Three tiny little paintings I did during a paint night with friends. Played around with underpainting and letting the chosen colour shine through.

Gr11 assignment where we had to paint something that has a meaning.
I'm gonna yap about my thoughts on this.
I hate it when teachers/people start developing this notion that every piece of art needs to have a meaning. I get that that's why a lot of people do art (whether to convey a message or just vent an emotion), but once it's forced it's no longer an outlet. I like doing art because I do. And if it has a meaning to me, that's for me to know. Everyone has their own experiences that vary their interpretations, which leads to people seeing stories that you may not have intended (which is fine). But I don't see the reason for chastising the artist if you don't see a meaning to their work.
Idk, I just feel that once you force an artist to make art that has a meaning, you're taking away the freeing aspect of art. With art, you're the one in control of what you create and the messages you send, but once it's forced it defeats the purpose.
Anyways,,, I needed to paint something that has a meaning, which i really didn't feel like doing. The way around this was to paint something that has so many fucked up aspects that most people would think this says so much about society. Dead animals? check. fucken,, fire? check. impossble perspective?? you love it babyeee
I had fun painting this piece, but it did take me a bit to get over my angery about me having to have a meaning. I eventually leaned into thinking how funny it was that peoplewld think this says so much about society when I was just dickin around.
(also this assignment had a written portion where you have to explain the meaning, but I never did that 🤠👍)

I wanted to do a whole four seasons of plant trilogies, where each one had a different colour theme that fit the season. This was for spring.
Unfinished, and idk if I'll ever get around to finishing it.
!!! I found my old notes on the chosen plants for each season. !!! This ups the chance that I'll return to this series.
Croton plant
Orange coleus
Flapjack
Poinsettia
Blue hosta

Painting of a hockey card I was doing for my brother in-law. I worked on this for like a day and then gave up. Drawing people was not my specialty and I'm still bad at making a drawing of a person look like its real-life counterpart, so making this was frustrating.

Birch tree forest I made for my sister at her request. It's been in her living room for forever ❤️
looks better irl 😒☺️
18x24" camvahs. will burn unless u get varnish again :D
8 1/2 hrs in total. 2 days. 6 non-consecutive hrs then the 2.5hrs consecutively the next day. 8 trees, the highlight/orange and the border=2.5 hrs work time.
+~20-30 mins (not including drying time) for varnish. 8 1/2 =/= varnished.
18x25 = ~9hrs (w this style)

Another glitch effect painting. Had a lot of fun with this one. Started it over the summer but didn't end up finishing it until school had started.
Got permission to use this as a submission for one of my art intro assignments. Don't remember what the prompt was.

This is a canvas that i've painted a tree on 3 times. A whole repaint what was on it before to see my improvement. This is definitely the most drastic change. The first two was a tree centered in the canvas w leaves surrounded by green grass. I wish i'd taken pics of them 😭. Oh well
Painted this when me and my cousin went paint crazy at my house. Converted the table into a lil paint studio ❤️
(the pictures say it was painted in august, but I swear I thought I painted this the apr/mar of 2020)

Little painting using the glitch effect. It was trending on tiktok/social medias, but I remember getting incessantly annoyed at how people weren't doing it correctly.
Want to do another one of these sometime but with more colours so that the glitch effect/illusion ¿? actually works

Another painting I did that utilizes the peeling canvas trick.
I wasn't too happy with this when I finished, but I really like it now. It's just a fun little piece.

Unfinished painting that was supposed to mock an inspirational quote.
Was going to consist of three canvases and overall be a very vertical painting.

I'll limit myself from the details until the frame for the wings is thought out/the rig is made #5 is a mixed media thingy + maybe 3d drawing cos i havent doen anything like that in a while

hawk - started apr 11 ti plant, #5 - apr 12 algaonema, caladium - apr 8
Well lookie here, look at how much I lied. hoping to get the spring plants done? What an absolute buffoon I am. There is one success story here, though - Rosewood and Iris, surprisingly. Everything else are failures.

I completely forgot that I made this, until I randomly found it in my parents' room.
Again, tentatively put in the timeline. It must have been recently after their creation, since it's just the three of them and the hourglass was a feature that didn't stick for long.
(plus this painting's concept sketch = is in the same sketchbook as my first drawings for them)

I don't remember painting this at all, really. Just vague impressions. I actually like the painting, but ig I didn't like it back then cos I put that huge tear in the middle.
Idky I took the canvas off of its wooden skeleton for this painting.

Cute painting I made with a decent amount of 3D elements. The shapes themselves are 3D because of the acrylic. Although the acrylic I used bordered on too soft-bodied for this purpose. It dried decently flat and there are holes littered throughout,,, idk why that is. It's not terrible, I just needta keep that in mind if I ever do smth like this again if I want better results.
This piece was rlly big so I did it on the floor. I had a lot of moments of getting angry at my dogs for being stupid and walking on it.
The 3D peeling away was achieved with newspaper and a lot of mod podge. That part's taken quite the beating since this painting was made, and a couple of the pieces have fallen off.
I like the contrast in this piece, and painting the little revealed part was my favourite part of the project.

I remember struggling to use the neon acrylic paints because they're really translucent and only show up well on a white base.

Another painting of the harry potter patronus because I was so happy w the other one. And i think I wanted one for myself after the other one was given to my sister ¿?
It's very different from the other one, considering how I wanted it to be similar.

This was inspired by those galaxy painting things that spray paint artists do. As well as techniques of loading the brush with different coloured paints to get smooth gradient brushstrokes for the ground.

Something I did when I was a little baby at art. Was super happy with how this turned out.
My sister was either the one who prompted me to paint this, or liked it so much that I gave it to her. It's still hanging in her bathroom ❤️

Painting I made way back when. Got mad one day and stabbed a bunch of holes into it 💀. Talk about sublimation. I remember nothing about what led me to that decision. It's hard to see the stab marks because the painting's so busy, though.
Meant to be a tree that has all four seasons on it.
