Self knowledge and the heroic element go hand in hand as it seems. Each trial or new feat demands a further expansion of the self. And who is more representative of this prototype than Hercules? Hercules is complex, multidimensional, his grandeur is shown early on but his ego doesn’t trap him, he doesn’t become self-conceited; he endures new tests and challenges no matter what, he accepts aids, he doesn’t stay fixed in what he already knows about himself, he evolves.
