Dono: I'm using my extra speaking time for a thank you. You've made work something I looked forward to, so thank you Phil from the bottom of my heart. Sincerely, your former QsmpEN update admin.
Phil: OHHH- yeah, I heard about the admins get- like-
Dono: I saw everything. I loved making you all insane, KEKW.
Phil: [Laughs] Nahh, fck off, it was you? It was fckin' you? Makin' everyone lose their sht? [Pointing at the camera] Good job. Good job. Good job. [Laughs] Fckin' hell... fckin' hell... I would just see chat compl- like, they- not complaining, but like, stressing out just saying "It's Crowver, the update account is taking in poems again."
Different clans (including the metkayina) visiting the omaticaya form time to time and meeting Spider. At first they are like "what is this demon doing here?", then they get to know him and are like "Oh dear, oh dear, gorgeous". Maybe after the Sullys flee to Awa’atlu, Tonowari asks about Spider and Jack being a dumbass says that one of the reasons they left was because spider was taken and could betray them. Cue in everyone roasting the shit out of them.
at first, after they got over him being human, they only really know him as the kid who lurks outside the meeting hut door, his golden hair peeking around the corner, with a smile that could light up the world. eventually he gets invited in and he'll stand awkwardly behind jake, always finding ways to be helpful, fetching water or tending the fire, flashing his smile to all the cheifs and tsahiks, bowing his head when he greet them. they think he's fricking adorable, and eventually build up his trust with them, till he finds the courage to sit with them during meetings, joining them after for meals, generally just being at ease with them.
spider is truly the reason some of them travel all the way to see the toruk makto so often, bringing their kids along so spider had someone to play with during the meetings. they feel ashamed for how they had judged him because he is truly the sweetest kid they have ever met, and they often question why jake does not do more to claim him, why the boy does not go to climb on his father like his siblings do, why he addresses him as sir, why he seems uneasy when urged to go back to his family hut to sleep.
then the sully's wind up in the metkayina village, without the boy, and both tonowari and ronal feel a sense of dread in their guts. when they ask where he is and jake says they left him with the demons? they almost murdered him, right there, they genuinely want to turn the family away. but, they want to find spider, and they know that if they keep the sully's around, that gets them a little closer to he boy, gives them a few extra hands to bring him back.
ronal does make a promise to the sully's, when they bring spider home, he will no longer be their child, their pet, their stray. he will be taken into the tonowari family where he'll actually be cherished.
god forbid the other clans, like the ta'unui, recognize and/or find out spider had been taken. they will flip on jake so fast.
For some reason I never considered that looms could be small and projects could be accessible ?? How did you get started weaving and what resources did you use?? I saw some of the work you’ve made and I want to get started learning so badly!! Help!
Yess! Weaving is great because of how accessible it can be!! Something I also only recently realized!
I've been enamored with weaving ever since 6 year old me saw an enormous floor loom in action at a textile museum. Despite my fascination with textiles, it still took 20ish years before I picked up weaving as a hobby. Looms were pricy, big, and complicated. It wasn't until I came across bandweaving that it really felt like something I could casually pick up without committing to spending a ton of time and money. I started with tablet weaving, but have since switched to weaving with a heddle. I've been learning by referencing books, looking up weaving process videos, and a lot of trial, error, and experimentation.
Here's a list of resources for two very accessible types of weaving that don't need a loom:
Tablets can be bought, but are also easy to make at home from a deck of cards, cereal boxes, recycled plastic, etc. You can find a tutorial for creating your own here.
Tablets at Work by Claudia Wollny An incredibly comprehensive book featuring 22 tablet weaving techniques. The book is written in German and English. Highly recommend for the very enthusiastic.
Card Weaving by Candace Crockett The book that got me started. Easy to follow, informative, and much cheaper and easier to find than Tablets at Work.
Elewys of Finchingefeld A great youtube channel for historic tablet weaving.
Rigid heddles can be bought or laser cut, and string heddles are created at home out of yarn/string. They are similar, but offer different advantages. Rigid heddles can be simpler to work with, especially if you're working with multiple sheds. String heddles require a few more steps to open the down shed, but don't distort the width of your warp threads. This allows you to weave further down your warp, and makes it easier to keep an even band width.
Here is tutorial for creating your own string heddles.
Norwegian Pick-Up Bandweaving by Heather Torgenrud The book that I learned from! Focuses on pick-up weaving, but is a good introduction to bandweaving in general.
Durham Weaver has a blog and youtube channel. They tend to focus on Scandinavian style weaving, and feature content on weaving with a double slotted heddle, as well as how to set up your warp.
Backstrap Weaving by Laverne Waddington is a blog packed with information about weaving with string heddles. They tend to focus on Latin American style weaving.
A Spinner Weaver is a blog about inkle weaving, though the techniques can be done off of a loom as well. Inkle looms are among the cheaper looms and are designed for bandweaving.
Poor Ttrong is holding back his friends from killing stupid metcayin teenagers😅
Seriously, the guy is the only voice of reason in this firestorm.
He's just like:
Oh, hell no guys!
And poor Oare hung face down on the ground.😆 Her little brother can be cruel, right?
Reblog In 5 seconds for good luck
Just got done watching Spider-verse and now I can't help but think about Spider as the Pandoran version of Spider-Man.
-) While practicing his archery a mile away from Hell's Gate, Spider is bitten by a strange arachnid creature unlike anything catalogued on Pandora: Eight eyes, a small bioluminescent body, and too many limbs that skitter up his arm too fast for him to bat away with his bow.
-) The pain on his upper arm is searing, cold venom is flooding his system, and his body is shaking. Spider knows he should tell Jake and get himself checked out, but Jake is spending time with his family, and Spider doesn't want to bother him. Instead, Spider stumbles back to Hell's Gate alone, locks his bedroom door, and sleeps for days, plagued by fevered dreams of glowing silk threads covering his entire body in a cocoon and the feeling of being watched by all eight eyes.
-) Eywa does not speak, but he feels her. The bite was no freak accident. It was an acknowledgement. A transformation.
-) The mutation amplifies his strength, speed, and reflexes to rival young Na’vi. He can leap through the trees with uncanny grace, run silently across branches, and wrestle his siblings with ease.
-) Spider hits a sudden, aggressive growth spurt. His bones stretch, he shoots up like a weed, and his posture shifts. He grows into a broad-shouldered, coiled force of nature in just a few days. Norm jokingly asks, "Did Jake feed you a special protein powder?" But Spider just shrugs, quietly avoiding the question with lowered eyes.
-) Against RDA soldiers, Spider is terrifying. He moves faster than their sensors can track, weaving traps of glowing silk webbing that strangle, immobilize, or slice. He’s even developed kill zones in different parts of the vast forest, leading enemies there like a spider luring prey into its web.
-) Spider's methods of killing are precise. He drops from a tree in total silence, snaps necks with his super strength, and webs the body into the trees as a warning. In moments of desperation, he uses a special venom-infused bite passed down from the spider that changed him. It paralyzes instantly and causes intense hallucinations. Some unfortunate survivors go mad from the encounter.
-) Spider takes no pleasure in killing, nor does he look forward to it, but when he kills, it is swift, silent, and deliberate. Spider kills because he knows that every RDA life he spares will cost dozens of innocent Na’vi or creatures. To show mercy is to be complicit because these people will never stop.
-) Even Lo’ak gives Spider a curious once-over and mutters, "You been lifting boulders or something, bro?"
-) Spider wants so badly to tell everyone about his abilities, but he fears that Neytiri will misunderstand and see him as a threat. No one trusts him as far as they can throw him, and as far as Spider is concerned, he's on his own.
-) When Spider connects his webbing to a living thing: beast, plant, even another person, he feels a tug in his chest, a strange warmth in his mind. It’s not language, but sensation. A feeling. Spider’s webbing can read an enemy's next move, like a spider sensing a fly tremble in its web. He wraps it around their weapons, and in that fleeting connection, he feels intention. He dodges before they shoot. He moves before they do.
-) Spider can breathe the air, but keeps his mask on to avoid suspicion.
-) His "spidey suit" is made from his webbing, and he even wears a handmade mask to hide his identity. At first, the mask was entirely blank until Spider decided to draw eight eyes on it, giving him a more intimidating look.
-) The cat is out of the bag when Spider uses his webbing to "heal" Netyam's injury, but that's a story for another day,
