REMUS’S MIND CAME TO A SCREECHING HALT AS HE PROCESSED THE MAN’S WORDS. hobbit. Hobbit! Oh he was a great big blubbering idiot. He was dumber than a flobberworm; how had he not seen this? Or even thought about it? When Stephanie Brown had explained the idea of multiple universes to him (not that it needed much explaining - he was a comic reader after all, and the idea wasn’t even a stretch for the wizarding world), why had he not wondered if characters he loved would be here. Like fucking Lord of the Rings characters.
❝ I SUPPOSE IT MUST GET ANNOYING WHEN PEOPLE JUST ASSUME YOU’RE HUMAN. ❞ i’m not human either, not fully. Not that Remus would say that out loud even to people who knew. Though that was probably because he knew the people who knew would hit him if they heard him say that. ❝ That’s really nice that you learned it all from your dad. My pa - well we have magic in common but that’s about it. My ma though. I was trying to go into the same field as her, nursing. She was an angel, I swear. ❞ He chuckled, shaking his head. ❝ Sorry, you didn’t ask for my life story. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I don’t believe I caught your name. I’m Remus. ❞
With a shrug, Sam scribbled down the things he had just sold on a list, and handed the man his receipt. “I don’t mind when people assume it, not anymore. It makes things a little easier most times.”
He missed his Old Gaffer often, especially when he was working. Being there reminded him of all those days spent gardening together. He was a good man, whom Samwise had learned a great deal of his life’s operations from (the rest being from Mr. Bilbo and his own experiences). “I love learning about people, especially when so many here are from strange lands, comparatively speaking. That's really lovely you’re following in her footsteps.” Holding out his hand to shake, a grin on his face, he continued, “Nice to meet you Remus. Sam Gamgee at your service.”

for my love @ofmvoonlight
To say life had been hectic as of late would be an understatement. All of the previous spare time Yennefer had swiftly got taken up upon the appearance of Ciri— not that she was complaining about that. There was something about it that felt innately right, but it kept her much busier than she had been.
Though today, Ciri was at work, and Yennefer had the day all to herself. Her plan was simply to go out and see where the day took her, so after dressing in her ever-so-typical way, the mage made her way into town. It was cold out, but the sun was shining at the very least and her woolen coat kept her warm enough. The day was proving to be uneventful, nothing too out of the ordinary for this place.
Nothing, until she had left the library. Yenna had been distracted, frigid fingers already carding through one of the massive books she had checked out. Being caught up in the prose led her to ramming into someone much too hard, book slipping from her grasp. “Excuse me,” she sneered as she bent down to retrieve the book, speaking as if it hadn't been her fault to begin with. “Maybe you should watch where-- Geralt”
His name was reverie on her lips, as it always had been. The sight of him was overwhelming. Yennefer felt her heart might beat out of her chest any second.
“Geralt, witcher, what in Meletele’s name are you doing here?Oh I'm so delighted to see you.” Arms looped around his neck, a difficult task due to the difference in height between them, she was beaming. Yennefer was pulling him into a kiss, yet stopped an inch or two from his face. Something felt wrong. Something was out of place, and it wasn't on her end. “Are you alright, Geralt? You’re stiff as a board.”

Being home after almost a month felt amazing. It proved once again just how resilient and stubborn Zelda was. The last thing they wanted at the moment was to just lay in a hospital room, staring up at the ceiling bored out of their mind due to the fact that there was nothing she could do in that room. All she could do was lay there and twiddle her thumbs and hope she would get to return home someday soon. And here they were.
Hearing a knock at the door, the former princess let out a soft hum and made their way to the hallway, opening the door and flashing the familiar face a soft smile. “Samwise” she greeted.
The news of what happened to his friend had taken Sam by a major surprise. He hadn’t thought such things could possibly happen here, but there he went thinking again. He thought of Zelda often– if she was feeling better, if she was terribly frightened, how long it would be until she could get back to normal. When she had let him know that she was home and heading in the direction of normality once more, he was overjoyed and assured her that he would be round to visit her as soon as he had the chance.
He made it to her doorstep with a large covered dish of food in hand. It was only polite to bring someone in recovery a bit to help them on their way. When she opened the door, he grinned at her. Seeing her alright and in person took a weight off of his shoulders. “Zelda! Great to see you’re upright and about again.”

At first, Ciri had been… hesitant about trusting others. In the span of a single night everyone she had ever loved was stolen from her. All that had been afforded to her was fear and the knowledge that some mysterious man would help her. Then she had Dara. Then came Geralt, Vesemir, Lambert, Yennefer. People she loved and in turn, loved her.
She shut her eyes as Yenn kissed her forehead, wanting to stay in the moment forever. Calanthe had loved her, of that Ciri had no doubts about, but not like Yenn. Calanthe was blood and fire, who gave hugs hard enough to bruise only when Ciri was truly in need. Yennefer was soft touches and let Ciri hold her close, didn’t comment when tears would eventually bead upon her lashes.
A quick nod, going to collect her gym bag from where it was forgotten on the ground. She didn’t want to stray too far from Yennefer, not when she had just gotten her mother back. “There’s a woman- Tano- she owns the-” Not an inn, what was the equivalent here? “-I don’t know what it’s called. It’s where they put people who don’t have anywhere else to go. I’ve been there about two weeks.”
She readjusted her bag. “If you have the room for it.”
It was an extraordinary relief, having Ciri back. It felt like fitting the final piece of a puzzle in place. Yennefer watched her as she went for her bag, taking in every little difference from the last time she had seen her. The mage had lived an extraordinarily long time, and had seen many beauties in her day, but nobody rivalled the radiance of her Ciri. Nobody ever could.
“If I have room for it? What a ridiculous thing to say. Did you leave your sense back on The Continent, cub?” Her words were light, teasing, in a way she hadn’t spoken for a long time. She held out her hand for Ciri to take, “Come, lets get your things from the not-an-inn, then you can settle in with me. I happen to have an empty guest bedroom which I think will work perfectly.”
There was very little Yennefer wouldn’t do for Ciri. As any mother, she had made her fair share of mistakes in the past, but she worked to ensure she wouldn’t slip up with her ever again. “You’ve been well, I hope?”

Restate your name and living situation.
yennefer | Yennefer Wilczynski. I live in a nice large flat with my daughter Ciri.
How long have you been in Sallow Hills?
y | Thirteen months now, since May of last year.
How well would you say you are handling your homesickness?
y | That's none of your business. I have Ciri and Geralt, and that's what matters.
Would you ever want to leave?
y | Easily, yes.
How would you describe your satisfaction with the town itself?
y | Its alright. There's nothing remarkable about this place that I haven't seen a million other human settlements do before
Any other comments, questions, or other tidbits you would like to add?
y | You all are so nosy, and I would appreciate if you kept your noses out of my business in the future.

She didn’t understand this land, not at all. Monsters and elves were far easier to understand than things like cars and headphones. What she did understand was the way her mother’s hand felt in hers, how things would eventually be alright. Yennefer would die than let anything hurt Ciri. The blonde knew this like she knew her own heartbeat. A comforting, ever-there weight.
“You sound too much like Uncle Vesemir. You might just summon him with those words,” She smiled. Zireael had been a comfort she clung to her first few nights in this town, quite literally. It was proof that everything had happened, that she still had her family, somewhere out there. In a strange world with things she didn’t understand, the sword she knew as an extension of her own body was her solace. “Not a Witcher yet. Never, if Father gets his way.”
Ciri nodded, listening intently. Five months. Yennefer had been without her and Geralt for five whole months. “I’m surprised you haven’t burned the place down. I never thought you would ever work for anyone, the Council included.”
Everything about this town left Yennefer cold, the kind of chill that sank into her bones and stayed there despite any effort to chase it away. Holding onto Ciri was the first touch of warmth she had felt in months. She would do anything imaginable to keep that warmth from slipping from her grasp.
“Could you imagine? I think the sight of a lightbulb would be far too much for him to process,” the idea of the grumpy witcher trying to navigate technology was extraordinarily amusing. “You’ll get there in time, daughter. He just wants to make sure you’re safe, it's a dangerous job after all. Takes years of training. To be without you is a fate unimaginable to either of us. But your work will pay off, I know it will.”
She did know. The Ciri of her time was a bit farther down The Path, and was shaping up to be quite the formidable opponent. From what she could discern, there was no Path to be found here, but she wouldn't be the one to tell Ciri not to practice. They neared the bed and breakfast before long, having been close to it to begin with. “Ah, yes. I had given up on employment in my late thirties, but one must make sacrifices when trying to get the things they want, my dear.”

River had not had much time to explore town since she had arrived a few months back. Her job kept her busy making lesson plans, grading papers, and coming up with engaging activities for her students. She had heard people reference places here and there, and felt it was high time she actually got around to visiting some of them for herself.
Having decided to go to the White Rabbit after work was one of the best ideas she’d had in a long while. Upon entering it was easy to see why people liked the place so much. She couldn’t remember the last time she had been individually greeted when walking into a bar (but to be completely fair— River didn’t remember much of anything).
“Poetry night?” River flashed a smile, “I had no idea. How exciting!”

Having any job kept a person on their toes, but owning a business? Sirius could only imagine how much time that would take up. Keeping busy sounded like an understatement. “Bet you don’t get much time to breathe. I’d say you’ve earned a drink for sure. More likely, you earn one every day for doing everything you have to do.”
Nodding, he went to pour the ale, listening to the customer describe his job. The plant shop? Now Sirius was really impressed. He would probably fall asleep if he was in charge of a place full of plants. Though the uncommon plants part sounded interesting. “I’m guessing you like plants, then? Can’t say they’re high on my list, sorry to say. I got good marks in Herbology, but I think I’d end up killing a plant if I really had to take care of one. Though maybe not if it was an…uncommon one.”
It was with a little laugh that Samwise shook his head ‘no.’ He was constantly busy. There was always something the matter with one thing or another, and it always seemed the moment one thing was taken care of, another cropped its head up to take its place.
“I do like plants, yeah. I wouldn’t be breakin’ my back for the place if I didn't, I suppose. It is a challenging hobby, so I can understand your troubles with it. Certainly takes a lot of patience, which is a gift I’m grateful to have,” Sam took the mug handed to him, glad to have something to do with his hands. He took a sip before continuing on, “It's not hard for me, though. Been doing it my whole life, so it's second nature to me now.”

He understood the sentiment, maybe it would be best to sever ties with Geralt, but he also knew that it wouldn’t last long. “yes, the liqour does seem alot nicer here. and there seem to be many different types aswell, each with unique flavours.and all of the special mixes and combinations of colourful liquids, it looks like an alchemical workshop in every bar.”
Yennefer nodded, being quite happy with the newfound assortment of liquor herself. She was beginning to understand why the pub was so often brimming with people. It wasn't so people could confer and it happened to be the only place in town for such a thing, but because they actually enjoyed the drink and company. She missed The Continent as much as the rest of them did, but Yennefer didn’t think she could ever miss the stench or service or patrons of one of its inns.
“It is indeed,” she murmured as she eyed the colorful bottles on display. There was silence between them for a minute before she broke the tension. “You know, I’ve dreamt up a lot of things in my time, but I never thought the pair of us would ever be stood together lamenting our sorrows over drinks.”

Catra breathed almost a sigh of relief when Midna said she wasn’t from this world either. For some reason, it made xem feel slightly closer to home.
“Yeah, I’m from a world called Etheria,” xe said. “We’ve got magic there, with princesses ands sorcerers who wield it. I’m neither, but I’ve got plenty of my own skills to make up for it… what world are you from?”
Catra looked up at the sky when Midna mentioned it. Xe hadn’t taken the time to notice any beauty here, having been too focused on escaping. But she was right. It was a lovely night, objectively. Xe nodded.
“I guess you’re right. And I’ve faced scarier too. Random terrors in the night were my bread and butter growing up.”
Midna looked Catra over, letting her mind wander about Etheria for a moment. How different was it? What were people like there? Was it as similar to her own world as it sounded on the surface? She dispelled the thoughts quickly, no time to dwell on it.
“The place I’m from is called The Twilight Realm. We’ve got all of those things, and I am them,” she replied. “It’s a place of perpetual darkness, and it's strange to those who dwell in the light, but it's home and it's beautiful.” And I miss it. She knew better than to say that aloud at a time like this, but she felt it in her heart.
Midna kept her eyes on xer as xe looked up at the moon, before mirroring the action. “I was missing someone for a very long time. Someone who meant the world to me. He wasn't dead, but, well, we couldn't see each other. We were separated by a barrier much like this one. Him in the light, and I in the dark. I tried not to think about him too much, but… sometimes I’d liked to look at the moon and think that he would be looking at it too. Maybe that can be the same for you and your person, whoever they are.”
I think I just saw Midna Twili (she/her, cis woman, 34). she’s a canon character from legend of zelda. have you heard she remembers everything from her previous life? she appeared here in February 2022 after restoring the twilight realm from zant’s damage. now she's doing odd jobs around town. still, she does have that obnoxiously funny roommate, scary stories around the campfire, wind howling through the trees, strange sadness as dusk falls vibe about her.
[elcin sangu, see bottom of post for details]
“Tell me… Do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls? They say it’s the only time when our world intersects with theirs… The only time we can feel the lingering regrets of spirits who have left our world. That is why loneliness always pervades the hour of twilight…”
--Twilight Princess
Armes| Can you tell me your name?
“Midna. Oh, erm, Midna Twili. Someone said I needed to pick a second name here. I think. [a giggle is heard here]
A| Where are you from?
“The Twilight realm. Its very pretty there, despite how it may sound, though I may be biased
A| What’s the last thing you remember?
“Ummmm I remember going to bed? I woke up under some tree in this place, which is kind of rude.
A| We have a history of memory loss here. Do you feel as if you may be missing some memories?
“Nahhh, I think everything's where it should be. I cant remember where the **** I put my new sunglasses this morning though.
A| Have you found a job here in Sallow Hills?
“[another laugh is heard] Who needs a job? I have a full trust fund set up here it seems, so I’m all set. I do some odd jobs around town for people once in a while, but that's about it.
A| What was the strangest thing you saw before arriving here?
“How much time do you have?
A| What traits would your friends give to you?
“Funny! [a laugh is heard, but is abruptly cut off] Fair and just, I like to think I’m a well respected queen. Stylish, which I completely agree with. Some would say overconfident, but I don’t see that one.
A| Is there anything else you would like to say?
”If anyone knows where my sunglasses are, I’d like them back. [a long pause] Oh also, Zant can go suck- [Ms. Twili uttered a long list of profanities, which have been redacted from this transcript]
