I don't know if anyone's said this before, but I'm 90 percent sure that if Rick had written only PJO, no sequels and no short stories, there wouldn't be many anti Percabeths.
Sure, they'd still point out weird moments like Percy 'getting used' to his nickname or Percy's internal monologue about him and Annabeth at the beginning of TLO, but in the end, barely anyone would criticise it.
There is basis for anti Percabeth people in PJO, but it's weak. Their main basis comes from HOO, the sides stories and the new trilogy.
Ok, ok, LISTEN. THIS IS IMPORTANT. I HAVE LITERALLY NEVER HEARD ANYBODY TALK ABOUT THIS, AND I WOULD LOVE IF EVERY PJO FAN COULD SEE AND TALK ABOUT THIS! Does ANYONE ever wonder what Camp Half-Blood was like in the centuries before the 21rst? What about the 15th or 16th century-where did they go then? The concept of a summer camp is very modern, so what was Camp Half-Blood like? Did more demigods stay there? Did more demigods SURVIVE to adulthood because there was no technology? Was Camp Half Blood a sanctuary of some kind-how many demigods stayed there for a full year? And what were the cabins like? Did boys and girls have separate cabins or something? How were Christians and other Abrahamic people affected knowing that the Greek Gods existed? What did girls and boys DO in the camp? How did Chiron manage all of them-how many children filled up the Dionysus cabin?
And Camp Jupiter, what was it like there?
Oh my god, please reblog this! I would like as many fans as possible to see this so we can discuss it! Thanks for reading, and I will DEFINITELY read ALL comments, so don't be shy!
A smaller tragedy in HOO was that Hazel's golden eyes never amounted to anything. Hazel has golden eyes-Kronos' golden eyes-and nothing ever comes of this.
Percy and Annabeth never freeze when they look her in the eyes, reminded of Luke's golden eyes, Kronos' golden eyes. Pluto never avoids looking her in the eyes for this reason. Her eyes never unsettle anyone-the Olympians or the gods. It's a shame that Hazel's eyes could have been a cool minor detail that caused her more insecurity about her looks, but she could have eventually learned to overcome it and take the golden eyes back on her own accord.
One thing that bothered me when I reread The Tower of Nero was Nico only speaking Italian when he's really upset.
Nico only speaks Italian when something really bad has happened and he feels bad........so Italian is associated with something horrible happening.
But why does he only speak Italian when he's really upset? Why can't he just speak Italian normally? What's wrong with it? What's the reason to make him speak his mother tongue only when he's extremely emotionally distressed?
Taken on its own, it's not particularly bothersome to me, but when it's combined with Rick's other instances of racism, it's extremely annoying.
What other Greek mythology based books would you recommend
Greek Mythology based books? Well, if you're looking for stories like PJO, I don't know-
But I would really recommend reading the Odyssey and Iliad, even translated versions of them with easier-to-read language. I would also recommend reading Euripedes' Bacchae and his other works like Medea.

The tagged people will be able to recommend more books like the ones I listed above.
PJO fandom, can we have more of godly parents and demigod children interacting with each other?
Like, give me Ares and Sherman and Clarisse and Ellis interacting with each other (The REAL Ares, not the PJO version, thank you very much).
And Aphrodite and Drew and Piper. IMAGINE THE COMEDY.
And the minor gods with their children? Like, can we have some Hypnos and Clovis moments, or Tyche and Chiara?
What about Demeter with her demigod children? Can someone please give me Demeter being a loving mother not only to Persephone but her demigod children? (Still mad that we didn't get that much info about her in ToA despite Meg being A LITERAL DAUGHTER OF DEMETER).
HERMES? TRAVIS? CONNOR?
Athena and Malcolm need to have more spotlight.
Add more in the comments please.
There's one thing I'm curious to know-
Did the Ancient Greeks view their gods as moral paragons?
Because they did weird stuff, but it was supposed to be symbolic of their nature, and anyway, society had different standards back then so what they did wasn't looked upon as bad.
So did they aspire to be like the gods in terms of morality?
No offense, just a question from me. Sorry if this is odd in any way.

A hill that I'll die on is that Lester had way more character development than Percy, BUT that only happened because Lester was a jerk at first and then became nice later while Percy was nice at first and nice to the end.
You know what Rick should have done to make Athena more sympathetic?
Simple. Make Frederick ask Athena for a child so that he can have an actual demigod to raise and observe, rather like a science experiment or something (which makes him a bad parent, treating Annabeth like a project instead of an actual child, that Rick could've gone into later).
She's unsure, because he doesn't seem like the type to be able to raise a child, but he insists, so she gives him one. INSTEAD OF THE WHOLE NONCON WEIRD MENTAL THING WE GOT.
And then Frederick finds out that hey, kids aren't always the way you picture them, surprise! So he just kind of leaves Annabeth alone and then we get the whole stepmother plot and it continues in canon.
There are definitely parents like that in real life, so it would be more realistic and I think that more people might be able to relate to that.
And Athena guides her daughter and is angry at Frederick for not helping the child enough and with herself not to see how bad he would be at parenting, because she is the literal goddess of wisdom.
I don't want to overshare and I don't really like sharing personal info, but I want to talk about what's happening in my life right now because I'm tired of not telling anyone.
My dad is in the ICU-he went there two days ago-and he had a heart attack. He seems to be stable and he's coming back in a few days (I think). But he's going to be weak for some more time when he comes back and I don't think it's going to get better. He's also been told that he's going to die in a few years and I think it's becoming more and more true.
There's a whole lot more going on in my life that is going to make this situation harder. This year and the next are going to be pretty important for me and what with his situation, I don't think they're going to be very good.
I just want to say thanks for all of your anti percabeth takes. I never really shipped percabeth and I always felt sort of weird about them but I never realized why until I starting reading your posts. I think Rick is way better at setting up ideas and concepts of a relationships than he actually is at writing them. Like the idea of a Percabeth is great but the execution falls flat. There are so many non-canon Percy ships that have great potential and could be much better than canon Percabeth but this fandom is really against shipping non-canon ships (especially if it involves not shipping Percy and Annabeth)
Thank you! Yes, you are absolutely right-Percabeth's concept is amazing, but in the end, the result is honestly less than desirable. There are many moments between them that do not belong in a healthy couple, much less a golden standard one (though you couldn't make me call Percabeth the golden standard at gunpoint).
