits by Walker to fight for his life. Listen in as he tells his dark, twisted tale of surviving despite the odds. Warning: dark and depressing. Sequel is 'Final Exam'."

Another one I don't fully remember, but it had to be a solid read since it's on my favorites haha! I have a vague sense that it was a little angst/gore-y(?) as the description warns, so just heads up!

"The look on my parents' faces – eager, curious, somewhat hateful – wasn't exactly hard to give away their intentions. I knew what they were going to do to me even before Mom snapped on a pair of rubbery, white latex gloves."

*** This one is definitely a vivisection fanfic with graphic descriptions, so beware that content. Again, haven't read it in a long time but it had satisfied my angst itch back in the day.

"A continuation to Cordria's starshot #69 "Wondering". Danny's been captured and tortured by his parents, but he refuses to say a word until his psychiatrist starts connecting the dots. Can he risk keeping it a secret any longer?"

*** Another angst, lab experiment-esque fic. There are definite graphic scenes (as warned in the first chapter). I do remember this fic being huge in the 2010s (definitely a staple of the Phandom). The relationships and Danny recovering from his torture were great highlights.

"Maddie knows that the Booo-merang has keyed into Danny, for whatever reason, so what's she to think when she sees it collide with Phantom?"

Don't quite remember this one, but Lynse is amazing at writing, so it's bound to be a good read.

"Danny leaves with his bathroom excuse and leaves Dash curious. He follows Danny and ends up the the gym room with him. While they're in there, an earthquake occurs and leaves them trapped inside. Will any secrets be revealed? No DashxDanny! They're just the main characters!"

This one is another one that I've read multiple times over the years! From what I remember, it was a fun read involving Dash and Danny being trapped in the gym after an earthquake, and explores how Danny handles his secret around Dash while they wait for rescue.

💙👻 A Jock and a Hard Place by AnneriaWings

"Danny and Dash were silent, trying to wrap their mind around that stupid, simple fact – the door was locked. They were trapped. In a janitor's closet. Together. (Collab with Haiju)"

No romance in this one! Another story where Danny and Dash get trapped together. I've read this one several times, and remember enjoying the tension of Danny's secret being revealed. I also think they explored Danny and Dash's relationship in a fun way!

"Maddie wants her family back. In an attempt to understand her Danny's change in behavior, she unwittingly enlists the GIW to exorcize Phantom from her son."

Gonna be real with ya'll, I don't remember this one at all. But uhhh I'm gonna throw it on here just because I can. :)

Yet again, I don't remember this fic. Sorry! But it's under 8000 words, so it's a little bit of a shorter read than some of the ones on this list!

This one involves Danny and his class getting out of Amity Park, so it's a little more oc-filled and explores a nontraditional setting for the trio. There might be a little SamxDanny in this one if I remember correctly, but overall I do remember having fun reading through this!

The ending battle chapters always gets me excited to reread! ***Danny does get straight up shot by Dash at the beginning so be warned for that content. But I remember a post going around a year or so ago where someone had drabbled about Danny getting up after being shot by Dash. This story explores that concept with a longer plot!

"Lost deep in the woods with an undead pack on their heels, Maddie and Phantom find themselves entangled in an awkward alliance. Can they cooperate long enough to get out of this mess?"

Another favorite! This one explores Maddie and Danny's relationship, kind of similar to how the show did in the Maternal Instincts episode. I adore how HaiJu explores Maddie's thought-process with dealing with Phantom in a situation where she kind of needs him and he won't leave her alone. Great mother-son fic!

👻 Phantom of Truth by Haiju

"Locked away in a secret government lab with Phantom as her subject, nothing stands between Maddie and the truth... except, perhaps, herself."

Haven't read this one in a loooooong time, but I remember being around for HaiJu updating this fic, posting about it on Tumblr, and the Phandom being generally hyped for it. Another staple for the Phandom! It's another torture fic, so heads up regarding that content!

💙👻 Shadow of a Doubt by Haiju (Sequel to Phantom of Truth ^)

"The truth was supposed to save Danny. Fix things. The lab, the experiments, the lies, those were all in the past. Weren't they? Sequel to Phantom of Truth."

And then BAM on top of finishing Phantom of Truth, HaiJu hit us all with a completed sequel! so wolfy’s boar story + nicole line.

“ Why not wolves? Many a tale has wolves in it, and even the compendium personally burned by Madame Mage had a wolf character!

It is said that the Boar Tribe were once all wild boars, but the boars did bad things, so the master wanted to punish them. The master took out a rusted set of scales, and told the boars to stack their own things on both sides. If the scales tipped to one side, they could leave.

But the scales were so rusty that putting just a small amount of weight was not enough to move them.

Those boars who placed their heads on the scales became wolves, lizards, and snakes, leaving only their strength. Those who offered their muscles became rabbits, leaping three paces to a bound, instinctively guiding people to treasure.

But there was one boar who placed things evenly on both sides, until the rusted scale broke right down the middle...

And so she became a mute person — for she had placed her voice upon the scales as well.

She is also a friend of Madame Mage, and I hear she likes to speak in people's heads! “

tldr: the seelie got their husk forms via Scale Punishment for a ‘bad thing’ they did. they were punished by a 'master'. (in this context, it may be implied to be PO.) and, depending on which metaphorical parts of themselves they gave away, they turned into multiple different creatures. btw, it's hard to tell how metaphorical the scales are. they may very well be actual scales because mihoyo is just cheeky like that.

“Legends of Jueyun” and "Amethyst Crown". they differ, which leads me to believe that "legends" is not to be taken literally, at least anymore. nabu malikata's account is much clearer: the Scale Punishment might have happened right after the Second Who Came (Nibelung potentially), when PO was anxious of their empire crumbling. and that Scale Punishment was the great exiling of seelies, "divine envoys of heaven".

Arama in “Aranyaka: Part III - Nursery of Lost Dreams, Part 2: For the Children of the Past”: the ‘bad thing’ should be falling in love with humans. i interpret this as protecting humans at large, as a race. or maybe creating nephelim. or maybe that's one and the same. "Song of Seelie": the 'Boar Tribe' likely lived in the Dark Sea and/or Abyss, as that's where the seelie are said to have had palaces before being exiled.

"The Little Witch and the Undying Fire": teyvat's people (imo it's unclear if that's the UC or current ones) are nephilim — fusions of angels (probably seelie) and regular humans.

funny thing: little husk seelie + nabu malikata and vishaps have horns and their designs seem to be based on the same animal — varieties of sea slugs. they are also connected to the moon sisters, not only through “Legends of Jueyun” but also because of something you may not want to read, so skip ahead. here i go:

now, goddess selene/luna (depends on the religion) in her description looks like nabu malikata and the seelie ladies who appear in various stories; she's always a beautiful pale woman (see for example "drunkard's tale"), and in nabu malikata's case, they're both horned. regardless, selene/luna are stemming from the moon gods like men and mah, and all of those guys always have the visual of horns of a crescent rising behind. and the very old babylonian moon god suen/sin/nanna is additionally the god of cattle. the husks of seelies we interact with in game have tiny horns themselves, too (so nabu malikata isn't an outlier).

there's an achievement in enkanomya called "phosphorus's guidance" that you get by following seelies to their courts, which implies phosphorus being, like, either all seelies collectively, or, more likely, their ancestor from "legends of jueyun". phosphoros literally means 'morning star', they are the god of planet venus (sometimes called morning star). another word is heosphoros which means 'torch-bearing' and that's how hecate and diana appear in their iconology. additionally, selene is a sister of the goddess of dawn eos. with dawn comes the morning star, venus is mainly the goddess of love, her name meaning 'desire', and eos's description is overwhelmingly just how lusty she was. in roman mythology lucifer's mother is aurora, which etymologically leads us to, again, eos. lucifer literally means 'light bringing', and is not only the name of the christian devil, but also diana's title -- lucifera. her name, btw, means 'divine, heavenly', and 'morning sky'.

tldr: phosphoros (the seelie god or something according to a genshin achievement) is basically diana, the moon goddess.

✦ foxes — some weird spirit guys. i don’t know. definitely have an istaroth connection. “The Dandelion Sea” whole; the wind spirit turning into a fox in "A Drunkard's Tale"; "Imperatrix Umbrosa Chapter: Act II - Transient Dreams, Part 3: Radiant Sakura": makoto's plan (ei planting the sakura in the plan of euthymia) involved istaroth, and i the cutscene of it coming to fruition foxes come along.

✦ snakes — ambiguous. offered (at least) 'head'. maybe khaenriah, another group or all instead of wolves, simply because dainsleif’s contemplation is ourobouros.

LIKE NIGHT-MOTHER?? *grits teeth* i don't know what exactly is going on there but this may be related to the 'head'. purple (colour of padisarahs) is the colour of abyss and hexenzirkel and the imaginarium type in hi3 too and don't dare tell me this is not important.

I do not agree with this, but I recently saw someone on tumblr say that the only queer coding in the good omens book was aziraphale being called a slur, and that neil gaiman's books featured gay charactera being pedophiles.

I havent read all of his books, so I dont have any idea about the last statement, only coraline and good omens and I am reading the graveyard book right now, but what do you think about this sentiment? Is there any truth in said statement?

If the source of those accusations are the kind of people suggesting anybody go kill themselves, I'd wager their thoughts are largely worth ignoring.

Neil Gaiman is a kind and empathetic human who has canonically queer characters in many of his works, as does Sir Terry Pratchett, the co-author of Good Omens.

Good Omens the book, in its entirety, is an allegory for 'love is love' at the same time as poking holes at the religious institutions that claim otherwise. The queerness is subtextual, yes, but that's literature for you - the greatest works of art are never the ones that shove the point in your face, but ones that deliver truth wrapped in beautiful lies. It is a sad fact of life that some minds cannot grasp beneath the surface, but here is an article that might help those people get a better understanding of the subtext:

I would hazard a guess that the people who said those things about Neil are probably deeply unhappy, angry people looking through a narrow and shallow lens.

(The paedophile thing is, I think, referencing a character that appears in one episode of the Sandman TV series -- possibly the comics, too, I haven't read all of them -- and yep it is an uncomfortable scene but there are so many other queer characters that are positively represented in so many of his works, and plenty of straight/cis characters that do awful things in that same episode, so... *shrugs* I really don't see their point.)

I haven't read everything Neil has written (although I am working on it!), and I am not fortunate enough to know him personally, but we have interacted a handful of times on here, and in my experience he has always been inclusive, considerate and supportive of the queer community. He spoke kind words to me when I was worried about my nonbinary kiddo's safety with the Tories trying to ban gender affirming language in school, and said he was so glad when I told him that Good Omens had healed mine and my dad's relationship and brought us closer after years of rifts due to my sexuality (update: my dad now wears a Pride pin). When I was at my lowest and my life was falling apart and I sent him a message just thanking him for giving me something to hang on to, and again, he sent the loveliest message of hope and kindness.

I'm not going to tag him here because I wouldn't want him to see the things that were said, but if anyone has any doubts about the man just go to his Tumblr. Take twenty minutes to scroll and see for yourself.

I know I, and many others here, are very grateful to Neil, not just for his representation of queer characters, but his unwavering support and advocacy here and in the real world. He is a light.

What other Neil Gaiman work might you like?

The biggest thing to know about Neil Gaiman is that each work of his is a mixture of horror, fantasy, and subtle comedy.

That being said, each of his projects is pretty distinct from one another and there might be some that are more up to your tastes than others.

I haven't read some of his newer stuff (because I largely stopped reading as much since the early 2010s), but I'll do my best to remember what matters in other works.

Horror

The Sandman is a great work for horror fans. It's also great for mythology fans and other nerds, but horror is a major push and pull factors.

What Other Neil Gaiman Work Might You Like?

The comic is probably the greatest body of work Gaiman produced and it's recommended if you're a goth at heart and are comfortable with themes of death and humans being gods' toys.

The Sandman (TV) is a great adaptation, but it's very short so far and doesn't cover the best stories.

Coraline is a horror story for children. It doesn't have anything that's not suitable for kids, but it can be viscerally scary to some people. Both the book and the film are great.

Mirrormask is my personal favourite, it's a low budget film with mindblowing surreal imagery and one of the best soundtracks ever.

It's about a teenage girl who has troubles with her parents (who run a circus, btw) and who gets swiped up by her imagination into a bizarre world that is being eaten by her depression. Not a scary film, per se, but it's disturbing. However, it's a very warm film and it always makes me feel better.

Fantasy

Neverwhere is set in a dimension of twisted London Underground where everything that's straightforward in our world becomes weird and too real.

It really tickled my imagination, I highly recommend the book.

Stardust is set in a more high fantasy setting.

It features kings, witches, ghosts, and a star that fell to the Earth. It has a young protagonist who's not exactly the best or the brightest person, so if you hate such things, stick to the adaptation. In my opinion, the book is just lovely.

American Gods is a darker fantasy that asks the questions: "What if every god people ever believed in became real through the power of their worship? And then what if that worship started fading?"

It's set in the USA and because that country is such a melting pot, there are many gods. And not all of them are happy. This is the book that gave Neil Gaiman his reputation of a writer who loves weird sex scenes.

Humour

Stardust the film is often compared to Princess Bride. It's lighthearted, funny, full of imaginative adventures.

Just a very nice film with an all-star cast.

Anansi Boys is a spin off of American Gods, but it's a lot more lighthearted.

Anansi is a trickster god, so you know things will get funky.

I haven't read The Graveyard Book and The Ocean at the End of the Lane yet, but I hear they're very good as well.

Also, short story collections or Norse Mythology might be a good place to start if you want to get a feel of Neil Gaiman as an author first.

As a rule of thumb, don't reblog donation posts or people asking for donations unless they've been vetted and reblogged by Palestinian bloggers. We usually go to lengths to verify this shit because we know scammers have been faking to get people to send them money, using the urgency of our genocide as bait.

It's disgusting this is what we're dealing with, but people are losing money because of some truly evil people out there.

Accounts don't just randomly spring up on tumblr without gofundmes while asking for someone to help them create a campaign. Fuck out of here with that shit.

I don't understand why people don't talk about them. Phobos has so much potential since they are this concept that doesn't understand humans but loves Remuria's citizens all the same and will do whatever it takes to protect its legacy and fullfil their deepest and darkest wishes until the end
