I think I just saw Midna Twili (she/her, cis woman, 34). she’s a canon character from legend of zelda. have you heard she remembers everything from her previous life? she appeared here in February 2022 after restoring the twilight realm from zant’s damage. now she's doing odd jobs around town. still, she does have that obnoxiously funny roommate, scary stories around the campfire, wind howling through the trees, strange sadness as dusk falls vibe about her.
[elcin sangu, see bottom of post for details]
“Tell me… Do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls? They say it’s the only time when our world intersects with theirs… The only time we can feel the lingering regrets of spirits who have left our world. That is why loneliness always pervades the hour of twilight…”
--Twilight Princess
Armes| Can you tell me your name?
“Midna. Oh, erm, Midna Twili. Someone said I needed to pick a second name here. I think. [a giggle is heard here]
A| Where are you from?
“The Twilight realm. Its very pretty there, despite how it may sound, though I may be biased
A| What’s the last thing you remember?
“Ummmm I remember going to bed? I woke up under some tree in this place, which is kind of rude.
A| We have a history of memory loss here. Do you feel as if you may be missing some memories?
“Nahhh, I think everything's where it should be. I cant remember where the **** I put my new sunglasses this morning though.
A| Have you found a job here in Sallow Hills?
“[another laugh is heard] Who needs a job? I have a full trust fund set up here it seems, so I’m all set. I do some odd jobs around town for people once in a while, but that's about it.
A| What was the strangest thing you saw before arriving here?
“How much time do you have?
A| What traits would your friends give to you?
“Funny! [a laugh is heard, but is abruptly cut off] Fair and just, I like to think I’m a well respected queen. Stylish, which I completely agree with. Some would say overconfident, but I don’t see that one.
A| Is there anything else you would like to say?
”If anyone knows where my sunglasses are, I’d like them back. [a long pause] Oh also, Zant can go suck- [Ms. Twili uttered a long list of profanities, which have been redacted from this transcript]

KATE FINISHED WIPING DOWN YESTERDAY’S FACTOID OFF THE MINI CHALKBOARD SHE’D BOUGHT, and thumbed through her phone for the next one. It was one of her favorite bits of the White Rabbit during Pride Month - getting to share information to the community. When did the first gay bar open? 1936 - Mona’s 440 Club in San Francisco. The bell chiming pulled Kate’s attention away from the board, as she smiled at the woman who walked in.
❝ Welcome! We’re not too packed right now, but be warned - it’s poetry night tonight and I’ve had a lot of people promise to come. ❞

River had not had much time to explore town since she had arrived a few months back. Her job kept her busy making lesson plans, grading papers, and coming up with engaging activities for her students. She had heard people reference places here and there, and felt it was high time she actually got around to visiting some of them for herself.
Having decided to go to the White Rabbit after work was one of the best ideas she’d had in a long while. Upon entering it was easy to see why people liked the place so much. She couldn’t remember the last time she had been individually greeted when walking into a bar (but to be completely fair— River didn’t remember much of anything).
“Poetry night?” River flashed a smile, “I had no idea. How exciting!”

Catra breathed almost a sigh of relief when Midna said she wasn’t from this world either. For some reason, it made xem feel slightly closer to home.
“Yeah, I’m from a world called Etheria,” xe said. “We’ve got magic there, with princesses ands sorcerers who wield it. I’m neither, but I’ve got plenty of my own skills to make up for it… what world are you from?”
Catra looked up at the sky when Midna mentioned it. Xe hadn’t taken the time to notice any beauty here, having been too focused on escaping. But she was right. It was a lovely night, objectively. Xe nodded.
“I guess you’re right. And I’ve faced scarier too. Random terrors in the night were my bread and butter growing up.”
Midna looked Catra over, letting her mind wander about Etheria for a moment. How different was it? What were people like there? Was it as similar to her own world as it sounded on the surface? She dispelled the thoughts quickly, no time to dwell on it.
“The place I’m from is called The Twilight Realm. We’ve got all of those things, and I am them,” she replied. “It’s a place of perpetual darkness, and it's strange to those who dwell in the light, but it's home and it's beautiful.” And I miss it. She knew better than to say that aloud at a time like this, but she felt it in her heart.
Midna kept her eyes on xer as xe looked up at the moon, before mirroring the action. “I was missing someone for a very long time. Someone who meant the world to me. He wasn't dead, but, well, we couldn't see each other. We were separated by a barrier much like this one. Him in the light, and I in the dark. I tried not to think about him too much, but… sometimes I’d liked to look at the moon and think that he would be looking at it too. Maybe that can be the same for you and your person, whoever they are.”
⌘Yennefer and Jaskier⌘
@redainianbard
Yennefer was so over this week. With the whole Geralt situation pressing down on her like a lead weight, she was sick and tired of this stupid town, and wanted nothing more than to be able to make her escape. The nature of the town prevented her, and she hated the place for it.
So she did the only thing she could manage, and kept going through the motions. Work, home, sleep, repeat. In her down time, she would do her best to make herself happy with the little things: watch the television, spend time with Ciri, and occasionally go for a drink when the girl was busy for the evening.
It was one of those nights, she entered the local pub shortly after she had gotten off of work. A drink would do wonders for her aching heart. She had only been in the place long enough to order herself some sort of fruity concoction when she heard him. Singing filled the place. There was no mistaking who the owner was. She had dealt with it for decades now. Turning on her heel, black skirt flowing out around her knees, she looked round for him.
Surely enough, he was making his way round the tables. She wanted to hate the display, she wanted to feel annoyed at his appearance, yet the only thing she felt was relief. If nothing else was normal, she could always count on Jaskier to be, well, himself. She met his eyes while he was giving his little performance, and offered a little smile. Yennefer approached him as soon as he finished; smirking, she raised an eyebrow.
“Bard,” her voice was much less biting than it usually was, almost, nearly, affectionate.
sinnersxonly:
Watching the people in a bar told you a lot about them. Sirius certainly was not nosy, but he liked to converse, and people tended to get chattier the more drinks they had. So he had already heard plenty of stories in his time at the White Rabbit. Which was nice; he liked that people felt they could talk to him, just like he had always been able to talk to his friends. That had helped him a lot, so if he could help others by letting them unload their burdens, he was more than fine with that.
The guy who had just sat down seemed like he had had a day. Even his smile was tired. “Evening. Hope you don’t mind me saying, but you look like you could use a pick-me-up,” Sirius said, leaning his elbow on the bar. “Rough day?”
Differences of people between Earth and Middle Earth were numerous, and sometimes they disturbed Sam greatly. There were a few things which remained the same, though. People could be kind, or they could be rude. Life could be exciting, or it could be exceedingly boring. You go to work, then you went home, and you repeated the motions over and over. One thing Sam was still glad to see was that pubs still filled up when the work day let out.
It was what brought him there, after all, the small part of him that was still holding on to that routine. “I could. Its been a bit of a “day from hell” as people round these parts say. Owning a business can be fun, ‘cept the days when its not.”

Dorcas stifled the giggle that arose in her throat at the word “moogles.” Obviously she couldn’t mock him for it, and she’d never do such a thing. But it still made her want to giggle a little bit.
Dorcas was about to answer his question, before seeing him shift his hand and sharply remembering that she had a job to do here. She cleared her throat.
“Erm, yes, a bit. But first I think I should get this out of your hand first.”
Dorcas picked up his hand gently with her own, and then waved her wand over it with her right hand, muttering a spell. The thorn barbs gently rose into the air out his hand, and Dorcas grabbed a small container off the counter to capture them in, careful not to touch it with her own hand and then fastening it tightly with a lid before placing it aside. She’d like to take the time to study them later.
Dorcas performed a quick disinfecting spell on the wound before grabbing some gauze and wrapping his hand.
“Right, leave that on for the rest of the day, and you should be fine,” she said. “In answer to your previous question, I’d say it’s got similarities and differences. In my world wizards were hidden away from the rest of the world. We kept our magic a secret from non magical people. But here, we can perform magic out in the open and be completely honest about ourselves. Nobody really bats an eye. I really like that part. It’s nice not to have to hide. I’d say that’s the biggest difference, besides there being different sorts of magic and different magic users. Like I know some people who call themselves mages, and their spells are completely different from mine. It’s fascinating.”
Nodding, Sam gave his hand a quick look, as if he had nearly forgotten the pesky things were still there. He was surprised how little effort it took for the whole thing to be done and over with. In a moment it was like nothing happened at all. After looking at his restored hand impressed, Sam let Dorcas work on wrapping it.
“Well I knew this place was all about speedy care, but this has to be a new record,” he grinned.
It was nice to hear Dorcas didn’t have to hide anything here. Secrets were a hassle, especially such life changing ones as she kept. He knew that very well. “It is fascinating! We have magic where I’m from, but as you said the specifics differ greatly to many people in this town.”

Okay, admittedly, Midna didn’t entirely know what she was doing at first. While ruling a realm and being mayor had a lot of overlap in duties and expertise, they surely had their differences. For one, she had to teach herself how to campaign. A whole complicated mess of papers and advertising and public appearances.
Midna wasn’t dumb enough to go in completely blind. She spent a good few days researching it all in the library and via her new laptop. After a while, she felt as if she had a decent footing on the concept, so she decided that she would indeed run for office. She felt like she could do some good for this dreary place, and if worse came to worse, she would have had a fun time along the way.
That's how Midna found herself campaigning in the park under a tiny pop up tent to block off the sun. It was a nice day, which hopefully meant lots of walkers to hand fliers to.
As someone approached, Midna tucked her shoulders back, threw on a pretty smile, and held out a little metal circle in their direction, “Morning! Do you have a second to talk about our mayoral campaign? Want a button?”

Frodo breathed a quiet sigh of relief when he heard the all to familiar voice respond. He felt his face crack into a gentle smile as Sam entered the room. This spurred him into action, as he then continued to walk further into the room, moving to hang up his keys and jacket.
“It went quite well today. Most of the day was quiet, though there was a small scuffle back in the adult romance section, apparently adults can not take turns with books.”
Frodo let out a huff as turned back to face Sam letting out a noncommittal shrug before continuing on.
“On the whole though it was quite the boring day. How was your day Sam? Was work alright?”
⊱ ──────────── {⋆⌘⋆} ──────────── ⊰
As Frodo got situated, Sam turned on the two lamps on the room to combat the darkness left by the slow setting sun. He didn’t fully understand many things about the world they now lived in (electricity being one of them), but having Frodo with him made it all seem a little less frightening.
“A scuffle? Must’ve been a very good book then,” he laughed, combing a hand through his hair. “Nothing you couldn’t handle, I’d wager.” There was a little part of Sam that truly did think that Frodo could do anything. He had already done the impossible, so most other things seemed like a walk in the park comparatively.
After closing the distance between them to press a kiss to Frodo’s cheek, Sam racked his brain for a moment before minutely shaking his head. “It was alright, nothing too noteworthy, other than getting some new inventory in. The best part of the day was when someone brought their dog into the shop. Cutest thing I’ve seen in a while.”
When he glanced at the clock that hung up on the wall, an idea struck him. “What do you think about takeaway for dinner? And before you stress about it, I’d be the one to call.”

Closing her eyes when she felt his arms around her, Zelda could feel herself bit by bit relax. Comfort had always been a foreign concept to the princess of Hyrule. Her father wouldn’t give it to her and neither would her servants. The only one who ever did give her some sort of warmth and love was Link. And yes she loved him and what they had but to get comfort from someone else? That shook them to their very core.
“I just don’t want you to feel like I am taking advantage of your kindness. I am getting better, I promise. I just.. I have bad days and good days when it comes to my still healing wound and today is one of the bad ones. I am sorry for raising my voice. I never wanted to yell at you” they whispered as they shook their head.
Samwise shook his head in a firm insistence of ‘no’ to the princess. He couldn’t feel taken advantage of, not by her. If anything he felt as if he wasn’t doing enough.
“Enough of that Miss Zelda. You’re not taking advantage of nothing. You’re human, and you have human feelings. I know the road you’re on isn’t an easy one, but lucky for you this isn’t my first time helping someone along it.”
He reached for another paper towel, and handed it to them so they could wipe their face. Sam hated seeing them like this— so full of pain and frustration that it brought them to tears. Frodo had days like that, and they had always been the worst. Maybe he should tell them about that. It would pose a good distraction from their own troubles of nothing else.
“Don’t apologise to me. My Frodo was in a very similar position once, though it was his shoulder that was wounded. We were on the road, a fortnight away from the nearest help. I know the pain you’re feeling, but I also know that it’ll be a nasty memory in a little while. Nothing more than that. And as my friend Merry loved to point out: apparently scars make you cool.”
