I just want to take the time to Thank Tumblr for pinning STOP ASIAN HATE with BLM because the world needs to see it and understand what’s going on. Our elders within the Asian communities and to the men and women in the African-American community don’t deserve this and we all need to rally against this. Because hate gets us no where.
Edit: I would like to add something to this post because some fellow Tumblr users have made some remarks I don’t completely agree with. BLM and STOP ASIAN HATE can AND WILL COEXIST. I am a minority mixed with both of these ethnicities and I didn’t make this post to “guilt trip” Tumblr or anyone else who sees this. I’m just glad that Tumblr, one of the main social media platforms is making an effort to show support to my communities. I may not look like the stereotypical Asian and I may not act like a stereotype of an African American but gosh darn it I’m going to voice my support to these communities... my communities.
it's 2022. donald trump has died in disgrace days after being impeached and jailed. my chemical romance's new album is coming out the same day as the new spiderverse movie. the lizzo and janelle monaé collab song is blowing up the radio. lil nas x has a verse in it. you and your partner have time and energy for dates after work after jeff bezos' assets have been seized and distributed to the public in the wake of his arrest for keeping employees in unsafe working conditions.

white people need to understand that all your posts about standing with us, and supporting us (us being poc as a collective) and whatever literally means fuck all if you don't do anything.
are you ignoring posts about racism because the language is too aggressive? [see: the use of 'you' as opposed to 'we] are you only interacting with posts about racism written by white people? are you making these loud proclamations on your blogs (and tagging every damn shit in sight, which just looks performative as fuck and clogs up our tag; i don't CARE what you have to say as a white person, i literally don't!) just ease your own conscience and so you can appear woke?
i can't tell you the amount of times i've scrolled past long ass essays on this app of white people now realizing their place on the racial hierarchy. in 2021. after how many information is out there, and how much theory and papers have been fucking handed to y'all. (this is about grown ass adults btw. there are 15 year olds on here who are more educated in these topics than y'all are, that shit's embarassing).
i can't tell you how i annoyed i've gotten because it's the fucking equivalent to a white person crying in front of me because they realized that the world is racist.
whoop de fucking doo, welcome to the real world. i don't really care if i sound rude because it's annoying and it does nothing for those of us of color on this site. it doesn't help us in anyway. and the worst is when y'all come onto OUR posts and post your white tears there. what the hell is that supposed to accomplish? what the fuck is the purpose? how does that help us in any way?
and it kinda really pisses me off that those posts crying about realising that racism exists will get thousands of notes and that posts talking about actual racism, and how it works - especially in online spaces - written by actual people of colour, get a fraction of them with the added touch of harassment by the same white ppl btw, because we managed to hurt your little feelings.
Part of my job is processing all the new incoming books and putting our property stamp on them and barcodes, so I get to also see all the adorable new kid's books too with wonderful gorgeous art in them but ANYWAYS THIS NEW ONE CAME IN AND
"It Feels Good To Be Yourself. A book about gender identity" written by Theresa Thorn and illustrated by Noah Grigni. The cover shows the four main characters, one is a transgender girl, two are nonbinary in different ways, and one is a cis boy who is the little brother to the trans girl.
I typically don't read the kids books even when they are super cute but this one I HAD to read. So I start reading. And I just--
Here's a few pages: (short image description below)
Quick image description: Above are 5 pictures I took of pages that I really liked and made me extra happy. The first two are back to back pages of the book's introduction of JJ, who is a wheelchair user and is "neither a girl or a boy" and uses they/them pronouns. This is the text from the next two back to back pages depicting the four friends playing outside and coloring on the sidewalk: "Some kids don't feel exactly like a girl or a boy -- they feel like neither. Some kids feel like their gender identity isn't always the same -- it's often changing." [Next page] "And even with all these possible ways to be, some kids don't feel like any of the words they know fit them exactly right. There are a never-ending number of ways to be yourself in the world." The last page shows Ruthie after she came out to her parents as transgender. Her whole family (mom, dad, little brother, her, and a dog on the side) are hugging. The text reads "Oops! Ruthie was a girl all along -- they just didn't know it at first." End ID.
SO OBVIOUSLY IM ALMOST SOBBING AT WORK NOW OMG
This book is absolutely beautiful and so sweet and I encourage everyone to go see if they can borrow it at their library. It's a quick 2-3 min read, maybe 15 if you start getting emotional like my queer little heart did. I'm assuming there's a regular print version more widely available, and maybe a LT version too, and if my Hawaii library has a copy of the braille version I'm guessing others already have it too.
OH AND HERE'S THE BACK COVER I DIDNT NOTICE UNTIL AFTER I PROCESSED IT AND THIS PART REALLY GOT ME OKAY (text written below)
"No matter what your gender identity is, you are okay exactly the way you are. And you are loved."
One of my favorite visual gags is drawing a passive/bubbly character with cartoon-y style eyes, but changing their eyes to be realistic whenever something annoys them:
