That awkward moment when Batman is an interruption in the legal procedures of crime solving...
TBH from what I’ve seen on Gotham I get the sense that the GCPD doesn’t actually care all that much about the chain of evidence and whatnot, but maybe Gordon’s working on turning things around.
Gotham City Forensic Files (x)
Oooh, I hadn’t necessarily considered the Bruce/Martin parallels in Gotham... Very clever. I do hope we get to see more of Martin in season 5, though I know things are a bit squished.
THE SON OF GOTHAM // THE PRINCE OF GOTHAM
I love when a gifset is epic and powerful, and then you look up the song that it’s set to and it just gets that much more epic and powerful with the music sweeping behind it. I’ve found some darn good songs from gifsets, too. This set is just wonderfully done.
I can’t decide if I want El to get her powers back in season 4, or if it would be better for her to be free of them... I mean it’d be nice to have them back, but maybe she’s safer without them...

fandom is so weird you never know how old anyone is but you just kinda assume most of them are around your age until proven otherwise and then one day someone is talking about their 9 year old kid on your dash and another person is saying they just finished 10th grade. wild.
So I know it’s late November and everyone has pretty much moved on to Christmas and such, but I’m somewhat slow with processing things and I still wanted to share my Gotham-themed trunk that I did for my church’s Trunk-or-Treat this Halloween. It’s the first year I’ve gone so specific with a theme, but I got so obsessed with Gotham over the summer that I couldn’t help myself. So, I decided to make my trunk into the Iceberg Lounge (circa early season 4, though my Penguin costume is more season 3-inspired).
I’ll probably do a few separate posts, actually, just to break down all the different parts and how I made them, but here are some general pictures of my trunk and myself in costume. For anyone who doesn’t know, Trunk-or-Treat is a thing some churches, and other organizations, do where a bunch of people line up their cars in a parking lot and decorate their trunks. It provides a shorter, safer trick-or-treating route for parents with young children or anyone who doesn’t want to go house to house, and it’s also a way for people like me who live way out in the country to get trick-or-treaters. (Speaking of living out in the country, I did wash my car the day before this, but living on a gravel road, the dust always comes back...)
My Iceberg Lounge trunk, in brief, included purple umbrella lights fixtures, a frozen Ed-berg, penguin statues, and Oswald’s shiny orange bar counter. For my costume, I wore a fancy suit (obviously, haha. I also learned it’s really fun to shop for menswear). I even found a wing-collared shirt like Oswald wears in late season 2/season 3. I knew I would never be able to get a wig into proper disco vampire form, so I decided to wear Oswald’s bowler cap; I still probably didn’t get the wig trimmed short enough on the sides (I bought a basic black bob wig at Walmart and trimmed it) but I’m pretty pleased with how the spiky bangs turned out. Naturally, I also found myself a nice long, black umbrella to complete the look :)
I was really hoping that at least one Gotham fan would come through and get it, and I could point to my icy Ed and go “look! I even have Ed!”, but alas, no one did. One family did a Batman-themed trunk and I strolled over, as in character as I could manage, to introduce myself, but I did have to explain my costume to them. I was fairly happy, though, that at least a couple of people did get that I was the Penguin (”let’s see, purple parasols and birds... you must be... the Penguin?” guessed one gentleman). Anyways, now I’m posting it here, so hopefully some Gotham fans will see it and appreciate my theme!
So my mom and I picked back up watching A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix the other day, and for the most part, I really do like it and I agree it’s a highly faithful adaptation of the books (though admittedly it’s been a while since I read them, but from what I recall, the series is doing quite well).
But one thing did bother me: their Lemony Snicket is not at all like I pictured him. No hate to Kronk; Kronk is doing a great job being the Lemony Snicket that he is. But like I said, he’s just not at all how I saw the character as I was reading him.
For one thing, given that his name is “Lemon-y”, I pictured him as blonde, perhaps strikingly so. For another thing, I just got the sense that book Lemony was a touch more shy and awkward, and I pictured him as a rather wiry kind of guy--not completely scrawny, thin but tough. That is to say, less strong-shouldered than Kronk. And recently, after a bit of thought, I realized that the Lemony I was picturing as I read looked more or less like a young Tom Petty.
I could just see Tom, fedora nestled on his soft blonde hair, hanging about libraries looking for clues regarding missing sugar bowls and odd, question-mark shaped creatures, penning lengthy coded love letters to a woman who regrettably cannot marry him, and watching grimly from the shadows as a number of dismaying tragedies befall that woman’s orphaned children. He has the perfect lemon-y hair, a suitably wiry frame, and just the right amount of quirky awkwardness in his smile, I believe.
(To clarify, I don’t think Tom’s deep, Southern speaking voice would necessarily suit Lemony, just his physical appearance, so this is just for the sake of visualization.)
And so, I present to you, young Tom Petty as Lemony Snicket. Well, really just a series of photos where he looks how I would picture Lemony as looking; I haven’t edited them or anything, just arranged them.
Anyways, young Tom Petty is just generally adorable and full of subtle swag. It’s always fun to look at pictures of him.

I should probably mention the main reason I was in a space pirate mood today: Skyvault. As a kickstarter backer I got to preview the pilot yesterday and today, and I am feeling all of the hype--I want to binge it but the show doesn’t even exist (beyond what I’ve seen) yet!
[I ramble at length about my experience of and feelings about Skyvault below, with somewhat of a pilot review mixed haphazardly in. There shouldn’t really be spoilers but some may consider some of it as such so read with caution.]
I mean, to be fair, I knew a great deal of the pilot’s plot before seeing it, mostly from watching all of the Q&A’s Door Monster’s already done on it, and also partly from the audition scenes I got to read when I auditioned for it... a year ago already I guess, wow. Time is weird. (I didn’t get a part in it, if you were wondering, but looking back on my audition tapes, they were kind of a train wreck and I have definitely come a ways as an actress in the past year, though of course I have a ways to go.)
But yeah, it’s pretty cool having the forbidden knowledge of the audition scenes--obviously I won’t say much, but when Ian mentioned in the Q&A that Truman’s favorite soup would become a plot point down the line I actually had a pretty good idea what he was referring to, and (assuming I’m right) that was 100% my favorite scene to read for (even though I wasn’t actually in the age range of the character I was reading and so in terms of professionalism I probably shouldn’t’ve included that in the audition, but pretending to be that old woman was also the best acting I did so there were pros and cons.)
But yeah, that’s just to say I did already know a significant portion of what the pilot would be before watching it, which is probably why I must admit I felt like not a ton actually happened in it plot-wise. There were also definitely things I wanted to see developed more in depth--Jay’s relationship with his friend and worldbuilding stuff in particular. It did feel like it moved a little too quickly, although as Kyle explained in the Q&A the pilot isn’t going to be exactly how the first episode will be if/when they get picked up but rather a summary of the show which they’ll use to help sell it, which is reassuring. So, its main weaknesses for me were plot depth, pacing, and world-development, and I have confidence that those were either influenced by my knowing too much ahead of time, or among the things that they’re already planning to fix going forwards, so I think hopefully my current critiques of it will dissolve with time. It really just deserves to be a longer first episode than it was so it can develop itself better.
The best thing about the Skyvault pilot, I’d say, was the characters. I fell instantly in love with both Jay and Truman. At one point I referred to them both as “shards of my soul”. Jay is delightfully enthusiastic about everything and addicted to adventure; he is far too happy in the face of potential death. He’s the hero who has completely idealized and romanticized adventure and is just so deeply in love with it that he plunges headlong into danger and grins in the face of death traps.
The only character I may love more than Jay is Truman. I said right away that he reminded me of a live action Milo from Atlantis, and in the Q&A they told us that Milo was one of the main inspirations for the character other than Ian (acknowledging my comment while doing so, which always feels great). Being deeply in love with Milo and all awkward adventurous academics, it was inevitable that I would love Truman, and he certainly did not disappoint. I don’t want to spoil it, but there’s a reveal with him that is brilliant and hilarious and beautiful. I also love how they’ve already displayed his internal conflict between earnestly wanting adventure and discovery versus his tendency towards fearfulness (“I’m done being safe.” vs. “The things we do are extremely dangerous.” “How extremely?”).
To put it in Harry Potter terms, Truman is my inner Ravenclaw and Jay is my inner Thunderbird, and I love them both dearly.
I will admit I don’t relate to Kat nearly as much, but I’m sure I’ll come to love her as time goes on. There was already a moment when she and Truman touched hands and I’m such shipper trash that I’m already fully prepared to ship it, haha. I mean I’m still flexible on ships at this early stage, but like, I’m ready.
They’ve also done a great job with kickbutt female characters and diversity. There are already several women who display a range of strengths in different ways but who are all capable of handling themselves, and it bodes well for an epic series.
It also has, of course, that signature Door Monster humor. The actors have done a good job of being characters based on the Door Monster cast but not exactly them, and the whole thing has DM’s signature inventiveness and I am so ready to find out more.
And, yes, as I stated, this is primarily what caused me to go on a space pirate bingeposting spree today.
Anyways, this review, like my Skyvault audition tapes, is a bit of a trainwreck, but I am now too tired to edit it properly so for now I’m just going to toss it into the merciless void of the internet.
New official poster for Skyvault as the pilot enters post production
They may be villains, but they’re polite. Polite in a ‘general threatening gesture with a firearm’ sort of way, haha. Oswald is a good evil boi.
This scene was so funny, though :)

There’s so much gorgeous fanart on this site. I really need to reblog more of it.
This is one of those fan artists from whom I have many works saved in my personal obsession folder and whom I’m super excited to have found and followed since making my tumblr.
Also, I love the idea of the Doctor going around and giving his companions Christmas presents :) Perhaps it all started with that red bicycle he took back to Rose when she was 12; perhaps it’s been going on much longer, because it’s fun to imagine with the classic companions as well--the Doctor dropping by Gallifrey and reluctantly leaving Leela a nice new knife, or more likely a yo-yo, and the like. (I’ve just started watching Leela’s run in the classic series and I think she’s on my top 10 list of companions, if I could possibly make such a thing.)
I love how even the ‘round thingies’ are red and green and how the lights are around the big branchy bits as if that’s the tree. It’s really just such a gorgeous art style, and I love seeing what the Doctor’s up to in his holiday downtime :)
I humbly beg forgiveness for the lateness of this. I had no idea when I signed up for the @dwsecretsanta gift exchange that a month later I would be offered a shiny new job that would swallow all my time. I am so very sorry about that.
This is for @nightfellart , a very TARDIS Christmas with Ten, enjoying a mug of creamy cocoa, en route to deliver gifts to his companions in time and space. I hope you had a very nice holiday this year!
He has had many excellent hairstyles but the long red hair is definitely my favorite. It looks so soft :)
I also like how they’re all going under the backdrop like it’s their blanket fort, hehe.
Gerard is such a diva I just love him.
