It just happened that it takes places amongst two women lives and their tragic character/relationship representing it. Elphaba is an outsider who is being portrayed in a bad light for resisting a fascist regime and glinda is upholding the status quo because it benefits her, they love each other but not their ideologies... it’s fun.
