A comprehensive list as to why I think Carmy x Claire shouldn’t be together:
It took Carmy a good 10 seconds to remember Claire’s name at the store
Carmy originally gave her a fake number, so she hunted down Fak to get his real one
Claire had to make him repeat his real number to her even though he looked like he was fighting for his life to not hang up the phone
Their dates weren’t dates, they we’re running errands and not the sweet “I love doing mundane stuff with you kind” the “my cars not working so I need a ride kind”
When they attended the house party Carmy was clearly uncomfortable and quite literally pretended to be someone else the entire time (Logan)
Mikey and Richie pressuring Carmy about Claire in fishes even though he clearly just wants them stop and let it go
THE PANIC ATTACK SCENE, Carmy trying to his damndest to picture Claire to help himself calm down but it’s not working and the moment he pictures Syd he can breathe again
They had brief crush on each other in high school and nothing more, they were never close friends if anything Mikey and Richie seemed closer to Claire than Carmy ever was. Their conversation in the car backs this up because Claire talks about knowing and thinking Mikey was cool, but not a lot about Carmy
Every time Carmy was asked if Claire is his girlfriend he couldn’t answer, he even has to ask Fak if Claire is his girlfriend
Not to make this about SydCarmy but to make this about SydCarmy he does all these intimate things with Syd (i.e. the table scene, the monogrammed jacket, you deserve my full focus, opening an entire restaurant with her) but he can’t even bring himself to call Claire his girlfriend
There was no point where Carmy showed any interest at starting or being in a relationship with Claire it was all forced by someone else (i.e. Giving Claire a fake number, Fak giving Claire his real number, Richie and Mikey pressuring him in fishes, Richie and Fak pressuring him even now, only calling Claire his gf after someone told him that’s what she’s supposed to be, hanging out with her only when he runs errands and needs a ride, having to be reminded to invite her to family and friends night)
Their entire relationship felt like an obligation (specifically to Mikey) from Carmy’s part, he never pursued it and never put as much work into it as Claire did
The obvious indications that Claire represents Carmy’s past while Syd represents his future
Claire telling Carmy she loves him for the first time via voicemail after only dating for a few weeks
Carmy unintentionally breaking up with Claire whilst locked in a fridge

I have not seen one good reason as to why SydCarmy shouldn’t happen. Age gap? They’re maybe 2-3 years apart and both full grown adults. Power imbalance? They very clearly view each other as equals and respect each other deeply (I couldn’t do this without you, You were the best cdc in the u.s.) Professionalism? Many chefs and people who work in the culinary industry have said it’s quite common to have work place relationships. Carmy needs therapy? He can go to therapy AND be in a relationship, many people are. The Bear doesn’t need romance? There are many ships and many canon relationships (CarmyxClaire etc.), yet SydCarmy is the only one you don’t like. They’re better off as friends? Maybe, but many good relationships are a balance of friendship and partnership, so really they can remain besties and be in a romantic relationship.

I love the idea that once Carmy makes it clear to everyone he doesn’t want to be with Claire, Richie and Fak immediately make it their job to get him and Syd together
Seeing new content and bts pics from The Bear season 3 and knowing I’m going to fighting for my life for Sydcarmy
Carmy having to ask if Claire is his girlfriend after literally buying Syd a personalized Thom Browne jacket, telling Syd he couldn’t do this without her, he wouldn’t even want to do this without her, and she makes him better at this, picturing Syd to calm himself down from an intense panic attack, yelling Syd’s name when he got stuck in the fridge, saying he felt like he should’ve known that her mom died, and saying you deserve my full focus and nothing less. Yeah buddy you have a girlfriend it’s just not Claire.
The fact that some people still think Syd is inferior to Carmy or that they have a mentor/mentee dynamic after Carmy HIMSELF said “I couldn’t do this without you, I wouldn’t even want to do this without you, you make better at this” is actually insane
being excited for The Bear season 3 then remembering that I will yet again have to suffer
if I don’t get a SydCarmy kiss or at least some form of confirmation that they’re canon before the end of season 3 then i will be severely unwell
Even better, they’re doing something fluffy and domestic (cooking together preferably) and he’s just gazing at her with the softest and most adoring look in his eyes and it just slips out
Need carmen to say “I love you” before him and sydney even date. let me clarify, I’m not even thinking of it as a confession in some heated moment I want it to just slip out and he’s a little mortified till sydney’s like “same!”
Not to hate on Fak (I love him) but I need to see Carmy talk to him next season about giving Claire his actual number. Because if one of my best friends was out here giving my real phone number to somebody who i purposely gave a fake one to, i’d be pissed.

Headcanon that because there’s fanfiction about famous chefs, there’s probably fanfiction about Carmen Berzatto in The Bear universe and Syd accidentally stumbled upon it at some point while looking up something about Carmy and read it. She went down a rabbit hole of Carmen Berzatto fanfic and now she has the embarrassing secret that she’s read multiple Carmy fanfics and now they own/run a restaurant together
June is not close enough I need season 3 tomorrow
Sometimes I remember that no one in Carmy’s family ever really acknowledged all of his work as a Chef (except for Pete/Nat and that one cousin) and every thing it took for him to earn all of those accolades. They all seemed more upset that he left home rather than being proud of his success in his field. So when Syd came along, full of adoration for Carmy, his craft and all of the hard work he put into it, that must’ve been absolutely jarring for Carmy. Especially when she defended him against Richie when he called Carmy’s experiences in all of the different restaurants he worked in around the world stupid. imagine working in a field as thankless as culinary, working in multiple different restaurants around the world, receiving many awards, giving everything you have, being torn down every single day by your god awful boss telling you you’re not good enough and a million other terrible things, only to go home and be shamed for pursuing your passion and not even receiving an ‘I’m proud of you” or a “good job”. Until one person comes along and she admires you so deeply, she knows you as “the best CDC in the best restaurant in all of the U.S.”, and you made her the best meal she’s ever had. And all of the sudden for the first time in your life someone recognizes all of your hard work, all of your accomplishments, they acknowledge all of your successes in a way no one else really has, and they see you. This is what Syd did for Carmy, she saw every part of him, including all of his work as a chef when nobody else did and that shit makes me cry every time I remember it.
Can’t wait for Sydcarmy to have several incredibly intimate scenes that can only be explained as romantic in s3, so the antis can get mad and Chris Storer can gaslights us

When Carmy had that meltdown/crisis and he was literally in the verge of tears in the walk-in, he smiled when he saw the fennel and the radicchio because they reminded him of Syd 🥲

Something interesting that I’ve noticed is that Natalie is one of the only people who hasn’t given her thoughts on Carmy and Claire together. We’ve seen most of the people in Carms life give positive reactions and approval to Carmy and Claire, going as far as trying to push Carmy towards Claire i.e the Christmas ep with Mikey and Richie trying to antagonize him about seeing her and Fak willingly giving up his number. Nat’s one of the few people who hasn’t given their insight on Carmy and Claire’s relationship as a whole, besides being somewhat glad he’s socializing with someone outside of the restaurant. I’m hoping this leads to them having a conversation in s3 where they talk about whether he’s truly happy with Claire and Nat being the only person who can see that he’s not. I feel as though Carmy and Syd share a similar relationship to Nat and Pete, Syd and Pete being the one person who isn’t tied to their past, the ones who see all of their damage and want them anyways. And I think Nat sees this too, that Syd is to Carmy as Pete is to Nat. I hope she tells him to do what makes him happy and be with someone who makes him happy and not the person everybody thinks he should be with.
