Found some old inking pens and decided to have some fun :P
i like ford because he is strange and off putting
As much as I love pondering what the httyd cast modern jobs are and what they do or study in college, we are ignoring the REAL question.
Who falls for the classic Nigerian Prince money scam?
Hiccup: Almost does fall for it. He’s smart but way too trusting of people. He would be suspicious but go along until he finds out it’s a scam either from Astrid or the Twins.
Astrid: Would see right through it. End up sending threatening messages back.
Snotlout: Would fall for it. Before he’s scammed, he brags about becoming rich. Afterward, he ignores everyone for 2 weeks.
Fishlegs: Would not fall for it. Politely declines.
Ruffnut + Tuffnut: Would end up convincing the scammer to actually give them the money. Succeeds.
Stoick: Ignores the email.
Gobber: Would fall for it right until giving the credit card info then scold them over email.
Heather: Would personally track the scammer down. Or would ignore it. There’s no in between.
Dagur: Falls for it. He’s threatens the person into giving him the money back. Gets more than what he gave away.
Viggo: Creates an elaborate scheme that ends up with the scammer losing everything they own, including the money that they tried to scam out of him.
Ryker: Ignores the email.
Johann: The scammer.
I’m only on s3 of rtte so if these don’t sound canon, that’s because they probably aren’t.
Thinking about Edward Elric as the Amestrian Military's specialest little unfireable boy
State alchemists can be fired for underperforming. We know this up front from the likes of Shou Tucker. And this makes a ton of sense from the homunculi's standpoint since the state alchemists are sacrifice candidates, and the homunculi would want to cull the weakest candidates and focus only on cultivating the strongest ones who stand the best chance of opening the portal.
........Then there's Edward. Who's already opened the portal.
There's no need to cultivate him. No gamble taken on whether he's good enough to open the portal. He passed the final test already. Graduated 4 semesters early.
And as such, has a free pass to do Absolute Fuck All.
And I'm imagining how funny this is from like an outside perspective.
Some newish state alchemist who'd only ever read up on the stories of Edward Elric, ready and excited to start their career of being paid handsomely with endless freedom to research and travel and do anything they want in the pursuit of science... surprised and confused to find themselves put on probation their first month for things like "ignoring orders." Which is, as best they had thought, a famous Edward Elric pastime.
Roy showing a slight bit of stress about his yearly state alchemist report, and Ed just snorting and rolling his eyes at Roy because every year HE just hastily does his on the train ride over (canon in the manga, a travesty it was left out of the anime) and it gets rubber stamped. Ed not realizing that other alchemists' reports get genuinely scrutinized and torn apart while Ed is free to turn in whatever absolute bullshit he thinks of 36 hours ahead of time. One year his report was about whether alchemy could be done via dance (conclusion: no it can't) and no one cared. Roy WANTS to tell Ed there's some kind of unknown favoritism around Ed making him literally bullet-proof but Roy has no way to phrase this that doesn't sound like he's just in denial and mad at how good Ed's train-reports are.
Guy from the Internal Amestrian Affairs sector who's responsible for auditing other internal military personel for any suspicious activity hitting about 1 million red flags for Edward Elric, issuing a STRONG and URGENT recommendation to suspend the alchemist pending further investigation into things like "literal bunk-buddies with two members of the Xingese royalty (enemy nation)" and "spent $10,000,000 of his stipend on a librarian to make her re-copy (what he seemed to interpret as?) military records in some extremely transparent effort to unearth state secrets (it was a recipe book but he was literally asking her about state secrets)" and "literally has never once obeyed an order, ever, not even once in his career, and is on public record having said 'I do not care about the goals and protections of the Amestrian Military. I am in fact only pursuing my own interests several of which are diametrically opposed to the safety and well-being of the governing body of Amestris'"
The issued recommendation is intercepted before it even reaches its intended desk. President Bradley himself has taken issue with it and denies it before a single set of eyes has seen it. The President's veto stamp is a terrifying hammer, used rarely, and it is now sitting on the auditor's desk.
The auditor sleeps with one eye open from then on out.
I'm re-watching Dragons: Defender's of Berk on episode 13 Scouldy. Hiccup is discussing the dragon classes he teaches with the twins while trying to encourage and help Ruffnut to train the scouldren. It reminded me of some moments in Race to the Edge when the twins talked about the different people who tried to instruct them over the years. (Example: The wedding axe episode, when Toughnutt failed to complete the Mariage Officiation course) I just had the thought that Hiccup is probably one the few, if not only, teacher that never gave up on them. He always valued the twins and all the riders for their unique qualities. Hiccup is a wonderful person and a great leader.
Wait omg do you want me to credit you or?? Also thanks for this wonderful photo because it is hilarious
I like how most of RTTE is hiccup being a mother hen to his very crazy toddler children.
And then the opposite happens whenever he’s on an inventing frenzy.
Very much inspired by this photo a friend sent.
I need that baby Monstrous Nightmare. LOOK AT IT! JUST LOOOOŒŒK!!!!
Belos is the one most terrifying kids cartoon villains.
But why?
It’s because he’s tangible almost. He’s real.
Let’s break it down.
Belos is human. He can only be seen reflecting ourselves. While other villains are amphibian kings or godly triangles, or even in our own show- a child that holds way too much power, a woman who cursed her own sister, or a witch kid.
Belos is real. Belos is seen everywhere in the world.
Going further, let’s simplify him.
Belos is a religious dictator who says his way is the only way. He speaks for the Titan. And only he can do so. Any who disagree are damned for eternity.
Belos is a human whose core belief is that his race is the superior one. He’s from the 1600s where witch hunting is their culture and to be a seen or side with a witch is a death sentence. He takes this farther by believing that they deserve death and to suffer.
His beliefs and motivations are things that are inherently wrong yet he’s a political figure that people worship.
When he fails to indoctrinate his brother into his inherently evil ways, he kills him.
Belos is a person who goes against every message being pushed in the owl house.
He is against identity. He is a bigoted mad man. He is a religious cult leader. He attempts genocide.
Sound familiar?
Oh wait those are so many of our current government leaders in the world.
Belos is real in the sense that he is human in the sense that his history has happened and will happen again.
And that’s terrifying.
And important.
This mirror of modern times should terrify us. Because belos is only human and so are we.
If this doesn’t make sense, that’s because I’m sick and it’s the next day. This is my own interpretation but please reblog with your own thoughts because this topic is like one of my favorite things about TOH.
Talk to me…I’m a lonely soul…
Anyone else just randomly start sobbing over Stoick's death completely unprovoked or is it just me?
Why there is a Legend of Zelda reference on a game that came out in 1998 for my silly kids cartoon from 2012 I will never know.
Do you think the reason Hiccup is so good at listening and understanding others is because he never got that growing up.
Like Stoick and Valka put their expectations and views on him and never really listened to who he was both as a kid and an adult.
Maybe that’s why he has such an easy acceptance of the twins chaos, of Snotlout need to be important, Fishlegs anxiety, and Astrid’s anger issues and he works through it with them.
Because no one did that for him.
They/themLikes consuming media, art, writing, analysis, and my Ocs.I eat children for breakfast :3
