Erik/ the Phantom of the Opera personality type: INTJ 4w5
Myers Briggs: INTJ
Ni: Erik is excellent at predicting future outcomes. He always knows what people are going to do next and is a meticulous strategist and planner. His primary focus is making his personal artistic vision come to fruition, which is having his opera performed with Christine as the prima donna. He is intuitive about what people are thinking and what their motivations are.
Te: Erik is efficient and practical. He becomes frustrated when he believes other people aren’t doing their jobs adequately and manipulates everyone at the opera house in order to accomplish his goals. He can be ruthless when it comes to accomplishing his goals and will even harm others to make his point, like with Joseph Buquet.
Fi: Erik doesn’t have many people he cares about; he really only cares for Christine. Erik’s Fi is immature and so he is prone to outbursts of emotion. He does not regulate his emotions very well due to having been rejected by society his entire life.
Se: Erik is agile and skilled in combat. He is a skilled swordsman and holds his own against Raoul. He can sometimes be impulsive, but usually his actions serve to help him achieve some sort of goal.
Enneagram: 4w5
Erik is emotional and intense. He expresses himself through his art and his artistic vision is based on himself instead of what he thinks will please others. He is authentic and individualistic, and moves to 2 in times of stress. When he fails to win Christine’s love he kidnaps her and tries to manipulate her into choosing him over Raoul. Erik is also very knowledgeble and uses his various skills to protect himself from the outside world.
Instinctual variant: sx/so
Erik’s primary concern is that he wants to be loved and in a relationship, and becomes obsessed with Christine for this reason. He uses his music to express his sexuality and desire for intimacy that he has never been able to experience due to his appearance. Erik wants to be accepted by society, but has never felt acceptance due to his appearance. He wishes for people to show him kindness and when he is finally shown kindness by Christine, he finally demonstrates an ability to show compassion.
Temperament: Melancholic Choleric
Erik is an analytical thinker and a deeply emotional person. He wants things done right in the opera house and becomes annoyed when he believes people to be incompetent. He is also efficient and can be bossy and demanding of the managers in the opera house. He is very particular about how he wants things done and becomes frustrated when people do not listen to him. He can be blunt with people when he feels they are not doing things correctly.
Klaus Mikaelson from the Originals Personality Type:
Myers Briggs: ENTJ
Te: Klaus is efficient and practical, and becomes aggravated when others do not live up to his standards of efficiency. Klaus is also very goal oriented. He does not remain inactive for long and is always trying to find a means to get whatever it is he wants. He will often act on his own instead of following his siblings’ plan because he believes his way is more efficient. Like in season one when he saves Marcel instead of following the original plan he and Rebekah concocted to save Elijah.
Ni: Klaus is adept at strategy, as Rebekah puts it “there is none more diabolical.” Klaus always develops a plan before acting. He rarely goes into battle without a strategy. He is also very intuitive about people and knows how to manipulate their emotions. He uses his insights about people to his advantage and hardly misses much.
Se: Klaus is very strong and a great fighter due to being the only Original Hybrid. Klaus generally prefers to plan ahead, but can still be very impulsive should the situation demand it. He is great at reading a situation and responding accordingly.
Fi: Klaus cares about very few people, specifically his family. He does not trust others easily and lets few people into his heart. He struggles to connect with people other than his loved ones, who he would do anything for. Klaus is not very ethical, and it takes having a child to finally make him a better person. He does care about the werewolves because he is one of them and feels a connection to them, and is repulsed when he comes across the vampire purists.
Enneagram: 8w7
Klaus believes that the only way to protect his family is to acquire power. He spends the entirety of the Originals vanquishing enemies that could be potential threats to his family. He establishes power in New Orleans because he believes it will protect his daughter from those who would harm her. He can be aggressive and controlling, but the best in him is brought out by Hope, who helps him move to 2. When stressed, he becomes paranoid and secretive at 5. He can also be hedonistic and thrill seeking, as he bores easily.
Temperament: Choleric Sanguine
Klaus is a task oriented, driven individual who is very focused on getting things done. He believes he must be in charge because he believes is the only one who can get things done effectively. He also has a need to be social and can be quite charming, and sometimes very impulsive.
Scream: Jill Roberts: INFJ 3w4
Myers Briggs: INFJ
Ni: Jill is a detailed and methodical planner. She carefully plans every bit of her murder schemes, to the point of providing forensic evidence at the crime scene to make it appear as if she were the victim instead of the killer. She plans for every detail- like planting evidence in Sidney’s car to keep her in town long enough to pull off her plan after the first killing and she has Charlie call her as Ghostface in order to remove suspicion from herself.
Fe: Jill wants to be loved and seen as “the star” instead of Sidney. She is jealous of Sidney’s fame and plans to kill her due to this jealousy. She manipulates the emotions of those around her, pretending to be afraid or empathic in order to win others’ sympathy. She is good at pretending to care for her friends, always saying the right thing when they need her to, despite not actually caring about them. She is an extremely unhealthy Fe user, using deception and fake compassion to get what she wants, which is her NiFe end goal of being famous.
Ti: Jill is very inquisitive and intelligent. She is methodical in her murders, especially in faking her own near murder, providing Ti evidence for her supposed attack, in order to bring her Ni goal into fruition. She is cold and logical, knowing what details to manipulate to present herself as the victim.
Se: Out of all the killers in the Scream franchise, Jill comes closest to actually pulling it off. She plans everything down to the smallest detail, but struggles when things don’t go according to plan. When Sidney survives, Jill realizes she has to act fast and kill her before she’s caught, but is very sloppy with the way she goes about it, and in the end this leads to her downfall.
Enneagram: 3w4
Jill is popular and well liked at her high school. She knows how to charm people and get them to like her. She also craves nothing more than to be famous, and will do anything to get there, even kill her own family. Jill tells Sidney, “I don’t need friends, I need fans!” after Sidney confronts her for killing all her friends. Jill wants to be loved and famous for being a “hero,” even if she has to lie, scheme and kill to get there. She even kills her partner in order to be the sole survivor, or the “star.” She also wants to be seen as an innocent victim, which is why she says to Sidney about how to get famous that you just need to have bad things happen to you. She equates being a victim with being special, as an extremely unhealthy 4 wing. She wears it like a badge when she’s wronged, and believes herself to be the victim when her boyfriend dumps her to the point of killing him.
Heathers: Jason “JD” Dean: ENFP 4w5
Myers Briggs: ENFP
Ne: JD is creative and good at improvising. He figures out a way to cover up Heather Chandler’s death after impulsively tricking Veronica into killing her. He is intuitive about other people’s motivations and uses this to make his cover ups seem realistic. He makes Heather Chandler’s note emotional and believable, playing upon people’s emotions so they don’t suspect her death was really a murder. He paints Kurt and Ram as lovers by providing “evidence” that he thinks people will believe, because “this is Ohio.” He makes broad connections and knows how people think.
Fi: JD is individualistic and authentic. He refuses to change himself for anyone at his school, and thinks Veronica should do the same- like when Veronica compares being popular to having a job and he says “Maybe it’s time to take a vacation.” He has a tendency to self- project, and believes Veronica really wants to harm the other students because he does.
Te: JD takes a methodical aproach to covering up his murders. He gathers “evidence” for Kurt and Ram’s “suicides,” and efficiently executes these murders. He successfully plans the murders and finds a way to manipulate Veronica both times.
Si: JD doesn’t pay much attention to the past or traditions. When Veronica asks if he likes his father, he says he never really thought about it. He does, however, feel a strong connection to his mother, even though she died when he was a child. He deep down feels unloved, likely due to his mother’s suicide, and finally admits to Veronica at the end of the film that this is the real reason why he wants to blow up the school.
Enneagram: 4w5
JD is quirky and individualistic, and somewhat of an outcast at his school. He hates the bullies at his school because they bully other students for being different, something JD can relate to. He feels unloved due to the suicide of his mother when he was a child, causing him to lash out and eventually murder other students. He is focused on his inner pain due to his negative life experiences. He is also very intelligent and knowledgeble, and uses this knowledge to aid him in his crimes. He does not care at all what other people think or about being liked and popular, like a 3 wing, but seems more internally based and information focused.
Roswell, New Mexico: Michael Guerin: ISTP 4w5
Myers Briggs: ISTP
Ti: Michael is analytical and systematic. He’s good with fixing cars as well as tinkering with alien technology, because he looks at what’s irremovable and applies his internal understanding of how things work to different sytems. He is logical and does not trust his own or other people’s emotions.
Se: Michael is impulsive and acts based on what his gut tells him. He gets into fights frequently, not thinking about the consequences of his actions because he lives in the present. He is skilled with his telekinesis in fights because he is good at manipulating his environment. He is clever and thinks on his feet.
Ni: Michael is very intuitive about other people’s motivations and emotions. He is good at reading between the lines and discerning people’s true intentions. He is not overly focused on the future and lives in the present.
Fe: Michael has a tendency to bottle up his emotions and isolate from others, until he can’t control his feelings anymore and blows up. He pushes people away because he’s afraid of his feelings for them, like he did with both Alex and Maria. He struggles to accept his feelings for people because they’re so strong.
Enneagram: 4w5
Michael has very strong and intense emotions. He struggles with feelings of self loathing and feeling worthless. When he learns the truth about his father, he pushes Isobel and Max away because he thinks he doesn’t deserve to be loved. Growing up, he felt special due to his alien powers but also feels different and at a disadvantage because he is an alien. He is also very intelligent and inquisitive, and spends years preparing a ship to travel back to his home planet. He does this instead of interacting with the outside world because he fears rejection.
OSPP Temperament: Melancholic Choleric
Michael is very analytical and wants things done correctly. He is also efficient and wants to get results. He doesn’t interact socially with other people very often and prefers to keep to himself. He is prone to melancholy and mood swings and has a hard time opening up to others.
The Originals: Lucien Castle: INTJ 3w4
Myers Briggs: INTJ
Ni: Lucien is primarily focused on the future and bringing about the end of the Mikaelsons. He spends a thousand years planning his revenge against the Mikaelsons, and thinks every part of his plan through. He is intuitive about people and quick to guess what they’re thinking or what they’ll do next. Everything he does is to accomplish his Ni vision- he wins Klaus’s trust by saving his life, only to later betray him, and manipulates those around him to achieve his greater goal.
Te: Lucien takes steps to accomplish his Ni driven goals and is very efficient. He is quick to point out flaws in other’s logic and becomes frustrated with ineffiency. He has strong willpower and knows how to make his vision come to fruition. He is logical and makes decisions based on efficiency and his own goals. He is blunt and to the point, not sugarcoating his words unless he wants something from someone.
Fi: Lucien cares about few, specifically Aurora. He defends her after Klaus breaks up with her, naiively believing she loves him despite her indifference. He hates Klaus and his family for Elijah’s compulsion and for feeling superior to him. He hides these feelings until he has the opportunity for revenge. He keeps his emotions inside until he has the opportunity to act on them.
Se: Lucien has a taste for the finer things in life and frequently parties. He has no problem acting on his plans once he’s thought them through, but prefers to plan before rushing into action. He is not impulsive like Klaus, an ENTJ, but thinks things through and often cautions Klaus to show restraint, which is why INTJ seems more likely than ENTJ. He is also primarily motivated by his Ni vision, and efficiency is secondary to that for him, whereas Klaus’s primary focus is on efficiency and getting things done, cutting corners to get there faster even if it means acting more impulsively sometimes.
Enneagram: 3w4
Lucien strives to be the best, and finds his sense of worth in having earned money. Deep down he feels inferior over having been born to a lower class, but overcompensates for these feelings by acquiring power both socially and by becoming more powerful than the Mikaelsons. Lucien is charming but all of his goals are based on his personal feelings related to being mistreated for being different to the upper class people he served. He felt disadvantaged and insecure about his social status, embarrassed by feelings of failure and weakness. He wants to achieve things so he can prove to others that not only is he as worthful and as capable as them, but that he can do even better.
Temperament: Choleric Sanguine
Lucien is a results driven person. He is the CEO of a company and has a natural ability for leadership. He is frustrated with inefficiency and is extremely pragmatic. (Choleric) He is also charismatic and sociable, which can make him seem like an ENTJ instead of an INTJ. He likes to charm people, especially to get what he wants, and he is very much fun- loving and enjoys letting loose. (Sanguine)
The Hunger Games: Finnick Odair: ESFP 3w2
Myers Briggs: ESFP
Se: Finnick is a skilled fighter who can assess situations in the moment quickly and with ease. He is very adaptable and present. He is athletic, follows his impulses and good at trusting his instincts. He doesn’t focus too much on the future, preferring to live in the present.
Fi: Finnick is very charming and friendly, but he has few that he holds close to his heart, such as Annie and Johanna. Finnick has a strong sense of right and wrong and that’s why he becomes involved in the revolution. He was willing to die to protect Katniss, like the other tributes who were involved in the rebellion. He is willing to die for what he believes in.
Te: Finnick is efficient and pragmatic. He is logical and a good problem solver. Tying knots helps calm him because it is an external task that helps distract him from his fears. He is good with logic and quick to point out flaws in other’s reasoning.
Ni: Finnick is intuitive and capable of understanding complex strategies. He is not as focused on the future, but he sometimes thinks about the future and the bad things that could happen due to having Ni lower in his functional stack. Finnick is very intelligent and good at understanding his enemies’ motivations.
Enneagram: 3w2
Finnick is charming and knows how to make people like him. He wins the Games at 14 because he knows how to charm the citizens in the Capitol into liking him. Finnick is also caring and helpful to his friends and loved ones. He knows how to manipulate the people of the Capitol into telling him their secrets or sponsoring him in the Hunger Games.
The Originals: Aurora De Martel: ENFP 7w8
Myers Briggs: ENFP
Ne: Aurora is creative and always sees numerous possibilities. She is impulsive and opportunistic and reinvents her environment in order to achieve her goals. She is intuitive and it doesn’t take long for her to realize Klaus feels more for Cami than for her.
Fi: Aurora is authentic and emotional. She focuses primarily on her own emotions and uses her intuition about emotions to manipulate others. She struggles with feelings of worthlessness due to her Bipolar Disorder and is inwardly focused to the point of being self critical. She feels it is her fault her mother died during childbirth and sees herself as a monster. She also identifies with Klaus for this very reason, believing that she went through something similar to him and this initially strengthens their bond. On the other hand, blames others for problems she caused, refusing to believe it was her fault, like when she tries to harm Cami and then comes to despise Klaus for ending their relationship.
Te: Aurora can be efficient, but it is not her strongest area. She sometimes misses things that a stronger Te would not. She takes a step by step approach and becomes frustrated when others make mistakes.
Si: Aurora holds on to her memories of her relationship with Klaus, her feelings for him remained after a thousand years. She is quick to forgive Tristan despite the numerous times he locked her away over the years, instead looking up to and idealizing him as her protector.
Enneagram: 7w8
Aurora is hedonistic and seeks exciting activities. She is impulsive and scattered, always busy trying to achieve some kind of goal. She runs away from the pain she feels as part of her Bipolar Disorder, refusing to believe that Klaus doesn’t love her more than Cami. She is always optimistic about her goals. 4F Unbothered Physics: Aurora is a good fighter but not as focused on the physical world or her own physical needs. She is more affected by her own emotions and goals.
Going forward on this blog I would like to answer questions related to personality systems. Anyone is welcome to submit any questions regarding this topic and I will answer them. I will also begin posting explanations of various topics such as the cognitive functions, enneagram motivations, instinctual variants, and other things in various systems, in addition to typing fictional characters. I will also be typing some celebrities at some point. Requests of characters for me to type are also welcome. I also have a new blog focusing exclusively on attitudinal psyche for those of you who are interested. (attitudinalpsyche Attitudinal Psyche Explained is the blog) Also, I am not certain how much I will be posting since this is my first semester of college back on campus, but I will try to post a few times a month.
INFJ Grip Experience In Fiction: Camille O’ Connell From The Originals
After Cami becomes a vampire, she begins struggling with feelings of insecurity about her physical abilities to defend herself against more experienced vampires. Cami becomes hyperaware of her lower Se, and tries to overcompensate with the impulsive strategy to steal Klaus’s white oak. She doesn’t think through her plan as well as she normally does, and impulsively acts to get her dark objects back despite Vincent telling her it puts a target on her back. In the end, a witch steals the white oak, and Cami realizes what she did was wrong and goes back to her Ni being in charge.
In addition, Camille begins to see Klaus as a scapegoat after he takes away her dark objects, blaming him for her weaker connection to Se. She becomes cold, calculating and fearful that she won’t be able to protect herself from Aurora if she escapes, or from other, more experienced vampires. After Cami comes out of the grip of Se, she sees that what she did was wrong, and begins to use her functions in a more healthy way again.
The Mortal Instruments, City of Bones: Jace Wayland: ISTP 8w7
Ti: Jace tells Clary, “I’ve been hunting demons all my life and in that time I’ve never seen an angel.” Jace believes in logic and evidence, and doesn’t believe in anything he sees as illogical. Jace tells Clary that he sees music as having “no room for emotion”- he sees it as a system with a practical use, for killing demons. He describes the components of music- describes the “mathematical combination” of rhythm, “a simple representation of notes- no interpretation” to “expose demons.” He knows how it works on a fundamental level and this knowledge allows him to use it to his advantage. He factors logic into all of his decisions- he brings Simon along to get Clary to trust him, and for the same reason saves Luke’s life at Clary’s request- not because it is what he wants or is the moral thing to do, but because it serves logic.
Se: Jace is impulsive and acts in the moment. He trusts Clary and Simon based on gut “impulse” because he sees Clary’s potential and realizes that allowing Simon to come along will convince Clary to trust him. Jace is skilled in combat and does most of the fighting throughout City of Bones, relying on instinct in fights. He knows how to manuever his body and is a graceful fighter with fluid movements.
Ni: Jace prefers instinct over planning, but is still very intuitive- he can sense that he can trust Clary right away, but sometimes misinterpets the thoughts and emotions of others, like when Clary explains her kiss with Jace to Simon, and Jace takes it as meaning that the kiss wasn’t “special” to Clary, relying on an immediate interpretation of what is right in front of him, which he believes is more logical, as opposed to reading between the lines.
Fe: Jace can be blunt and stoic, and at times seems unemotional because he prefers to trust logic in his decision making. He tells Clary when she asks him to save Luke- “he’s a dead man, I can’t help him.” He wants to be practical and get Clary to safety, but realizes it is more logical to help her to earn her trust, and also because he cares about her feelings and knows Luke is important to her.
Enneagram: 8w7
Jace, in Clary’s words, “acts like nothing ever hurts him.” He places a lot of importance on being “strong,” because the man who raised him enforced that idea to him his whole life. Jace is also a shadowhunter, a job that doesn’t allow him to express vulnerability- he can’t allow himself to feel. He tells Clary when talking about training an animal that his abusive father then killed- “I cried all night and then I never cried again.” Jace believes there is no room for emotion in his life- he believes his own strength is what enables him and his friends to survive. He is strong to protect them, always saving those weaker than him from danger. His 7 wing is impulsive and he is double feeling repressed- he never fails to act on a goal when he needs to. He lacks the passivity of a 9 wing but seems to have a fun loving side he only shows to Clary.
Just an INFJ nerd who likes typing people’s mbti, enneagram, temperament and other systems.
