Before the episode tonight, I wanted to get my thoughts out for last week's episode.
Wow, so much happened and I think we got some really interesting answers but also very much nowhere near having enough.
There were some really wholesome moments in this episode. Like Gerard trying to guard Miss Muffet from the reality that happened to the people in the cocoons. And his moment with Ylfa and trying to reassure her that she wasn't some monster. Plus the absolute fondness that his voice held when speaking of Elody and her strength. My heartstring strung up tight. I was so unsure of Gerard when we first met him but I shouldn't have doubted Murph. He is such an interesting and complex character that it takes a second to really appreciate and look at him wholely.
And Mother Goose's little pep talk to Miss Muffet even while Brennan was having too much fun with the soundboard, it just shows that these adults, though Gerard's adulthood was unnatural in some means, recognize that these are still two very young girls who are still kids and shouldn't have to be so emotionally and mentally aware of the horrors that the world has around them but have to for survival. But here comes Mother Goose and the ever-growing and developing Gerard helping them shoulder it all that they can.
I'm quite curious about the like twig construct-like creatures and if we will be seeing more of them. If I understood correctly, they came from The Great Fairy but our sneaky little Pib ruined her plan. Maybe we'll even see a briar construct-like creature eventually. I'm not sure about that one but at this rate, I wouldn't even be surprised anymore. (Yes, I would but nonetheless.)
Now, for the ending of the episode...
Holy...
Shit...
So much happened so fast. THE ART!!! The absolute rawest statement from Brennan. "The face of a divinity you don't worship, the fucking smile of a devil that you never believed in." The best move of Gerard throwing Pinnochio that sword of truth. Mother Goose quickly and I think a smart move too, of shoving Rosamund in the closest cause we all know The Stepmother wants her. And the image of this Fairy, something that is so powerful and induces fear, being so afraid of seeing The Stepmother that she ripped out her own eyes!!!! And then of course, "reality shatters." I can't even imagine where the fuck we are going next. I'm so glad Scheherazade was able to grab them and seemingly pull them somewhere safe.
I can't wait to watch the next episode. It drops in last than 30 minutes for me so I will be watching it very soon. I still need to put my reaction to Misfits and Magic up but that is next. I'm still in the stars so I'll talk to you guys later.
Wow, these two episodes held so much in the stories each. Learning so much about the characters, the book, the NPCs, and then the battle.
I quite like how The Stepmother is seemingly connected to every stepmother or stepmother like characters in these fairy/folk tales being this omnipotent being that is so haunting. I'm very curious about how she will continue to show up in this story. The mirror caused quite a fuss about wishing to be returned to her so I'm wondering if we will see the mirror with her at some point possibly.
The book, especially after the death scenes, has really caught my attention in how it can or may be used going forward. Like Ylfa said, they were focusing so much on the past, maybe it's time to look towards the future which I think will delve into how these characters will come back because I personally don't believe that this is the last of these characters.
I can already say that this campaign is also gonna be a top favorite of mine. It's hard not to have a favorite honestly.
This is a good thing to bring up. For example, where I live (Southern State plus a small town with less than 1000 for the population) we lost our tiny (volunteer) local library due to water damage of the building and it never recovered. I would have to go to one of the next towns over, which is at least a 20 minute drive, for which I don't have the means of going to as I am unable to drive. So, please be aware as much public libraries are nessacery and need support from the community more than ever- not everyone can get to a library unfortunately.
as a fellow Public Library Enthusiast i am begging people to consider the fact that not everywhere has an accessible public library or indeed public libraries at all. just saying “get a library card” at strangers when you have no idea about their background or their life isn’t very helpful. let them pirate in peace
My new single-player TTRPG, No-Tell Motel, is now available! Come on over and grab a PDF, or throw in $5 more to pre-order your physical copy.
In No-Tell Motel, you play the overnight clerk at a sleazy motel. One of your guests murders another one, and no one much seems to care who did it or why. No one but you, that is.
Playing the game only requires a standard deck of playing cards and a six-sided die. You use the face cards to identify your motel's regular guests (yes, the book comes ready with 16), and the numbers cards to randomly generate things that happen between them.
And unlike most build-as-you-go mystery games, you can make your best guess and still get it very, very wrong.
The nightly spread of the game looks a bit like a hand of Solitaire, and that's on purpose. I wanted playing the game to feel a little bit like something you'd do to pass the time in the small hours of the morning.
Here's how it works.
The rules generate different murder victims and methods, a highly randomized yet still coherent matrix of guest gossip, actions and conflict, and most importantly: a way to find out if your accusation was correct, and what the consequences are for pointing the finger.
If you like pulp crime, The Conversation, or Errol Morris's Tabloid, you should check out No-Tell Motel.
"You have been a bad friend to Riz Gukgak, Adaine..."
Before tomorrow's episode so I wanted to write down my thoughts for this episode really quick.
Wow, this episode hit the ground running in such a way that makes it feel like even though the characters still don't fully know or are only just beginning to understand their world, they feel so much more sure-footed in the next/new leg of their journey.
I like that we are seeing physically how the Neverafter is affecting our heroes. It makes this feel so much more immersive than it already is. Really bringing in these subtle horrors of living in times of chaos and misery that we get to visually see.
I really like seeing our heroes adapting in such a quick manner cause they have to or it could mean far worse outcomes. Plus most of them have the benefit of knowing both lives they have lived and can use that to their advantage which we have already watched them do. Though I wonder how things for Pinnochio will turn out since he doesn't have those memories but have the crow who is most likely a watch out for the Stepmother, that's my theory.
I can't wait for tomorrow's episode and this fight that is set up. I really hope that they get some better rolls this time around but I also feel like they are at a better advantage overall between being more experience than before and having the stealth that they got set up. I am so excited and wish that I could just binge it all at once but I'm also glad that I get to watch this as it is coming out.
As a side note. I'm almost done with The Unsleeping City: Chapter 2. I only have like one more episode and get out my little post about it tomorrow. I'm not sure what I'll watch next after though I think I'm leaning toward the other Aabria DMed campaign that I am forgetting the name of right now.
So what if Lucy frostblade wasn't possessed when she submitted to change her god but what if someone in the rat grinders is a changeling. And what if that's why Ivy wasn't surprised when she saw Lucy at the party because she assumed someone else was pretending to be her. And what if that someone is kipperlily and that's why she's such a good rogue
