A Fanfic Writer Appreciation Day rec-list

So, I heard people are celebrating fanfic authors today, and I wanted to take the time to share some of my all-time favorites! (all are Gravity Falls)

Blind Faith, by @pinesinthewoods

Behold, the fic that firmly dragged me into the Gravity Falls fandom! I remember scrolling through GF fics on Ao3 for the first time, and this was one of the very first I read. It’s dark, has heaps of glorious Stan twin angst, and still lingers in my mind to this day.

Towards the Sun, by @pinesinthewoods and @notthistimespock

Out of every single fic I’ve ever read, this one succeeds the most in getting inside the character’s heads. A bit of a canon divergence where, to save Stanley, Ford must confront his brother’s darker side within the mindscape. (Admission: I cried on multiple occasions while reading this.)

Flat Dreams, by PengyChan

I once told myself I’d never feel pity for a triangle. I was bitterly wrong. An amazing imagining of Bill’s childhood, early life, and rise to power… with lots of inspiration from Edwin A. Abbott’s Flatland. 

Stars and Trees, by jikanet_tanaka

A set of small scenes and vignettes of Stan’s life, from childhood to present. All of them are focused on the theme of family, and how Stanley relates to the idea over time. They’re very feels-y and sweet, and characterize Stan so well! 

The Wind in Visions, by @the-stan-twin and @the-ford-twin

Ah, where do I start with this? Probably the most pure examples of Fiddauthor and Mabifica I can think of. I adore the heaps and heaps of Pines family bonding in this and the slice-of-life feel it has… and yet there’s this feeling of something serious building in the horizon, and wow, I can’t wait to see what happens next with that!

Blue Bayou, by The_Lionheart (@icefeels)

The most fascinating take I’ve seen on Ford’s multiverse years. It features a very well developed OC, (honestly one of the best I’ve seen in this fandom), who becomes Ford’s traveling partner. Their interplay is equal parts hilarious and emotional at times, and is very deep without seeming forced. I really recommend this- it could use SO much more love! (It only has about 100 hits… and that needs to be changed ASAP! :D)

The Triboelectric Effect, by @aroford

An amazing what-if centering around the idea of Stan and Ford accidentally swapping bodies on the electron carpet, way back in ‘82…

hey do you know he fic based off the enemy within only spock beams up and its his human and vulcan half and im like 65% sure its AOS but i might be wrong... but yeah sorry thas all i remember about it, i was only one chapter in...

I'm gonna be honest,, I just read fics of the kid!Jon time traveller theme and I got a bit shook when they were all unfinished and I was craving for more. I just started doodling my own version to cope, one with a much more light-hearted and funny tone

And hoping that maybe my drawings might inspire tma fic writers to write more "jon time travels to his 8 year old self" fics,, i love the theme so much i dont mind reading it again and again

1.) Too much time by Hix (180k+ words) - angtsy as fuck,,, super slow burn when it comes to jon’s relationships with others,, my fave one so far. Jon has his memories intact but elias doesnt 2.) Time is Hard by Serazimei (130k+ words) - a bit more light hearted than the first fic,, friendships are formed faster and there are a lot of sweet moments. Elias is forced to remember what he did to jon but has no plans to end the world after

3.) The Timeline of Theseus by Applea (90k+ words) - Jon doesn’t remember anything at all but is still powerful. Elias keeps him around because of his abilities 4.) A break in the clouds by Ash_ Rabbit (107k+ words) - here the real Elias keeps his body and Jonah is in James Wright. His interactions with Jon are so adorable hngg

However, after spending time with Jim, Spock finds the arrangement to be not what he expected.

A young stranger behind the counter whose smile shone brightly was not what he had expected, nor what he needed at 5:03, before the sun itself had charged its rays for the day. The Vulcan stood at the door for five point six seconds before the golden stranger uttered the familiar ‘How may I help you’. Atlas by Angel Baby1 on fanfiction. Rated Mature. Summary: Between what was and what will be stands James Tiberius Kirk, in all his fractured patchwork glory. Because saving the Federation was only the beginning. Eventual K/S

I could totally imagine when Ken arrives to the Ultra's home planet it's gonna be like that awkward feeling where you go to family reunion to the side of the family you never met before. Aunts and Uncles that never heard of you before being all surprised and crowding around and the cousins who already have that bond either unintentionally excluding you and/or awkwardly carving out a space to include you in the plans. And Ken is 26, he's basically the baby too so that's a whole nother thing.

These three are totally the cousins that claim him bc they're the closest in age (and not bc I'm currently watching the series)

And he's a hybrid so everyone is going to have questions, maybe like how is the "human host" surviving or why is he so small or tall depends jk
