And in the naked light, I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never shared

[...]

And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made The Sound of Silence, Simon & Garfunkel

The wall on which the prophets wrote Is cracking at the seams Upon the instruments of death The sunlight brightly gleams

[...]

Knowledge is a deadly friend If no one sets the rules The fate of all mankind I see Is in the hands of fools

Epitaph, King Crimson

In other AI adventures, there's Suno.com, which can take a simple prompt or set of lyrics and genre and turn it into a song in real time.

I highly recommend trying it, if for no reason than to know what all the low effort tiktok songs will sound like in a few months.

Lyrics (Prompt?) under readmore

Catchy Instrumental intro. Solo violin and piano with dark synth [dark bardcore viola electro swing]. sweet female vocal

[Verse] I'll kill you in the subtext I'll murder you between the lines There's not a scrap of context Your ending was left undefined There's not a scrap in the final draft Of what I’ve left behind But under the words When closely observed Your body unalived

[Chorus] It can’t be seen upon the stage You’re stuffed beneath the floorboards In the view of children of every age A puppet takes all the rewards The happy ending and ever after I kept it all from you, unalived

[Verse 2] The curtain falls on a charade so sweet Where masks hide deceit, laid bare but discreet In the silence between each whispered breath Lies the echo of a tragic untimely death No roses thrown upon the stage No mourning wails, no solace sought Just the hollow echo of a life unmade In shadows where the truth was caught

[Chorus] It can’t be seen upon the stage You’re stuffed beneath the floorboards In the view of children of every age A puppet takes all the rewards The happy ending and ever after I kept it all from you, unalived

[Bridge] You were the lead in this masquerade Yet your fate was sealed, a cruel escapade I penned your demise with careful grace In ink and rhyme, in every secret place

[Chorus] It can’t be seen upon the stage You’re stuffed beneath the floorboards In the view of children of every age A puppet takes all the rewards The happy ending and ever after I kept it all from you, unalived

[Outro] But beneath the surface, in the depths unseen Lies the truth of what could have been

[END] [END] [END]

the horrible histories songs genuinely formulated the entirety of my music taste (minus the influence of my english teacher...) but they literally wrote some of thr greatest parodies so good that they depending on how sentimental im feeling could rival the actual bands

the charles dickens smiths one is literally so catchy that it got small me into the smiths after my dad showed me the song it was based off of like yesssssss serve matt PLEASEEEEEEEEE

also the viking and garfunkel got me into simon and garfunkel because of how well it encapsulated their tone, like how did a parody convince me more then hearing ths sound of silence in passing as a child thats how good they are!!!!

I remember when I found out Art Garfunkel’s name wasn’t really Art, it was Arthur….

Some years ago before finding out I had said to my mum “If your name is Art, it’s kind of predestined for you to be an artist”

BUT HE WAS CALLED ARTHURRR. NO.

I was so disappointed. Ruined my life (lmao don’t even listen to his music :/ apart from The Graduate soundtrack)

I will forever thank my elementary school music teacher for showing us “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, were it not for my early introduction to this music I wouldn’t be the insufferable nerd I am today

Ohhh this is fun! Thanks for tagging me @boxesofmold

1. I love them both but if held at gunpoint probably Paul

2. Paul

3. Bro has issues and is kind of a control freak with perfectionism which is is just like me tbh haha (also I think I’m funny and I’m short too).

4. I try not to be insane about it but there’s definitely something that went down between them

5. Probably a tree 😭

6. Playing guitar. I already play bass and my voice isn’t amazing

7. Basic choice I know but BOTW. I swear it literally changed my life.

8. Fakin’ it (username checks out)

9. April come she will because it’s almost April and it has been on repeat lately

10. Hiking with Art. I’m shockingly bad at sports and I know nothing about baseball so I’d probably deeply offend Paul.

11. Never meet them. All I wish for is for them to be friends again tbh.

12. I reckon Paul gives bear hugs so probably that option.

13. Ok this one is genuinely tricky for me…Probably Art’s voice because I study English so I can write pretty well (I’ll never be on Paul’s level though haha)

14. This one is funny af. I’m a lesbian so I’d let them marry LMAO

15. I’m not attracted to either of them but 60s Art is definitely more ‘pretty’ while 80s Paul is more ‘hot’ (I am so sorry 😭)

16. Either would be a nightmare sorryyy

17. Paul as an English teacher so he can teach me his ways

18. I’ve always loved their music but I think I really got into the fandom when I first listened to BOTW in full.

19. Mrs Robinson

20. My parents playing their greatest hits album in the car on all road trip.

21. How insane we are. Also how niche it is.

22. Artie - Breakaway Paul - Hearts and Bones

23. Artie - I only have eyes for you Paul - Peace like a river

24. Yes but just for the meme I swear 🙄🙄🙄

25. Ok it’s a lot and it was good actually

26. It was actually very fun ❤️

27. @times-up-alone-tonight and @hunginjeet any of my other followers feel free to participate too 💞

do you ever listen to this song and just go so profoundly insane its as if you will never ever recover? do you ever think about Paul simon "half of the time we're gone but we don't know where, we don't know where, the only living boy in new york" and art garfunkel replying with "here i am" in the most haunting harmonies that could fill a canyon? i mean do you ever think about that.

“Simon & Garfunkel had a peculiar type of groupie. We had the poetic groupies. The girls that followed us around weren’t necessarily looking to sleep with us as much as they were looking to read us their poetry or discuss literature or play their own songs …. I wound up going back to the room and smoking a joint and going to sleep by myself. Most of the time, sometimes not.”

— Paul Simon, quoted by Jon Landau in a Rolling Stone interview (July 20th, 1972)

I would like the to add the way Paul speaks about Art in the second part of In restless dreams too. Specifically the bit where he talks about working with Art on Hearts and Bones (before his part got scrapped). Paul just seems so hurt about his relationship with Art and this is probably how he copes with it?

"We do not refer to Beatles songs as early Paul McCartney songs or early George Harrison songs. They are Beatles songs. (...) Rolling Stones songs are not referred to as Jagger's or Richards’s songs. Ray Davies wrote most of the Kinks’ songs but we do not call them early Ray Davies songs. The songs of Simon & Garfunkel were a collaborative effort, and are distinctly different from Paul Simon’s successful solo career. The works of Simon & Garfunkel have won many awards in the name of Simon & Garfunkel. They are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in the name of Simon & Garfunkel." "Art Garfunkel was Paul Simon’s missing ingredient. Without him you’ve got smoke but not the explosion that was Simon & Garfunkel."

Thanks fuck somebody said this. Bravo.
