Day 11 (14 In Base 7) Of Writing My Novel Again.

Day 11 (14 in base 7) of writing my novel again.

I put about 1,000 more words into Part 2 today, and 90% of it was just Izi and Hota yapping, learning about each other. More on Part 2 later.

Today I wanted to share the two lines from Part One that one of my alpha readers said were "banging." I completely agree with her. That's all for now!

I didn't remember exactly what he did. He was always meeting with high-ranking military officials in his study, which he always told me to stay out of. I remembered his smile and his quiet voice. My last few weeks with him were spent in a hospital. He made me promise to devote myself to myself. I didn't really understand what he meant then, and I had only started to understand it when the Dr. Este came for me.

And:

In Ipol, the language of Zeneste, the formal 'rr' sound already sounds like you're choking on a cherry pit, but my 'rr' sound sounded more like an 'h,' but stronger-sounding. Just thinking about taking speaking lessons made my heart drop.

I finally started writing my novel, Meiste, again! It’s about a rice farmer who becomes Emperor, a student at a religious boarding school searching for the secrets of spirituality, and one explosive (/literal) Princess all working together to return magical stability to their home, and fighting oppressive systems along the way.

So far, I’m 4,500 words in—there’s definitely still a long way to go. Most of my research for this so far has been about two things: rice farming and religion. (Sounds like the start to a bad dad joke!) I plan to mostly focus on the (former) rice farmer, In Iziser, since the novel is supposed to be from his point of view.

Day 41 (1:14) of rewriting my novel

I didn't write a lot today, but that's okay. Any progress is progress.

I'm still thinking about Izi's speech in Tolftorrijv, and about what he might say. For the three-man band that is the "New Heroes," Izi fills both the Heart and the Leader, and Taguchif overlaps with him in the roles of Lancer and Smart one. I guess that makes Hota the tank, while also fulfilling some leadership roles because they're good at making plans. A well-balanced team.

I now plan on breaking that balance in Part Four, though, splitting them up. It's time for Zeneste to come under new management, anyways.

Meet Winvyre

That's me!

Winvyre (Win-vie-r) is my pen name (I do not like to be perceived) and my pronouns are They/Them.

I'm a bit all over the place, both in terms of writing and in general. My longer stories mainly fall under the category of fantasy with horror elements and the shorter the piece the more horror dense it becomes. (Roughly: Long Stories: 25%, Short Stories: 50-70%, Poetry: 90%) It just kinda happens. When I was little, I was really good at scaring myself with the things I made and I guess I never grew out of it. While I'm not completely opposed to romance it's not something that shows up in my work very often.

I've never published anything unless you count some laminated paper stapled together into a fully illustrated book for my classroom when I was in third grade. I'd like to share some of my short stories and poetry but I'm not sure if I should post them directly on here or if there's another site I should try.

Current Projects:

Valerie's Story (no title) (WIP)- high fantasy, coming-of-age type story that I've been working on since I was twelve. This is generation six (I think). Valerie lives in a world where six powerful mages are worshipped as gods, called the Six Immortals, but haven't been seen since the White War ended over one thousand years ago. Assigned the task of defeating a grave threat against the world, Valerie must find the reincarnations of the Six Immortals and uncover their secrets buried with the truth of the war.

Hidnight (WIP)- urban fantasy, heavy trauma themes. Since moving to his new neighborhood, Connor has become very close with the Ibarra family, especially since his own is neglectful on a good day and terribly abusive the rest of the time. The Ibarras may be werewolves, but this is of little consequence to Connor... until he gets wrapped up with the Hunter's Association and their crazy experiments. Can he protect his chosen family and himself?

Day 21 (30 in base 7) of re-writing my novel.

Wow, three weeks and ~27,000 words. Time flies.

Today I added double my normal word count to Part Two. I finally started writing the Hero of Life into this nonsense.

I will also provide an Odapir translation for today, used in canon:

Omoi odáo o tavishy ko. Wá áso asiren omoi táotsoi ko. Ymaktaviji tá taviji umak.

The translation is "Arriving in Tavishy. Take care when exiting the train. Ymaktaviji is the next stop."

A free invitation to go off on main? It's hard NOT to pass this up.

I have been dying to talk recently about Tavisam, (M.I. tavisam, W.Z. tebisam, M.O. tawisaham.)

Tavisam is a sport much like American football or rugby, although admittedly less violent. The aim is simple: carry a large ball 120 m (to your opponent's goal.) It is nearly 1,000 years old, but only in the last 100 years has it become standardized.

Modern Tavisam

Modern Tavisam is played on a square field (120 m by 120 m) with fifteen players for each team, meaning each team has 30 players. The rules remain simple: carry the ball to your opponent's goal, which is a net at the other end of the field. The ball starts in the middle. Kicking, passing, rolling, and handing off the ball are all allowed.

While tackling isn't allowed, it's certainly a very physical game. It's completely allowed to take the ball from another player who's holding it. This often results in groups often all pulling on each other for the ball, especially to start the game.

To start the game, the ball is placed in the center of the field, and both teams must line up 12 m away from the ball. Once the horn (some fields still use a pistol blank) sounds, both teams race for possession of the ball.

If the ball goes out of bounds, the ball is replaced in the center, like the start of the game.

The goals at either end are 5 m tall and 15 m wide, placed due in the center.

The game can either end in a tie, win, or loss. The game ends after 120 minutes.

A foul is called at the referee's discretion. A foul is defined to be any act which could cause unnecessary harm to another player, including kicking, tackling, hitting, head-butting, or anything else which could injure another player.

Teams are allowed 2 substitutions every 30 minutes.

Historic Tavisam Games

University of Obizoe Tavisam Team vs. U. of Ir Nouzonif Tavisam Team

Summer of 855.

Outcome: Obizoe 12 - 2 Ir Nouzonif

Notes: The first recorded game of Tavisam played between two college teams, and also the first game in the East vs. West rivalry between Ir Nouzonif and Obizoe. It's said multiple fights broke out in the spectators' stands at the neutral site, played alongside the Great Inland Lake.

U. of Ir Nouzonif vs. Ir Nouzonif State U.

Autumn of 855

Outcome: UIN 5 - 3 INSU

Notes: The first game in the Ir Nouzonif rivalry: UIN vs. INSU. After losing the first 3 goals in 15 minutes, UIN pioneered the rotating defense on the fly. INSU didn't score another goal.

U. Obizoe vs. U. Tolftorrijv

Autumn of 855

Outcome: Obizoe 15 - 1 Tolftorrijv

Notes: Obizoe dominated Tolftorrijv in their first ever, true away game. Hearing about the rotating defense at UIN, they took it one step further and perfected it. The rotating defense would go unmatched for fifty years.

Odapir U. vs. UIN

Winter of 901

Outcome: Odapir 7 - 7 UIN

Notes: Many history writers say the sport stagnated until this game, when UIN agreed to play a historic Tavisam game with OU at a neutral site in Atepsi. UIN scored the first 4 goals, hunkering down with the rotating defense. Shockingly, OU deployed their weapon: the arrow attack. Without going into too much detail, they managed to draw the defense in on itself, and then take the defense away from the goal. Odapir scored the next 5. The game ended with a mob trampling the field once time ran out and the scoreboard read 7-7. This was also the beginning of the rivalry between OU and UIN.

Ir Nouzonif Admirals vs. Tolftorrijv Palms

Spring of 905

Outcome: INA 1 - 0 TT

Notes: The only goal in this game was scored with 5 minutes remaining on the clock in Tolftorrijv. This was also the first professional game, and INA figured out how to defend against the arrow attack.

I hope this is interesting!
