This is a dance/performing arts video based on my Afrofuturist character designs for Niara Sakho’s clothing line ETO (Embrace the otherworldly) and it also features and my cousin Sarafina Beck (1st performer). It was great working with these two talented artists!
Hey everybody! I got some great news from France that I wanted to share... My film "Orisha's Journey" will be screening this May at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner section! The Short Film Corner is a part of the Cannes Court Métrage program, where they feature short films they believe have merit and contain a message they feel resonates in the world today. I am truly honored to be featured in this years festival and I want to give a huge thanks to my family and ALL my friends for their help and support! I'll definitely give an update once they send me more info. Thanks!

I got some good news from Cairo, Egypt today! My film will be screening next month (March 20-27, 2015) at the Cairo International Cinema and Arts Festival for Children... This means a lot to me because this will be the first African Film Festival my film will be a part of. Thanks to all my friends and family that helped on this project.

I attended the Independent Filmmaker Project's IFP Week and had the pleasure of meeting "Harriet" Tubman film director Kasi Lemmons! I also ran into "Super Size Me" (1&2) director Morgan Spurlock and attened talks featuring Alice Wu (Saving Face), Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians), and writer Teresa Hsiao (Fresh off the Boat/Family Guy) among others. Definitely a great experience. #ifp #film #indie #filmmaker #writer #director #story #representationmatters @kasi_lemmons @morganspurlocknyc @jonmchu #harriettubman #crazyrichasians #freshoftheboat #supersizeme https://www.instagram.com/p/B3U9T9nDccy/?igshid=r191y3v0qjyz
Aloha,
I’ve got some good news from Honolulu, Hawaii! My film “Orisha’s Journey” will be screening at the Cultural Animation Film Festival on May 23, 2017, with the Honolulu Museum of Art in Doris Duke Theatre ...
Also, I had the honor to go back to my elementary school P.S. 246 and speak with some bright children about following their dreams and passions. It was great being back inside those school walls and remembering it as the place where my passion for art was born and those kids had great questions ... But the funniest one I got was when one of the young girls asked if I was married LOL!! The next thing I thought she'd say was, "Because my Mama's looking for a husband!" Lol -Abdul

Hi, everyone! I wanted to share some good news my film was selected to play at the Caribbean Tales International Film Festival in September. Also, I was fortunate enough to meet Director John Singleton at the 25th Anniversary of his debut "Boyz N the Hood," which made him the youngest (20 yrs.) director to ever receive an Oscar nomination. It was really inspiring to talk with him a bit and hear about the importance of recognizing one's culture and finding an artistic truth to your work. Peace!- Abdul http://www.caribbeantales.ca/CTFF/
Hi! Some of my work will be featured this Sunday at the Roux (17 Frost Gallery 1-5 pm) in Brooklyn for their celebration of Black Art. I made this piece based on an Afrofuturism concept by the dance choreographer/performing artists Celine-Niara Sakho and Sarafina Beck which will later be made into a dance performance by them. There will be lots of great artist and music at the exhibit too. Hope to see y'all there!
