“Alicent Hightower’s son sits on my throne”
I feel like Rhaenyra truly projected all her anger from Viserys onto Alicent because she was the easier target to hate rather than her father. Rhaenyra is no fool and knows that her father having sons put her and her family in immediate danger but instead of hating her father for his folly. She projected it onto Alicent for giving birth to her rival, supplanting her mother and essentially betraying their friendship but what Rhaenyra failed to understand is Alicent never had a choice in the matter and it’s that lack of choice that moves Alicent to finally act because Alicent needs Aegon to be king for her entire miserable existence to have actually meant something and in doing so steals the very thing that Rhaenyra has been clinging onto for all these years after losing her brother, her mother, and her bestfriend. Alicent who surely thinks Rhaenyra has had everything surely she can relinquish this one thing to me and her siblings? Rhaenyra who thinks this is the only thing I had left, how can you take it from me?
God it’s sickening.
Something striking about the relationship between Rhaenyra and Alicent that the show tries to awkwardly scoot past is that time and time again, Alicent sacrifices her own interests and desires for Rhaenyra's benefit, while Rhaenyra never does the reverse. Alicent teaches Rhaenyra history, dresses and crowns her for her investment ceremony, comforts her after her mother's death, advises Viserys *against* naming Aegon heir, supports reconciliation between Rhaenyra and Viserys that ultimately gets her father and sole supporter fired, seriously considers switching sides to her despite the severe risk to her own children, and goes against her father to try and save her life. The most Rhaenyra gives Alicent is a few hollow words of praise in episode 8.
Though the show doesn't seem to realize it, their relationship isn't one of equals, but of master and servant. Otto and Alicent are parallels in this sense - both are in a sense, servants of the Targaryens who do not wish to merely serve. But the show buys into the expectation of their service and Targaryen masterdom uncritically: the great crime of Otto and Alicent is their attempt to subvert the natural order of things rather than meekly serving their Targaryen masters. It's why Alicent is most sympathetic when she is loyal to Rhaenyra, but the reverse isn't true, because why would Rhaenyra be expected to do anything for a mere servant like Alicent?
Which really just goes to show the big class blind spot the show has. By presenting "goodness" as solely a function of how closely one can follow Viserys' orders, they're regurgitating one aspect of medieval social customs to oppose another. With this context, Rhaenyra and Alicent's relationship feels less healthy and a lot more like a premonition of Alicent's relationship to Viserys, with similar power imbalances. Rhaenyra and Alicent love each other, but Rhaenyra sees Alicent as a sidekick at best, doesn't take her seriously as someone with her own inner life and desires, and is sensitive to Alicent's perceived disobedience ("questioning my virtue is an act of treason.")
I think it also gives context to Criston and Alicent's relationship, given that Criston is *also* relatively low nobility, and a servant to the Targaryens, who feels taken advantage of by them, and whose great crime is trying to be something other than a servant, to *make* kings, not just to serve them.
Oh god I need to rant.
I'm sorry but why do the blacks want a 10 year old girl to die so bad? Please enlighten me cause I frankly don't know what to say anymore.
I will never agree with Jaehaera being shoved out of a window not because I'm obsessed with the idea of the green bloodline continuing.
I just don't believe that a little girl who has brutally lost her entire family in the span of two years deserves to die an agonizingly painful death just because the author doesn't like the greens.
She actually deserved to live and heal from what happened during the dance and have a happy life. Why is it okay to wish for Aegon III to process his trauma, see his remaining family again and rule but not okay to want the same thing for Jaehaera? Why is her death necessary?
And don't pull that "she was too broken to be a good wife to Aegon, George put her out of her misery* bullshit cause I'll snap. I think we've all had enough of women being considered unstable because of their emotions and being put down like dogs for the greater good. If I liked that way of thinking I would have just watched season 8 thank you very much.
People know that I love Jaehaera Targaryen and try to keep my mind in positive things about her, just reading headcanons and seeing art of her and Aegon, or her and her brothers and her mother. But I'm tired of even trying to do that, because this fandom is so weird about her, people still come after us at the minimum possibly of her surviving or at the first sight of someone saying they want her to live (the first two screenshots are from a Reddit post in which I shared an art or Jaehaera and Aegon III, that's all)
I'm tired of this "oh to keep her alive would be so cruel with her and Aegon" like they care for her.
Dude, she is just an innocent child, as much as Aegon III. They say "how can you want them married, her father killed his mother". And his father orchestrated the murder of her twin brother who led at the death of her mother. But we all know that that have nothing to do with her.
Both comments are from the same person 💀 they start like "she wouldn't survive because that would be so cruel" (yeah, it is not cruel killing a 10yo girl) but then they can't stand the possibility of someone liking her and wanting her to live and they talk in the most despicable way about her and how she deserved to be replaced as soon as she died.
Why is it so difficult to accept the fact that the little girl has supporters who want her to live? But they can't, they need to be an asshole for free.
Jaehaera is a child, prone to cry, but happy. Her murder was cruel and unnecessary. It has nothing to do with her being the daughter of his mother's killer or with her being a green.
Even if you doubt of Elio Garcia's words, it has never been stated for George that the reason to kill her was because she, as a green, needed to die.
Like why, what did the little girl to deserve to be minimized? Just to exist and be from the TG.
They really think that everyone is like them, that everyone is going to lose their mind for the possibility of a little child from the other team surviving.
Joffrey's death, even while the dance was still happening, was unnecessarily cruel and of course I won't get mad for the possibility of him surviving. The only criticism I would make about that is that it would be so biased to have 5 kids of the TB surviving and killing all the TG kids. But not because of that I will be like "he NEEDS to die" and will get mad for people wanting him to survive. If that happens it would be fair for me wanting Jaehaera to survive too.
And god, the ableism here is so unhinged.
It is so fucking ironic how they can be like "how can you like a character with two lines" and "she is a r*tarded child and she was never gonna give Aegon III heirs" like decide, she "only has two lines" or you can know everything about her, her mental state and how would have been her life?
And lets start with the cruelty toward her: it is so fucking weird
They want her to suffer like what, what did her to deserve that???
I will add more screenshots but I've reached my limit in this post 🫡
They have gone so far as to wish her little brother to be raped and murdered, to mess with the actress who plays Jaehaera (who is a little girl) and to compare her to rats or stray dogs.
People who know me knows that I am on the "separe between fiction and reality" side, but talking like this is too much, getting angry for people not thinking like you because they want her to live and commenting their posts mad because she NEEDS to die is too much, and messing with the actress who plays the girl is too much.
I hate that man I hate him so much
Vaemond deserves so much better than to have his house stolen from him like this
He deserved to be heard not unhonorably executed
He was murdered and his Muderer got away with it
Daemon is fucking EVIL
He is not a protective hubby
He is not a great step-dad
He is a racist and a murderer
And he deserves to die like the bitch he is
Everyone keeps wondering where exactly Alicent is going.
Isn't it obvious? She's heading to the reach to get Daeron.
If the writers won't introduce him she'll take care of it.

i don't really get how harwin won over criston in terms of quality of life.
criston, born a dornish stewards son, uses his talents to rise up in the world of knights and participates in many tourneys . after winning a fight with a prince, he is given a position in the kings guard. as a sworn celibate, he is put into an uncomfortable position when the crown princess attempts to have sex with him. he refuses at first, but they end up sleeping together- despite his protests- anyways. i guess the writers didn't learn anything from game of thrones and their questionable views on consent. he then later suggests that they marry and run away together so that he can preserve his honour. she tells him that he can remain a side piece, but that nothing will ever properly come of their relationship. not wanting that life, criston makes the decision to walk away. eventually the guilt over breaking his celibacy vows pushes him to attempt suicide. the queen catches him right before he stabs himself, and decides to appoint him to position of her sworn protector and shield. he forms a close bond with her and becomes like a second (or, well, a first considering viserys didnt do anything) father to her sons. he stays loyally by her side and trains her children in arms.
harwin, on the other hand, is born the son of the lord of harrenhal. being the first born male, he is heir to his homelands and set to inherit significant wealth. when we first meet him, he seems to have an interest in the princess. in a time jump, we find out that they have been sleeping together for many years and that they also have two sons. their children take after him and are viewed as obvious bastards by pretty much everyone but his boys (the catch on eventually). he has to watch another man raise his children while pretending to be nothing more than their trainer. his father is ashamed of the way he looks down upon low born people that have worked for the titles that he was handed at birth. at almost forty, he is still unmarried, depite being heir to a significant position. his younger brother murders him and his father in a brutal and horrific manner. he dies knowing that he'll never be able to tell his kids that he's their biological dad.
how on earth did criston miss out by not staying with rhaenerya???
Hot take, but I personally think all the Criston Cole hate is bs. He's probably one of the most despised characters in hotd and the slander is so unjustified.
Like damn, are you guys really going to hate on him for despising Rhaenyra after all she put him trough?
I'm 100% certain that if the genders were swapped almost everyone would side with him.
Just imagine a girl that owes her dream job on a prince that is in a significant position of power over her. One night, after things don't go his way, he makes sexual advances on the girl. She feels like she has to sleep with him, because of how he helped her achieve her goal. Also because if she refuses, the prince may be enraged and make up a lie to get her executed. Afterwards, she feels dirty, she knows she broke her oath, and that if caught she would be tortured and murdered, so she deludes herself into believing they love each other and should run away together. At least that way, she won't have ruined her life in vain.
But when she tells the prince her plan and confesses her feelings, the prince tells her that he's not willing to give up the throne for her and that all he wants her for is sex. She's pretty much just his glorified whore.
I bet all I have that in this case everyone would call Rhaenyra an evil fuck boy misogynist who only sees ladies as objects to sleep with. But since she's a girl, then the fandom views her as an empowered, sexually liberated girlboss who takes what she wants. Even if that leads a man to almost committing suicide.
The fact that the fan base also has the nerve to call him a pathetic incel is just the icing on the cake.
Guys, I'm not sure if you now, but hating a woman for something that has happened between you is not the equivalent of hating all women.
Criston hates her and her only, while treating every other lady in the show with great respect, hell he worships the ground on which Alicent walks! And scolds Aemond for how he treats sex workers, 'Cause for him they should all be respected like the mother! He's probably one of the least sexist characters in hotd lmao.
Sometimes I wonder if Rhaenyra stans can't stand him because they genuinely can't fathom a man receiving her advances, being offered to be her lover, and rejecting. Like "how dare him break our queen's heart!"
Poor dude never stood a chance
Yes lmao I just remembered the Tyrion one is from Got ahahah
Mainly a Hotd blog but I also enjoy talking about Asoiaf and Aot. Book!Alicent and Criston slander is not permitted here. 19
