Dæmonism 101 - Dæmons for Systems

Daemonism (like most things in life, really) is usually explained in a way that assumes the person wanting to become a daemian is a singlet. Most guides assume a singular person with a singular identity who wants to create a daemon for themselves only. But what if you're a system, then? We actually know quite a few systems with daemons, it's not uncommon in the daemonism community!

So let's explore how daemons can work in a plural system, and how you could approach daemonism if you are part of a system.

Individual Daemons

You could have a daemon for each system member who would like one. That's probably going to be easier for systems who view themselves more as their own individuals or who are more separated. Instead of trying to find one daemon to fit everyone's needs and personalities, you can let each system member learn to connect with their individual daemon if they so choose. As someone takes front, their daemon takes front with them and if they go to an inner world, their daemon can follow them inside as well. We know a few systems who find their daemons are a big help when it comes to recognizing who is fronting. They can look at their side and gain clues as to who they are based on the daemon fronting with them. Daemons can also help their specific system member ground themselves in front with their presence. By each having a daemon, it lets system members more individuality in how their daemon will present, and it lets system members who are not interested in daemonism simply not take part in it.

Collective Daemon

You could also have a collective daemon that belongs to the entire system. That one might be easier on systems who view themselves more like parts of a whole or who tend to blend in together a lot. Instead of trying to separate who is who, their daemon can be a constant presence regardless of the fronter(s) and can be shared by the entire system. A collective daemon might remain pretty much the same no matter what, a reassuring constant presence especially when the system feels very blurry or during rapid switching episodes. Or they might adapt to depending on the member(s) who are fronting, taking certain forms around specific members or changing their attitude and approach to better fit the system collectively through the day as their attitude and mood shifts, ever changing and adapting just like the system they are in.

More Options!

You could also do both, because why not! Some systems have a shared collective daemon and some members also have their own individual daemon.

A daemon could be shared by specific members only, but not others (for example each subsystem having their own subsystem daemon).

Though we've never met a daemian system who works this way, it would also be possible to have a daemon who is also a system and who switches between different daemons along with the fronters. We think it kind of makes sense, to imagine that a daemon might also switch along with their person.

And just like a singlet can have multiple daemons, a system could have two collective daemons or could have one member with multiple daemons while others have none.

Hopefully you now have a clearer idea what deamonism can look like for systems. Remember of course that no two daemons are the same, because no two people, systems or system members are the same. So don't be afraid also to find your own unique way to make daemonism work for you, if you so desire.
