grian is afraid of storms but only if he’s outside, they actually find the sound of rain rather pleasant as long as they’re not in it

Grian has pretty bad depression and anxiety. He can usually hide it well, his anxious fidgeting passing as general Grian hyperactivity. He seems to sleep late most days, but the reality is that it’s a battle to find the willpower to get up each morning. No one ever suspects anything, because he’s Grian, their favorite happy prankster. Then comes the back of the mansion. For weeks on end he tries to convince himself to finish it, but gets more discouraged each time his brain doesn’t cooperate. Finally, he just gives up and stays in bed, figuring that even if anyone noticed, they wouldn’t care. Nobody notices at first, because it’s not uncommon to not see Grian around for a while, but after a week, Mumbo realizes something might be wrong and goes to check on him. He flies into Grian’s base to find him in bed, awake but not alert. Grian is skin and bone, tears streaming silently down his face, shaking like a leaf despite the many layers of blankets around him. He barely registers Mumbo’s arrival until there are strong, warm arms around him, picking him up. Feeling comforted, he finally falls asleep. Mumbo walks him over to his own base, places him on a bed, and starts making soup and regen potions.

From then on, Mumbo makes sure to check on Grian multiple times a day. Just to make sure he’s not alone and needing help.

whumpee running a fever and struggling to focus, feeling really weak and unable to do their daily tasks but stubbornly continuing to try, when caretaker pulls them aside to quietly ask if they're alright. when whumpee nods their head, caretaker softly says, "i don't think you are, sweetheart"

cue whumpee dissolving into tears and caretaker bringing them home to soothe and care for them through their fever

Does anyone else know the feeling of not wanting to talk to anyone and to fade out of assistance but at the same time wanting to talk to certain people for hours because you miss them and don't want them to assume your ignoring them and be mad at you so you just end up in a loop of staring at their contact almost crying cause you can't decide if you should text them or not and oh shit now its time for dinner so you have to socialize with your family which makes you want turn into void of nothing but you also love them and feel bad for hiding in your room all day so your trying to stop crying so no one questions your tears when you go upstairs into the kitchen to get some food only to be silent and listen to their conversations and not socialize anyways? no? just me?

i'd like to propose a 5 person version!

a and b are desperately trying to get b and c together while also fighting over d, and somehow manage to date all of them.

I'd like to propose a new poly trope: character a tries their best to get b and c together and in the process winds up dating both of them. Adjust slightly for additionally partners.

Shifting

Before the world split most people were humans, there were Merlings and Avians but they weren't very common.

When the world split and respawns became a thing everything changed. Totems gave you a second chance, but those chances came at a price.

Reforming someones body and putting their conscious into it isn't problem free, sometimes a feature is lost or gained with it, sometimes it makes them weaker or stronger.

Sometimes they forget what you look like, sometimes they forget what you are. Traveling between worlds is the same.

So when the world forgets what you look like or what you are, you can only hope that it doesn't change everything about you.

You can only hope your new features and body parts don't make you unrecognizable. You can only hope it doesn't cause endless pain.

You can only hope the effects are good and not bad.

has anyone had dreams that seem so realistic that when you wake up your very confused on why its not real?

The World Splits

There once was a world, similar to our own, but that world split, leaving multiple worlds that connected together, one of them being empty but the biggest.

So some higher powers decided to make the big empty world a hub of some sorts, a place that people can go and use to travel between these worlds.

now the smaller worlds are called servers, and everyone travels in-between them all the time.

Death and Life

Totems of undying have been around since the world split, they have been giving a second chance to players since one world turned into multiple servers, maybe even before that.

Maybe that's why their magic effects those who don't have one yet, they allow those who have died to wake up in their bed with only memories and scars. They rebuild the body they once had and give them another chance to live, over and over again.

But when their magic stops working on them it lets them move on to be reborn or to leave the world of the living and go to an afterlife.

Nothing can reach to far though. When the split happened Totems didn't manage to reach some worlds, in those worlds you only have one life and no second chances to live it.

Some worlds they do exist but don't give their magic to those who haven't got one. Their magic is weakened in those world, they can't help the players that are so far away. The players call these hardcore worlds.

There are some world where they can still reach the players, but are weaker and can only save them for a certain amount of times.

I love DesertDuo as much as the next 3rd Lifer but if they win Double Life I will not be able to handle it emotionally. They would finally get their genuine true duo win like they wanted in 3rd Life. I don’t want them to win SIMPLY BECAUSE my life would never be the same again

Mazes

Mumbo woke up in a maze, he had walked for an hour, maybe even two. He couldn't find an exit and he couldn't find a difference in the white walls with black lines. He was absolutely lost.

Until the line changed colors, as Mumbo walked the line changed to red. He must be getting closer to an exit, right?

The red line wasn't in some of the paths, so Mumbo didn't go down them. Instead he followed down the red halls until he found something. A chest with a book inside.

The book had words messily written inside but it was still readable. so Mumbo read what the book had to say.

"Don't follow the purple lines. Theyr traps. once you get to a room that has grass you need to stay there, that is the middle. the middle is the ony safe place in the maze, it can't get you ther."

This worried Mumbo, he had thought this was another prank when he woke up, but what if he was wrong?

Was the book telling the truth?

It seemed rushed, was this person in danger?

Was Mumbo in danger here?

Where even is here?

How to write a satisfying ending

I found that writing endings is one of the hardest parts of writing. There has to be some emotion behind it, but how much? And do you make it happy, or sad? Satisfying, or suspenseful? All of these are hard questions that you have to ask yourself even before you start. Here are some tips to help you with your story's ending.

Know what you want

When you're planning your story, have a rough idea of how the book or series will end, or at the very least, what will happen to your main character(s). This way, you can revolve your plot around the character and move things around while the final few scenes remain unchanged.

Try different endings

Experiment with different endings for your story. Will there be a final battle or a grand event? Or is there a surprise ending? You could build the story towards an ending that the readers can predict then change course last minute to spice things up.

Mimic the beginning

Does your story start with a phrase or at a special location? Use it again in the grand finale. If the story starts at a New York City penthouse, you could end it there again in a full circle. If it starts with a sentence that a character says, let them, or someone else of significance, say it again. (This works especially well if the original character says it dies.)

Invoke emotions

In my opinion, the best endings are bittersweet and satisfying. Make sure that the readers feel something, so they will continue to think about the book long after they're finished with it. Some of these books include The Fault in our Stars, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, The Midnight Library, and The Song of Achilles, to name a few.

Allow room for expansion

If you don't feel quite satisfied by the ending and think that you can go further with another undeveloped storyline in your book, or you want to expand the world you've built, you can always write a spinoff series! This was done beautifully in Chloe Gong's Foul Lady Fortune, that continues a few years after Our Violent Ends.

Make it satisfying

Whatever you write, make sure the story feels concluded. Every major plot point should be purposeful, and they should all lead to the ending that feels closed. Make sure that all plot holes are fixed, and anything left ambiguous can be inferred to be left like that on purpose.

This is a bit hard to explain, so it's better to ask beta readers this question when you send the final draft off to them. We have a post called "Questions for beta readers" for more information!

Whatever you decide to do with your story's ending, treat it well and write lots of versions of it until you get the perfect one! Good luck and happy writing!

trying to count the freckles on your partner's cheeks when they're asleep

waking up with their legs over yours as they're stretched out and comfortable

taking pictures after finding your lover dozing peacefully while bundled up in blankets

running fingers through their hair as they snooze against your shoulder

feeling their fingers run through your hair while they lull you to sleep

napping on the couch together

hearing them snore a little for the first time

maybe the snoring is small, quiet and you can't help but giggle since it's kind of cute

or maybe it's quite loud and you realize you plan to spend the rest of your life with this

seeing that they're finding a hard time finding a comfortable position so you pull them into your arms

being annoyed because it's extremely hot out and they insist that they cuddle that night

laughing at their messy hair in the morning

sleepy kisses peppered all over their face

seeing them pout or scrunch their nose a little in their sleep

needing to use the restroom but they're clinging onto you like a koala and you don't want to wake them up

they're sick and finally fall asleep sprawled out on the sofa ..meaning you can sit for a few minutes yourself

apologizing when you call them and hear their deep, sleepy voice answer

pulling them back into bed before they go to work but they accidentally dozed off again and is about to be late

trying not to laugh too loud when you discover they talk in their sleep and say some very questionable things
