KIM MIN JAE as PARK EUN TAK DR. ROMANTIC | seasons 1-3
I will never recover from the treatment Jackie got. Since the first episode, Jackie gave EVERYTHING she had to Shauna. She suggested the dress for the party because she wanted to see Shauna approve of something she had saved up for and bought for her, and wanted to see her appreciate her efforts and her care and the fact that she had given her something that, to Jackie at least, would have been special. During the plane crash, Jackie gave Shauna the lucky charm necklace that she is visibly attached to in order to make her feel at ease despite the fact that it was HER favorite necklace and comfort object, as well as her mom's medication for relaxing, even though Jackie probably needed it more if she brought it with her in the first place. When Jackie pulled Shauna away from Van, she didn’t do it to save herself. She did it because Shauna was going to catch on fire. Jackie was still a ways away from the fire, so she didn’t have to worry about herself, and only reacted when Shaun was in grave danger. When both of them were still on good terms and starving, Jackie still gave Shauna her last piece of food because Shauna was hungry, even though Jackie herself was also wasting away. When she read Shauna's journal, it was because she wanted to know how to help her, not for herself or to satiate her own curiosity, just to help her, only to find out all the horrible things Shauna had done to Jackie. Even when they had their last fight, with Shauna projecting herself and her own cruel misdeeds onto Jackie, Jackie still couldn't hurt Shauna, using movie lines in order to keep giving Shauna what she sensed she needed; the promise that she still loved her despite everything within the lack of a true insult. Going out to die was also a decision made FOR Shauna and the rest of the group. They didn't need her, and she couldn't provide for them, not to mention the fact that Jackie had only ever kept living for Shauna, and now that Shauna didn’t want her, she couldn’t keep going, not even for herself. Even after her death Jackie sticks around for Shauna. “You're the one holding the knife” because Shauna had been the only cruel one in their relationship, the one carving everything from Jackie until there was nothing left to give, both literally and figuratively. Not only had Jackie given her whole spirit to Shauna, all her effort, she gave her body too, in the end, letting herself be ruined once more in order to keep Shauna going. As an adult, Jackie still gives the only things she has left to Shauna, advice and her forgiveness, because even with everything that has been done to her, she still loves Shauna, she still wants Shauna to be reminded of what she’s doing, the consequences that can happen to the people around her. And once more, Shauna ignores Jackie’s warnings, Jackie’s efforts. She does what she shouldn’t, and another person she truly loves dies. To the very end, Jackie always kept being a true leader, and demonstrating the reason why she was picked to be team captain; being able to make sacrifices for the good of others.
