Onew Confession Smut

You pressed the send button and smiled to yourself, taking another sip of your favourite morning tea and taking a bite of your toast. You hoped that today would be a lucky day, not just for your best friend Onew, but for yourself, too.

Jinki had been your best friend for as long as you could remember. He was the one person who had always been there for you. He always knew how to cheer you up, and was the most caring person you could ever think of. You did everything together. But, in the last few months, you’d realised that the feelings you felt for Jinki wasn’t just friendship. You felt something more.

Your heart would beat whenever he got close to you, and you would find yourself smiling every time your phone buzzed with a message from him. All these little things he did had eventually caused you to fall for him.

And today was the day you were going to tell him. The best thing that could happen would be if he felt the same way.

You looked over at your carefully selected outfit that lay on your bed. You’d chosen to wear a white crop top with a pale pink oversized cardigan, and a casual pair of black skinny jeans. Completing the outfit with a long necklace and your Adidas, you looked at yourself in the mirror and sighed with satisfaction.

You then looked at the clock. It was 10:54. Grabbing your bag, Jinki’s present, and your keys, you left for the park.

It didn’t take you long to spot Jinki. He was already sat on the bench you two had claimed as yours as kids. There were still marks on the side of the peeling bench where you’d attempted to write your names that you’d barely just learned how to spell. Jinki was sat with his chin in his hand, and was scrolling down on his phone.

You decided to surprise him, and crept up behind him subtly. You then covered his eyes with your hands, and whispered, “Happy Birthday, ‘Ki,” into his ear. You heard Jinki gasp as he pulled your hands away from his eyes and held them. You walked around the bench and sat next to him, presenting the gift.

“Thanks, [Y/N]. That’s so nice of you!” Jinki laughed, opening up your present immediately. You stared into his eyes as he opened it, your heart pounding in your chest. The present was a picture frame of a picture that was taken of the both of you when you were 9 and 10 years old. It was yours and Jinki’s favourite picture, and he’d been asking for you to send it to him for ages now.

Jinki faced you and smiled softly. He wrapped his arms around you and held you close. The heat from his body radiated onto yours.

“Jinki,” you mumbled into the soft material of his coat.

Jinki pulled back and held you by your shoulders, still smiling. “Yeah?”

You gulped and felt your hands begin to shake. “Um, there’s actually another reason I asked you to meet me here,” you said, steadily. You’d practiced confessing to Jinki in front of your mirror several times with ease, but now that he was in front of you, fear had taken over you.

You couldn’t remember a time when you’d ever felt this nervous in the presence of your best friend, but now it felt like the first day you’d met him. When no words had come from your mouth for about a minute, you looked down into your lap, ashamed, and felt your cheeks get warm.

Suddenly, you felt your best friend’s comforting arms wrap around you once again. But this time they were more soothing, more loving. “It’s okay, [Y/N]. You know you can tell me anything.”

You looked up at Jinki and smiled nervously. After a deep breath, you squeezed your eyes shut and quickly said, “I know we’re friends, but for a long time now, I’ve actually felt something more than friendship. It’s just that… everything you do makes me so happy, and I’m more comfortable with you than I am with myself! I… I like you, Onew.” You felt yourself trail off at the end, and couldn’t bring yourself to look at Jinki for fear of what he might think.

“That’s a coincidence,” Jinki laughed softly, after a moment of silence. “Because I’ve actually liked you for a while, too.”

You looked up at Jinki, who was smiling. “You’re not just saying that?”

Jinki responded with a laugh and a shake of his head. He ran a hand through his fringe nervously, before taking your hands in his. They were warm, and soft. “Thank you,” he said, placing a kiss on your forehead. His kiss sent a fluttery feeling to your stomach, and your eyes made their way to Jinki’s lips. As if reading your mind, Jinki leant in to kiss you on the lips.

You gasped at the sudden action, but knew you could get used to this. The kiss turned from a soft one to a passionate one, and you were just about to wrap your arms around Jinki’s neck, when he pulled away unexpectantly.

“Hey,” Jinki said, panting a little. “We can, um, go to mine, if you’d like? It might be a bit more… private.”

You nodded and bit your lip in excitement.

Jinki’s apartment was just around the corner, and as soon as he unlocked the door and locked it again once you were inside, he threw his jacket onto the floor. Jinki led you up the stairs and to his bedroom, where you’d walked into just yesterday to play videogames.

Once the door was closed, Jinki stepped towards you and cupped your face in both his hands. His lips glided against yours gently and you parted your lips to allow entrance for his hot muscle to enter. It explored your warm, wet cavern, running across every surface possible.

Jinki then moved his hands from your cheeks to your sides, and he ran them up and down, suggesting that your clothes were going to be on the floor in a pile very, VERY soon. Every time his hands moved up your body, they lifted up your top a bit more and slid over your exposed skin. He held your waist as he pulled away from mouth to attack your neck. He planted small kisses everywhere imaginable, from your collarbone across your shoulder, up your neck and to your jawline. The kisses then turned into sucks and bites that would surely leave marks the next day.

You moaned at the electric shocks being sent through your body everytime his lips made contact with your skin. “I love you, Onew,” you sighed.

“I love you, too, [Y/N],” he whispered into your neck. He began to walk you over to the bed, and you flung your pink cardigan and necklace to the side in the time it took to get there.

You had forgotten how strong Jinki was as he picked you up bridal style and threw you onto the bed. “Sorry,” he said, all of a sudden. “I didn’t mean to throw you! I was meant to-” But you stopped him when you pulled Jinki onto you and kissed him sensually.

Jinki was quick to flip you over so that you were underneath him. His hands slipped under your top fully and slid it off with ease.

You began to unbutton his shirt, and he spread your legs apart with his knee.

He tangled his fingers in your hair and held your face delicately. “You’re so beautiful,” he whispered into your ear, leaning down. Jinki had always been able to switch his moods very easily.

You remembered how one second he’d be playing an innocent game of skip rope with his friend, the next he’d be plotting ways to trip them up with it for fun.

His smile against your ear turned into a smirk, and he bit down on your earlobe.

Your lifted your hips in pleasure, and your fingers scrabbled for his shirt, which landed on the floor.

It landed on the floor, and Jinki continued to tease your ear. He blew in it, sending shivers down your spine, before licking down the side of it all the way to your collarbone. He ran his hand across your ass, causing your legs to then wrap themselves around his hips.

Your hands were on his chest, and suddenly he switched back to his loving side.

He kissed your forehead, your cheek, your ear, your eyelids, your neck, your hair, and then eventually your lips. You loved the way his soft lips lightly fitted together with yours, like puzzle pieces.

“I didn’t know you could be such a tease,” you giggled.

He then smirked and but your lower lip naughtily. He took the risk of beginning to fondle one of your breasts, and with the other hand, began to slide off your skinny jeans.

You gasped out loud, and tugged at Jinki’s own jeans. You both removed your jeans, and were looking at each other in just your underwear.

The lust in his eyes turned back into love, and you weren’t sure if you could keep up with these quick personality changes.

You’d always compared Onew to a bunny or a puppy, but knew he had his mischievous side. This was a perfect example of his personality swings, and you laughed to yourself as Jinki was about to lean down for another kiss.

“Hm?” he asked, stopping just above your lips. You felt your breaths mingle, and he cocked his head to the side as his brown fringe fell forwards. “What’s so funny?”

“Nothing,” you smiled.

“Oh yeah?” he smirked, and it felt like you two were kids again.

“Just your face,” you laughed again.

“Hey!” Jinki responded, and mimed crying.

You grinned at his jokes, and pulled him in for another sweet kiss.

Word of Honor/Shan He Ling Fic Recs

I’ve been procrastinating on making this post because while I’ve read a good number of WOH fics, many of them are short and were written during the run of the show.  I keep feeling like I need to read MORE fic before I can pick the really best ones and that’s an impossible task, so whatever, here are some fics I like.

Wenzhou unless otherwise noted.  Roughly listed in order of where they take place in the canon timeline.

with morning come by Shaderas (E, 2K) PWP of a morning after Wenzhou’s first time.  After a drunken, rough night of sex, the morning brings a very gentle and loving second round.  I love ZZS almost overwhelmed by the sincerity and gentleness of this.

warmth by triedunture (E, 4K) Set during ep 16, when they are spending a night in the cave.  On the surface it’s a PWP, but there are so many emotions being processed that it’s heart-rending.  Grief and crying and love and tenderness.  Both very gentle and very prickly, because it’s Them.  Just perfectly in character and capturing the mid-drama Wenzhou mood. 

with your heart beating and your eyes shining by thatbug (E, 4K)  WKX starts a game of questions late one night over wine, and they discuss past relationships and sex.  ZZS is basically inexperienced/bad at sex and they discuss what they like and what they might like together.  It’s a really lovely fic about talking about sex and then exploring new things together. (Or new to ZZS.) 

On the Moor, the Creeping Grass by etymologyplayground (T, 6K) One of my favorite authors bringing their brilliance to SHL?  Yes, please.  This is set during the ep 24-esque period in Four Seasons Manor, featuring ZZS getting injured and WKX helping him with his wound.  A lot of teasing and bantering, some soft cuddly sleeping together, lots of quoting of poetry, longing, wistful storytelling, and a little biting.  It’s utterly gorgeous with such a quietly aching tone, while being so very soft.

One Step Forward, Three Steps Back by hollybennett123 (E, 14K, ZZS/WKX/Han Ying)  Wen Kexing sees how Han Ying and Zhou Zishu look at each other and arranges for some fun with the three of them.  Lots of dirty talk and fun d/s play, as well as interesting character study of the three of them and how they relate to one another.  But mostly it’s very, very kinky and slutty.

passers-by, late in spring by @pumpkinpaix (E, 3K) - This is one of my very favorite SHL fics, and I’m only slightly biased in saying so by the fact that it’s both very much to my taste and the author is a friend.  It’s smut, PWP really, post-nonspecific-canon (book influenced) and d/s.  It’s got a dominant (bottom) ZZS and submissive (top) WKX and honestly I think has influence more than a few smut writers in this fandom, including myself. 

silver lining, strike me down by brosnyaa (E, 6K) This is actually novel canon mostly rather than drama canon, but it’s great fun.  WKX and ZZS make a series of bets (5+1 to be exact) involving kisses and…other activities.  Lots of fun banter and teasing, leading up to genuine connection and sweetness. 

fanged teeth hiding behind gentle eyes by ShootMeDead (T, 4K) A story about the relationship between WKX and the women of the ghost valley, specifically the unimportant servant women.  This is something I really wanted to see explored in fic, so this hit the spot.  Ties in to a generic happy ending for Wenzhou as well. 

lonely dream by @minmoyu (G, 4K) A post ep 36 fix-it, a really lovely story that is soft and romantic and gives us a very happy ending, but doesn’t ignore the very real pain and trauma that ZZS goes through.

silent and immutable as snow by elrohir - (E, 3K) Set after episode 36, this is a fixit of sorts, a primal scream of a fic.  Raw and emotional, ZZS dealing with grief and then anger when WKX comes back to life.  A fic for wallowing in the angst of the drama ending.  (I also recommend the author’s other SHL fics.  It was tough to pic one so read those too! They are lighter!)

time enough series by scheherazade (3 fics, E & T, 4K-9K) The first fic deals with ZZS saving WKX post ep 36 through dual cultivation.  The second has Ye Baiyi visiting immortal Wenzhou on the mountain, and the third deals with Gu Xiang and Cao Weining’s rebirth and discovery by Wenzhou.  There are some really lovely moments throughout. 

Non-Canon AUs:

run (back to you) by synonemous (M, 11K) A modern AU in which WKX and ZZS are both CEOs and ZZS leaves his company and goes into hiding to avoid his former boss, but WKX comes stalking him.  ZZS is delightfully grumpy throughout, but WKX is willing to be patient (some heavy stalking notwithstanding) and they end up gradually fitting together.  A very soft modern story despite the specifics of the plot.

Ill Omens series by manic_intent - (2 fic, E, 4-5K) Zhou Zishu is a hulijing.  WKX is fascinated, naturally.  And Ye Baiyi takes exception to him feeding on a mortal, no matter how much WKX protests it’s consensual.  I just really love the worldbuilding/use of folklore here.
