It’s that people have fought and died to learn how to write, how to draw, how to paint and make music. Creation for more than just utility is a fundamental part of who we are as a species.
The more I think about it, the more I believe generative AI is not only an insult to the hundreds of thousands of years of human progress, but it’s an absolute rejection of the personhood of craftspeople.
Do I want to read the end of an unfinished fic but the writer has been inactive since 2010? Sometimes. Do I really want art of my OCs that doesn’t suck? All the time.
But the idea of using generative AI to fulfill my personal fleeting desires is such a deeply selfish, entitled one.
Learning skills and the personal autonomy that they allow us is a deep part of who we are, all of us. To deny yourselves that for a quick fix, and to deny respect to real human artists, is to give up that humanity for a fucking hit of dopamine you’ll just forget about in hours.
