Boss, Y/N. King T'Challa and Vision are at the door.“ FRIDAY says interrupting Tony and Y/N who were working on Rhodey’s leg braces. “T'Challa? What is he doing here? I thought he wasn’t coming back until next week.” Tony looked at you alarmed. ‘Let them in Dad.’ You sign at him before going back to the braces. “Let them in Fri”
“Kitty cat! What you doing back so early?” Tony asked T'Challa as he walked into the lab. “My sister Shuri is making me take a few days off as King.” T'Challa says before his eyes flickered over to you. “Who is this beautiful lady?” He smiled at you, causing you to blush and look back down at the braces.
Tony glared at T'Challa and stood in front of you so he couldn’t look at you. “That’s Y/N. My daughter. Who is off limits to you.” Tony growled. You smiled rolling your eyes behind Tony’s back. Vision smiled seeing Tony being overprotective.
“I just wanted her name Anthony.” T'Challa said. “Yeah right. Just know my baby girl is off limits. No flirting. No touching. No looking. No nothing. Stay away.” You threw your hands up from behind Tony. “Mr. Stark I believe Y/N is trying to get your attention.” Vision tells Tony.
“What is it kiddo?” Tony asked turning to you. ‘Can you stop being an overprotective ass and help me with this?’ You signed at him. “No. I’m not. I have to be.” Tony said as he helped you finish the braces. “Now your catness let’s talk while Vizh takes Y/N to Rhodes.” Tony says as Vision grabbed the braces leaving the lab with you.
'Vizh! He called me beautiful!“ You signed excitedly to Vision as you went to the elevator. "You look quite happy about that. Is that good?” You nodded. 'Yeah. Remember when you liked Wanda…well you still do. That’s how I feel about T'Challa. Since I first saw him.’
“A crush am I right?” You nodded. 'Yeah but unlike you and Wanda he doesn’t like me back.’ You signed. “Do you know that for sure?” Vision asked. 'Vizh he just met me. Plus who would like me? I’m a freaking mute. Shy as fuck. No one could like me.’ You say as the elevator stopped. Vision frowned, looking at you in concern. He did not understand why you would say anything like that. You were very beautiful and just because you couldn’t talk didn’t mean anything. He would talk to Rhodey or Miss. Potts later about this.
“Hey Y/N, Vizh. Where’s Tony?” Rhodey asked as you two walked into his room. “Mr. Stark is with King T'Challa.” Vision says as he sets down the braces on the bed.
“What’s he doing back so early?” Rhodey asked. “I do know but I will take my leave now. I will be back shortly.” Vision says before phrasing the ceiling. “He has to stop doing that and use doors.” Rhodey says causing you to chuckle silently.
….Later (Like three days)……
“I cannot believe he has the decency to flirt with my daughter. Every. Single. Day. Can you believe it Rhodes?” Tony ranted as he paced in the living room. “Tone. Y/N is eighteen. She isn’t a kid anymore. You knew this day would come.” Rhodey says from the couch.
“Y/N doesn’t like him. Right? Rhodey?” Tony asked looking at him. “Don’t know.” Rhodey shrugged. “You lie! Rhodey you know something. Tell me!” Tony pleaded sitting beside Rhodey.
“Tony it’s obvious. Everyone knows but you and T'Challa” “Wait….does Y/N my sweet precious baby girl like T'Challa?” Tony asked Rhodey who looked at the blank television screen. “Oh hell no! No chance in hell!” Tony jumped up from the couch.
“Tony. Leave the kids be. As long as Y/N’s happy that what really should matter.” Rhodey tells Tony. “FRIDAY pulls up the security fee of T'Challa and Y/N.”
A hologram appeared. You were laughing, smiling at T'Challa something you rarely did unless it was with Tony, Rhodey, Vision or the bots.
“Your a truly beautiful woman Y/N. I do not understand why you don’t see what I see.” T'Challa says as he lifts your chin up to look him in the eyes. Your face was beat red from blushing. “He better not or I swear I’m going t-” T'Challa leaned over and pressed his lips onto yours.
“I’m gonna fucking kill him!” Tony yelled grabbing one of his Iron Man hand gauntlets. “Tony! Calm down!” Rhodey yelled after Tony who ran to the elevator.
“I’m gonna roast your furry ass if you don’t get away from my daughter!” Tony yelled as he stormed out the elevator. You and T'Challa pulled apart embarrassed.
Tony fired up his repuslor aiming at T'Challa who jumped out the way. Your eyes widened as you watched your dad shoot at T'Challa.
“Keep your filthy hands off my daughter or else I’ll…” Tony trailed off as he watched crystals travel up his gauntlet powering it down. He looked up at you in shocked. You stood in your mutant form which you never used.
“Y/N…you’re….using your powers” Tony said shocked. You nodded. Transforming back to your normal form. 'Dad I’m eighteen not eight. I’m old enough to take care of myself. I know it’s hard to see that I’m grow up but this is reality. I’ll always be your little girl but I’m just not as little you know’ You sighed at Tony who sighed.
“Fine. But I’m watching you.” Tony said glaring at T'Challa. “Ask my daughter on a proper date.” T'Challa smiled. “Y/N would you like to go out on a date with me tomorrow night?” You nodded smiling at him. “I’ll be waiting with my iron man suit too.” Tony hissed. “Now baby girl can you get these crystals off of me?”
A/N: So I know that I have one more prompt, but this idea came to me last night and I just couldn’t not write it (especially because it’s been a while since I wrote a Bucky fic). So here it is and I may or may not have NOT studied for my Econ test because of this. But I’m quite happy with it.
The first time Bucky slides the file under your door, you’re confused.
You’re alone in your room when you hear the sound of light footsteps and a quiet thud. You look over towards the door and notice the manilla folder, lying inconspicuously on the ground.
You walk over and open it, thumbing through. You quickly realize it’s a complete file on the Winter Soldier–every kill, every mission. You close it and leave your room, taking the elevator to Bucky’s floor.
He’s sitting there on the couch when you enter. He looks up and in the split-second before his face goes blank, you catch a look of…fear?
“Bucky,” you say warmly, subtly putting the folder down on a table behind you.
“(Y/N),” he says, his voice even and unreadable.
“There’s this new bakery that I’ve been dying to try,” you say cheerfully. “It’s a couple block away, and I’ve heard their beignets are amazing. Come with me?”
You look at Bucky. His mouth is still set in a firm line, but his eyes are wide, startled.
“Um…sure,” he says, slowing getting up off the couch. He walks over to you and you link your arm through his, pulling him over to the elevator.
The doors slide open and you find yourself face to face with Steve. He looks down at your linked arms, a smile on his face.
“Hey Steve!” you say brightly. “We’re going to the bakery. Want anything?” Steve declines, and on the way down, you ask his opinion on what you should bring back for the other Avengers. Steve nods and does his best to suggest pastries, but he’s watching Bucky.
Bucky, whose lips are unconsciously curving into what could almost be called a smile. And as you drag Bucky off the elevator and out of the tower, Steve realizes that he can’t remember the last time Bucky smiled.
-
The second time, you’re at a S.H.I.E.L.D. meeting. You’re turning in your report for your last mission, reaching into your bag to pull out the typed report file.
Instead, you find the Winter Soldier file in your hands. You’re taken aback, and for a minute, you forget where you are.
“Agent (Y/L/N),” Nick finally says, bringing your focus back to your surroundings. “Everything alright?”
“Yes,” you say, though your voice sounds distracted even to you. “I’m fine. Grabbed the wrong file.”
After the meeting, you drag Bucky up to your floor for a Jurassic Park movie marathon.
-
The third time, it’s just after a mission.
You and Bucky had gone on your first mission together, just the two of you. It had been particularly successful, and your were quite pleased with the outcome. On the way back, you sat in the Quinjet, humming to yourself and crocheting a hat.
You walk back to your room and it’s lying there on the bed. You stare at it and if looks could kill, the file would have spontaneously combusted within one second of your piercing glare.
But it doesn’t.
The next morning, when Bucky wakes up, there’s a pile of crocheted hats, scarves, pillows and plushies on his desk.
Buried somewhere underneath is the file.
-
The fourth time is early in the morning.
You wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of screams. You look up at the ceiling and you know exactly what’s going on.
You sprint out of your room and into the waiting elevator, taking it straight up to Bucky’s floor. You weave through the hallways until you find his bedroom.
You throw the door open and he’s lying there, thrashing and muttering incoherently. You rush to his side and gently try to wake him from his sleep. This seems to agitate him more and he throws you backward. You hit his nightstand, but get right back up, trying again to wake him. You ignore the sting on your cheek, focusing on calming him.
This seems to work, and slowly, the shaking stops. He lies in the middle of the bed, quiet and still. His eyes blink open to find you sitting on the bed next to him.
He opens his mouth to speak, but nothing comes out.
“Move over,” is all you say and he obliges wordlessly. You slide in next to him, your head on his shoulder, your arm slung over his stomach, and you drift off to sleep.
He lies there frozen in place, his body stiff. After a few minutes, he relaxes and he wraps his arm around your waist, allowing himself a few hours of nightmare-less sleep.
When you wake up, Bucky’s gone. You reach up to your face and realize there’s a bandage there. The bed next to you is neatly made, the damn file resting on top.
You throw the covers off and make the bed. You leave the file exactly where it is.
-
The next morning, you search the entire tower for Bucky. Every room, every floor. You eventually find him in the kitchen, sitting at the table. In front of him is the file, open.
You shake your head and walk over to him. He looks up and spots you, not saying anything.
“I’ve been looking for you,” you say simply as you sit down at the table next to him.
He looks up at you before sliding the file toward you. You shake your head and close it. His hand, almost of its own accord, reaches up and brushes against the bandage on your face.
“I hurt you, last night,” he says, and the pain in your voice makes your reach up and cover his hand with yours. “I could hurt you again.”
“You didn’t mean to,” you reply and he shakes his head.
“(Y/N), I’ve done things…” he says haltingly. “Things I’m not proud of.”
“Tell me that the same thing isn’t true of every single person in this tower,” you reply.
“Have you read it?” he asks, his voice barely higher than a whisper, his eyes darting down to the file.
“I read files on every Avenger when I joined,” you say evenly.
“But this one,” Bucky says. “Did you read this file?”
“No,” you say.
“Why not?”
“As far as I know, the Winter Soldier isn’t part of the Avengers,” you say simply. “James Buchanan Barnes, however, is. And that’s the file I read.” Bucky looks up at you, and you see his expression soften.
“I don’t…” he stutters. “I don’t deserve-”
“Don’t even finish that sentence,” you cut him off. “You deserve everything. You deserve the sun and the stars and the moon. You deserve to feel safe, to have friends, to be loved.”
“But-”
You shake your head. The man will not shut up, so you turn and pull his face to you, silencing him with a kiss.
“I love you, James Buchanan Barnes,” you say. “And don’t you dare ever believe otherwise.”
The huge grin that spreads across his face–tentatively at first, but then unabashedly content–makes you happier than you’ve ever felt.
“I love you too, (Y/N).”

“Alright Lila, just hold it steady now,” Clint spoke gently to his daughter.
The young girl nodded as she held the beginner’s quiver with one arrow notched. A target stood opposite of her just a few yards ahead. Lila took a deep breath before letting the arrow soar. The tip sank a little to the left of the bullseye. Clint beamed.
“That’s a great shot, kid,” he cheered, “Getting better everyday.” “Really daddy?” she asked with wide eyes. He smirked and kissed her head. “Really, princess. Cooper, your turn.”
The slightly older boy stepped up next to his father and sister. Clint smiled before kneeling in front of his son. He gently grabbed the boy’s face, a hand on each side.
“Remember, relaxing is a part of it too, okay?” His son nodded. “You’ll do great.”
Clint stood up and took a step back. Lila held one of his hands as she watched her older brother raise the bow. Cooper kept his eye on the target just a bit farther away than his sister’s. Concentrating, he let the arrow fly, hitting the bullseye. His face broke into a grin as Clint began to laugh.
“You did it, buddy! You hit the bullseye,” Clint cheered, “This calls for some ice cream, just for you Coop.”
Clint continued to ramble on about the mark as the trio headed toward the house. Cooper and Lila were beaming, loving the time they were spending with their dad.

Explosions and gunfire raged around the Avengers. The HYDRA base was heavily defended, but the team had come prepared. They were spread out all over the area, each working on wearing down the enemy defenses.
Nat, get over to Wanda. She’s about to be overrun!” (Y/N) shouted to her friend. “I can handle the situation here.”
As if to prove her point, she used her wings to twist herself upwards, kicking two stray agents into unconsciousness on her way down.
“I got this, go!”
Natasha nodded and ran off to find the mind reader.
“Hey Tony!” (Y/N) called through the comms. “Clint is gonna need a lift in about 30 seconds, northeast corner of the roof!”
“I’m on it.” came the reply.
“(Y/N), what else have you got for me?” asked Steve’s voice.
She paused to fend off an agent.
“Not much, as far as inner defenses.” she yelled back. “I’m still not too great at controlling what I see, and battles are harder to predict since there’s so many variables that are constantly changing.”
“I understand.” the Captain replied. “We’ll just have to face it the old-fashioned way.”
“Right up your alley then, Rogers.” (Y/N) snarked.
“Haha, very funny, Agent X. You’ve been spending too much time with Stark.”
“Well,” she replied, dropping an agent off the roof, “He is my boyfriend, Cap.”
-One Year Ago-
(Y/N) woke in a hospital bed with a sleepy Tony dozing at her side. Blinking the rest from her eyes, she nudged his hand with her own, jolting him awake.
“(Y/N)…” he whispered, sitting up. “You’re okay!”
He smiled, but then it dropped.
“I- I thought…”
Before he could continue, Natasha walked through the door.
“Well, Stark? How is-”
She cut off, noticing (Y/N)’s consciousness.
“You’re awake, I see.
(Y/N) shyly nodded, her uncovered wings nervously drawing closer to her body. Then, she spoke.
“How long was I…”
“About twelve hours.” the redhead shrugged. “You should have seen, Stark, he practically had a meltdown when they said it might be a while before you woke.”
Tony shot her a glare.
“I did not…”
Perhaps it was just her imagination, but (Y/N) could have sworn she saw the faintest hint of a blush dusting his cheeks. After a brief pause, she addressed the assassin.
“I believe you had some questions for me, Agent Romanoff?”
Natasha seemed somewhat surprised by her eagerness.
“Are you sure you don’t want to rest up a bit first?”
(Y/N) shook her head, readjusting her wings as she sat up.
“No. I think it’s time to be honest with you.” she said, glancing at Tony. “All of you. After all, if I don’t trust you, how can I expect any of you to trust me?”
The spy thought about this for a moment, then nodded.
“Okay. But since you haven’t been cleared by Banner or Cho yet, the team is gonna have to come in here.”
(Y/N) smiled.
“Good thing this hospital room is so big then.”
Nat smirked. She had to give the girl some credit for having a sense of humor despite her circumstances.
“In that, case, I better go round everyone up.” she replied.
With that, the spy turned and walked out, leaving the pair alone.
There was a slight pause. Tony cleared his throat.
“So, um…” he trailed off.
“You were worried about me?” (Y/N) teased lightly.
He cleared his throat again.
“Maybe just a little bit…”
She raised an eyebrow, smirking.
“Okay, I was worried.” he admitted.
“But I knew you’d be alright.”
He hesitated, looking as if he wanted to say something else.
“Is the great Tony Stark at a loss for words?” she joked, smiling slightly.
But Tony remained serious.
“Yeah, I guess I am… Who woulda thought, right?” he chuckled, shaking his head. “The playboy billionaire, no strings attached, got caught in a mess of heart strings.”
He looked at her sincerely.
“I play it cool, pretending like I got my act together, but one glance at you and I’m suddenly a hot mess.”
Tony sighed, running a hand over his face.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to dump all of this on you so suddenly… I’ll just-”
“No Tony, I understand. I… It’s the same with me.” (Y/N) admitted, turning slightly pink.
Tony looked up, suddenly filled with hope. He reached over and took her hand in his, grinning like a kid on Christmas day. He leaned forward a bit, closing the gap between them.
“Well in that case, I-”
Just then, the door opened to reveal Natasha and the rest of the Avengers. The redhead raised an eyebrow, taking in their close proximity.
“I hope we’re not interrupting anything…” she smirked.
(Y/N) went bright red as the team filled the room.
“By the way,” Nat added, glancing at Tony, “Bucky just got back from his solo mission. He’s here to meet the new recruit.”
Her choice of wording was quite purposeful. She shot a small smile to (Y/N) who responded similarly. However, her face dropped when Bucky came in. She didn’t panic, but she started breathing deeply as if to calm herself. The heart monitor beeped more rapidly, but (Y/N) didn’t display any emotion.
When Bucky caught sight of her, he seemed confused, as if he were trying to remember something important. Then, his face showed guilt and regret.
“I’m so sorry…” he whispered.
“What?” Tony asked, looking between the pair.
(Y/N) turned to him shakily, her voice unsteady.
“When I was with HYDRA…”
She swallowed nervously, hesitating.
“I knew the Winter Soldier.”
Tony frowned, glaring at Bucky.
“Knew how?
(Y/N) shook her head, unable to speak.
“I tortured her.” Bucky stated emotionlessly, staring at the floor.
“You didn’t know what you were doing.” (Y/N) comforted softly.
He looked up, as if he couldn’t believe that she was so quick to forgive him. (Y/N) smiled, though there was a solemn air to it.
“You know, I never even knew your name… Bucky, is it?” she asked, glancing at Natasha for confirmation.
Bucky nodded.
“I’m (Y/N). It’s nice to meet you properly.” she said, holding out her hand.
He slowly came over and shook with her.
“Likewise.”
Releasing her grip, she sighed.
“Now, I suppose it’s time to tell you all my story… There are some parts that even I don’t know, so bear with me, if you would.
“I was created by HYDRA, scrapped together from some mutant DNA, just because they could. I was meant to be a weapon, but my mother apparently realized the error of her loyalties. She defected from HYDRA and tracked down my father.”
(Y/N) paused.
“I, um… My father and I never met my mother. She died to protect our identities.
“My powers were quite apparent, even towards the beginning of my childhood. My father helped me to keep control of them, but… There were variables that even he couldn’t have predicted.
“I joined a group of people who were like me. Mutants, I mean. I used my abilities to protect humans, similar to what you do here. I was doing something good, helping people. But HYDRA found me.
“I suppose they must have found some of my blood from when I’d been wounded at one of the sites… and they registered it as mine. So they set a trap for me, and that’s how I wound up their prisoner.”
(Y/N) took a deep breath, almost reluctant to continue. She dropped her gaze, suddenly fixatedd on playing with the seam of the hospital blanket.
“That’s… how I met the Soldier. HYDRA wanted information, you see. Wanted to know where I’d been, how my mother got me away from them…”
She took a deep breath.
“I couldn’t…” her voice broke. “I had to protect my family.”
FInally, she looked up to Tony.
“It was the only thing that kept me going, really. KNowing that I was keeping them safe.”
(Y/N) turned to Bucky.
“I never blamed you, or hated you for what you did. Because of my powers, I knew a bit about what they had done to you. You were just as much a prisoner as I was. But in your future… I knew things would get better.”
She smiled a little.
“SHIELD found me and, well, here we are.”
The Avengers, who had been listening intently, remained silent, somewhat moved by what they’d heard.
“You haven’t explained about your powers yet.” Natasha observed. “Why you’re so afraid them, what happened when you lost control…”
“I’d rather not ever speak of that, if you don’t mind.” (Y/N) replied, shaking her head. “It brings up… bad memories.”
The team nodded in understanding. Then, Bucky spoke up.
“What’s your father’s name? We could find him for you. I’m sure he’ll want to know you’re alive.”
(Y/N)’s face grew somber.
“I- I think he’s dead.”
Breathing deeply, she continued, “We had a special bond, you see. I could always sense his mind, but now… I don’t know if it’s just something that HYDRA did, or…”
She paused, struggling to keep her voice even.
“He was already an old man when I was taken. The news of my capture was most likely the tipping point.”
She chuckled sadly, wiping away the tears that had come to her eyes.
“His students used to call him ‘Professor X’… but he was always Papa to me. He used to call me his little Sparrow.”
(Y/N) looked to the Avengers with sudden composure.
“I’d like to think he’d be proud of me if he could see me now…” she sighed, then her face lit up as if she’d just thought of something.
“He would’ve liked you all, though.”
She smiled, glancing down briefly.
“You said you were part of a team?” Steve asked.
(Y/N) nodded. Exchanging a glance with Natasha, the Captain continued.
“How would you feel about joining ours?”
A joyful grin spread across the mutant’s face.
“Well…” she began, “I’m a bit out of practice, but I suppose I could give it a try.”
Natasha smiled.
“Welcome to the team, Sparrow.”

Hi! Can you make something angst of Steve x Reader. Where the reader was falling in love secretly with Steve and suddenly Steve is proposing Sharon Carter in front of her? And since that she just ran away from everything and begin work as one of Fury spy and Steve starting worry about her after she missed for a year? Happy ending please!! And please tag me because I really like your story 💜💜
Words: 1.848
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader
Warnings: Not enough angst, not enough fluff. Little swearing.
Author notes: As usual (Y/N) is your name, (Y/L/N) is your last name. I AM SO INCREDIBLY SORRY FOR NOT DOING THIS REQUEST BEFORE BUT I REALLY COULDN’T COME WITH ANYTHING!! @ilovebeingjoyful knows because I must have told her a hundred times haha! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this :)
You felt how your heart was ripped off your chest, just like in that Simpsons’ scene, when Laura takes out Bart’s heart and tosses it away in the trashcan. You tried to walk away but your legs were stiff and your mind was numb. “… So, Sharon I am here on my knees to ask you a very important question… do you want to marry me?” Steve was on his knee, revealing a diamond ring to Sharon. A loud crash interrupted the happy couple. The glass of water you had in your hand slipped from your fingers and hit the tiles in a matter of seconds. You jumped back when the water got to your bare feet. They both looked at you and you were finally out of your shocked state. Sharon and Steve ran to you to help you gather the shattered glass on the floor. “FUCK!” You yelled “God I am so sorry guys, I didn’t see you were here” You hurried to apologize as you picked the wet bits of glass from the floor “Pease, don’t mind me” “You’ll hurt yourself (Y/N)” Sharon said in a motherly manner, helping you pick up the pieces “Go put on a pair of shoes” “No biggie” You faked a smile “By the way, congrats guys, I heard the last part. I’m sure you will be extremely happy together” After apologizing for the hundredth time. You ran back to the kitchen trying to keep the tears inside your eyes. The pointy glass didn’t hurt as much as seeing Steve proposing to Sharon. You knew you should have said something first. You were hopelessly in love with the soldier and you knew in your heart you would have made a better wife than Sharon. Yes, she was in love with him too, and apparently she was way prettier than you, but no one knew Steve the way you did. You used your spy abilities to cover your feelings and to shove them in the back of your mind and calmly made your way to your room. You took your phone from its charger and dialed the only number who could give you some peace of mind. “Fury, you still got the job?” You asked immediately after the other line picked up and nodded at his answer “Count me in” You cried your heart out after throwing your phone on the bed again. It literally felt like someone threw a stone at a wall made of glass. Maybe het glass shattering before was a way to explain how you felt, a very literal way. You didn’t want to see him ever again. That same night you packed only the necessary; your uniforms, your favorite Colt M1911, mags, a knife and of course, normal clothing for the everyday girl you were. Without looking back, you took a jet that awaited for you at an hour that everyone were supposed to be fast asleep. But only one night owl was there to see you. After a few weeks from your disappearing, Steve started to wonder where you were. Since you didn’t show up for training or you were not even invited to the parties or gatherings Tony hosted once in a while, the super soldier began asking around the team but no one really knew where you were. You left without major warning and everyone thought you’d come back soon. Maybe you were assigned to a tough mission or something like that. Sam was the one who was most calmed about your whole missing state; he knew about your whereabouts and he had a mission of his own: to never tell Steve about you or the reason you truly left. “No one knows about (Y/N)?” The blonde soldier asked after training “Seriously?” “Steve, she must be gone for a reason” Sharon soothed her soon-to-be husband caressing his shoulder “Whatever that reason is, we must respect it” “She can be dead by now and we wouldn’t know” He pointed out “None of you care about her anymore?” “Steve” Sam interjected “Calm the fuck down. She’s fine” “How can you be so sure?” “Steve, if Sam says she’s fine, we better trust him” Sharon agreed. “What the hell is wrong with you two?!” Steve stormed out of the training room and left her fiancée and best friend with a puzzled expression. Steve missed you more than ever. He needed you. “We’re going back to the States, agent (Y/L/N)” Fury said “We have the flight in a few hours” You were enjoying breakfast in the gorgeous Thera, in Greece. Your job had been over for a month now and you suggested to go on vacation until something came up, and the beautiful island was the perfect destination to lay low for a while. After a year of being everywhere and fighting everyone, you deserved to rest. You missed home, you missed Sam, and you missed… Did you? In this whole year of being away your mind was so full of things that Steve was not even a thing to think about, not even when you slept, so for that reason you weren’t truly sure if you were still in love with him. Maybe you weren’t, and that was a good thing. “Is there a reason for that?” You asked, munching a mouthful of pancakes. “I miss home” He answered simply, going back to his orange juice “Do you have a problem with that?” “No, sir” You replied coldly. It’s not like you had any problems with going back. You thought it would be nice to stop by and check up on everyone’s life, but now that you deeply thought about it, seeing Steve might trigger something inside you. The last time you saw him he was proposing to Sharon, what was going to be now? A tiny blonde kid running around? Were you even ready to see him after a year of being out? Surely you could fight bad guys and everything you encountered, but having avoiding your feelings for so long made you quite reluctant to face them again. Perhaps Fury did things for a reason. “Fury, can I ask you something? You said after a long pause, but still not daring to look at him “Why did you think of me for this job? Natasha was better qualified for this” “Do you want me to lie or you prefer the truth?” “I think I deserve the truth” You leaned your back on the chair’s back and put on your glasses. “I knew how madly in love you were with captain Rogers, and I also knew that he was going to propose to Miss Carter. I care about you (Y/N)” He sighed “You’re at your best when your mind is off from the things that hurt you… And he hurts you, everyone but him could tell” He wasn’t even looking at you but you were sure about his words “You needed the distraction, I needed an agent… You will thank me later about this” “Will I?” You asked, his response was only a careless shrug. A private jet was waiting for you after getting things ready. It had no sign whatsoever of being one of Tony’s or SHIELD’s. You looked at the clear sky and silently said goodbye to the beautiful island and got your mind ready for confrontation. The few hours of flying were not enough to keep your mind in peace. Upon arrival, Sam, Steve and Natasha gathered to welcome you back. Natasha ran off with Fury while you stayed with the veterans. Sam updated you a little bit on how things were around the facilities and Steve silently looked at you and observed every little thing you did. Sam headed away after noticing he was being a third wheel. “So, how’s everything?” You asked “How’s the married life?” “I don’t know about that” Steve laughed loudly “I’m not married” “God, I’m so sorry” You hurried to apologize, causing Steve to laugh even harder. “I’m not sad. I mean, kind of. Sharon broke up with me… She knew that after a while, I was not completely in love with her” He shrugged. “Well, that’s not so bad” You shrugged too “Poor Sharon though… She seemed really in love with you when I accidentally walked on you two” “Yeah, but she didn’t seem so in love when I walked on her and one of the new recruits having sex in my bed” He rose his eyebrows and pursed his lips “Anyway, enough of me already. How was your year? Where have you been?” “I’ve been everywhere, to be honest with you” You sighed “Fury has kept me quite busy and I appreciate that… I needed some time out, to clarify my thoughts or at least to keep my mind away from things” You bit your bottom lip before giving away too much information. “I saw you leaving that night… I wanted to go say goodbye but it didn’t seem like a good thing to do” “It wouldn’t have been either” You two remained silent as you walked carefree around the facilities. It wasn’t very changed, but it felt different from what it before you left. It was not like going back home at all. You felt slightly uncomfortable, and things were about to get worst. “(Y/N) answer me with the truth, why did you leave?” He grabbed your arm and forced you to look up to him. “Fury needed me for a job” You shrugged, you were not exactly lying “And I said yes” “But what made you leave so silently. You never told any of us about this job, and you didn’t say goodbye. And why is that you casually left when I proposed to Sharon? Why that day? Why not any other given day?” “Because I knew that if I stayed here I wouldn’t function anymore. Fury knew it as well. He said that I was in my best when nothing hurt me” “And what hurt you?” “You did, Rogers” You bit your bottom lip to keep it from shivering “I was so desperately in love with you that… You remember when I broke the glass?” He nodded silently “My heart felt like that too. I know it was my fault for not saying it before, but you were with Sharon and you were so happy with her that whatever I said would only cause trouble and that was the last thing I ever wanted” You took your hand to your hair and ran your fingers through it “I might have loved you, but I still wanted you to be happy…” “You loved me? Past tense?” “Undefined tense” You replied “You said something about… Not being completely in love with Sharon… Are you in love with someone else?” “I thought I wasn’t but… You were gone and I guess… You never know what you have until it’s gone” “You love me?” He replied with a smile and a shrug “It might be too late” You warned. “But we can try anyway” He caressed your cheek with his thumb as you kept walking.
