Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Eddie leaned against the side of his van, arms crossed and body slumped hard against the back door. He was trying his hardest not to stare, really, he was. He fidgeted with his rings. He shoved his hands in his pockets. Then crossed his arms. Looking up at the sky, looking to the rest of the parked cars in the school parking lot. He was trying to not stare.
But every time, his eyes would drag back to the same spot he had been staring at for over 15 minutes. His leg bounced as he crossed his arms again. Fighting the urge to draw attention to himself and smack his fist against the van, he shoved his hand into his back pocket to get a smoke. Cursing as his lighter refused to light. "Fucking come on you stupid piece of crap" he muttered, baring his teeth as he grimaced.
"Munson, you alright?"
He almost jumped out of his skin as Steve tapped his shoulder. Eddie swallowed his scream but mouthed 'Jesus H Christ' as he dropped the cigarette that was in his hand, reaching into his back pocket for another one. Eyes flickering back to their original location before, going back to successfully lighting his cigarette and taking a deep drag.
Steve looking at Eddie's obviously flustered state in pure confusion. "Seriously, what is up with you-" Steve followed Eddie's line of sight and let out a small "ah" before falling silent himself and putting his hands on his hips disapprovingly.
Robin coming up to the side of Steve and gagging at the smell of smoke. Then her eyes almost bulging out of her skull at the parking lot, "Holy shit! When did Billy Hargrove get out of hospital??" Instinctively she looked to Steve for answers, but when she was met with an uncomfortably loud silence, she paused.
"Long enough to be chatting up my girlfriend" Eddie spat, quickly finishing the cigarette he only lit a few minutes ago to then scrummage through his pocket for another. As soon as another one was in his hand, Robin snatched it out of his grip.
"Dude, he's not chatting her up. They just used to date" she shrugged unbothered and threw the cigarette away. Turning back to see Steve staring at her like 'why did you do that' and Eddie looking like he was torn between throwing up and killing a man.
"They used to date?!" he hissed, trying to lower his voice. He was aware that the parking lot was practically empty but still.
Steve massaged his temples, "Yeah before the Star Court Mall situation" Eddie grinded his teeth and raked his hand through his hair, wincing slightly at the pain. "Honestly though dude, you shoulda known. It was big news throughout the whole school, Dustin never told you?"
Eddie paused at that. Maybe Dustin did tell him, but he didn't listen because he didn't pay you any attention until the last year of high school. But he remembered one thing. You had definitely never brought it up. You never even mentioned Billy Hargrove. You just mentioned that you had dated someone else before Eddie and frankly, Eddie was delighted. He knew that whoever your ex had been it wasn't something you talked about much. Eddie took that as you didn't think there wasn't much to talk about. Which meant you didn't have any high expectations when it came to dating him. But you still hadn't ever brought up just who your ex was or how it had ended. And that was what was eating him up inside. Especially since he had to hear it from someone else.
He turned his attention back to you and him chatting. Honestly, he wasn't sure why he was getting so worked up over nothing. You were just chatting to him. Sure you had the brightest smile on your face when you had ran over to him, pausing in mid conversation to see a black car pull over in the school parking lot and a tall figure step out. You still had the same smile on your face when the figure had walked over to you, clearly in pain but pushing through. The same smile on your face when he returned it. The same smile when you looked to the ground as Billy winked at you, and Eddie knew you were blushing.
"Munson, you can't take Billy in a fight so don't even try it" Steve said stealing Eddie's concentration. Eddie knew it was in case you looked back and saw how upset he was. Maybe this was why you had never brought it up. He raised his eyebrow at Steve. "Trust me, I tried." Steve said shuddering as he remembered the fight that seemed like forever ago.
"She never brought him up with me" Eddie admitted. Looking at the sky, blinking quickly, running his hand through his hair again. In the however many months you two had been dating and a year of friendship beforehand, you hadn't brought it up once. Robin and Steve gave each other a look.
"It wasn't an easy relationship" Robin offered. She knew the things you had told her. But equally she couldn't let Eddie suffer like this. "She ended it and they stayed close friends" She bit her lip looking at Steve for help.
"How close?" Eddie growled as he watched you stand on your tip toe and lean into a hug with Billy fucking Hargrove. One of his hands on upper waist, lower back, the other is slightly higher up holding you firm against him and yours around his neck.
Energy and rage rattling around inside him, feeling like he was either gonna explode or faint. So, he channelled his rage and as confidently as he could, held himself tall and started walking over. Robin elbowing Steve to catch his attention and he whipped round and saw Eddie striding towards you two. Steve quickly caught u to him, practically running towards you, and clapped his hand on Eddie's back basically telling him to 'cool the fuck down'.
As they got closer Steve called out to you, "Yo man! When did you get out of hospital?" Hearing this, you quickly separated yourself from Billy. Billy didn't let go of you as quickly and let his hands linger on you for a little longer. Your heart did a weird somersault when you turned and saw Steve and Eddie walking towards you. Seeing Eddie's face, you knew it wasn't good, but you pushed those feelings down. As Billy's hand slid down your back, the small shiver that seeped through you, you know Eddie saw.
"You still fucking here Harrington?" Steve rolled his eyes. "And who are you?" Billy scoffed pulling a cigarette out from behind his ear. You inwardly sighed. You knew Billy was deliberately pissing off Eddie. You knew he knew who Eddie was.
Sending a small look to Billy you jumped in before Eddie could retort, "This is my boyfriend, Eddie Munson. You know the guy I told you about, he has a band" You smiled your brightest smile.
"Yeah Corroded Coffin, we play Metallica covers and original songs" Eddie said puffing out his chest a little. He was nothing compared to Billy, even though Billy had been in hospital for months and not near his workout gear for ages. You tentatively tried to stand near Eddie but doing so you ended up being closer to Billy. Not what you had intended.
Eddie slung his arm around you, heavy and tight and you almost toppled over at the sheer aggression of the action. Confused by Eddie's tough guy pretention, you completely missed the way Billy smirked and raised his eyebrows at Steve. Steve just looked like he wanted to really not be there. You glanced behind you seeing Robin with the rest of the kids. You could see there was a discussion going on but you couldn't obviously hear. You just knew it wasn't good with the way Max was looking at you four.
When you thought the testosterone levels were going to explode, the words ended up falling out of your mouth before you could stop them, "We have a gig on Friday, you could come if you wanted to...?" You hadn't meant it to sound like a question and you're not sure why you asked but you'd done it now.
"We? You in the band too?" Billy asked, curiousity twinkling in his eyes and the grip on your shoulder tightened.
"Yeah, the lead singer and Eddie's the guitarist" Steve said trying to quickly end the conversation. He noticed your wince in pain as Eddie's grip on you continued to tighten. Steve gave Eddie a look, but it appeared that Eddie ignored him.
"You're sleeping with the lead guitarist? You're moving up in the world, my girl" At the pet-name you froze and smiled awkwardly, not knowing what to do. Billy was grinning, knowing full well what an absolute shit he was being. Fucking bastard.
Eddie hadn't said a word, but he didn't have to from the way his entire body tensed.
Oh shit
"Anyways. We gotta be going, rehearsal and all that." Eddie said with a tight smile, pulling you away from Billy. You stumbled backwards slightly at the sudden movement and almost fell.
"It was nice seeing you Billy" you managed to say before being dragged away for good. Steve on the other side of you in case you accidentally fell over again.
"See you around doll" You heard Billy call after you. You saw Max walk past you as he yelled, "Oi shithead! Get in the car!" with less animosity than before the Star Court Mall fire but still not with much warmth either.
It was going to be an interesting drive home...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The car ride home was silent. Not even turning on Metallica or Iron Maiden helped the situation. Eddie had ejected the tape and shoved it into his side door pocket mid-way through the song.
You had opened your mouth to speak but got shut down real quick, "Not now" was all Eddie said. His voice remained levelled and calm, which only scared you more.
It was only when he pulled up outside his trailer did you wish you could return to the silence.
"Billy Hargrove, huh" he started. It was phrased as a statement rather than a question, so you didn't answer. He turned to finally look at you and you could see the wildfire behind his eyes. You had never seen Eddie like this. You swallowed and slowly undid your seatbelt.
"When were you gonna tell me that your last ex-boyfriend was Billy fucking Hargrove? The biggest asshole that ever showed up to Hawkins High." Eddie locked the car doors as you tried to reach for the door handle. Oh no.
You didn't usually have big explosive fights. The last fight you had that was this big was when he had been keeping it a secret that he had been doing drug deals and meeting up with Chrissy Cunningham - when both of you knew full well, that he used to have a crush on her since middle school.
"You never asked" you shrugged your shoulders. You knew that wasn't the answer he was looking for, but it was the most straightforward one. Because it was the truth. He hadn't ever asked or pressed further about your past relationship.
"I had to find out from Steve and that was after you had run off to be all flirty with him"
That made your blood boil, "What is that supposed to mean? I wasn't being flirty, you idiot! I was happy that he was finally out of hospital. I was there at Star Court Mall too ya know!" Huffing you put your head in your hands. Completely shocked that you were even having this conversation right now.
"Oh yeah sure that's what we're calling it." He smacked the side of the driving wheel making you almost jump. Eddie talked with his hands, but he never hit things. You started feeling uneasy and trapped.
You ran your hands down your face and tried to keep yourself calm. You knew Eddie would let you out once he had calmed down a bit. You just had to get him there. "Oh my god what is going on? I love you - you absolute dumbass! I'm with you, I sleep with you, I practically almost live with you considering how much I come round to yours." You voice sounding strangled at the end. "Why are you so worked up about this?"
Looking at him exasperated you could see his eyes still blazing with unquenched fire.
Then it dawned on you.
"Are you jealous?" You looked at him as you waited for a response. When none came and he looked down at the steering wheel biting his lip, you gasped. "You are jealous! Is this what this is all about?" You relaxed into your chair your mind going hazy with both disbelief and shock. "So, cards on the table. You go and sneak off with your middle school crush for weeks on end, during which you avoid me, and I have to find you and confront you about it. But on the other hand, I'm just talking to my ex-boyfriend in a friendly way, and you fly off the handle after not even 20 minutes?!"
You waited for his response. When none came you clicked the air in front of his face annoyed. "Hello? Got nothing to say? What, did you lose your argument when you realised that you got nothing to be angry about?"
When he just looked at you, you just sunk back down into your chair. Arms crossed, annoyed and exasperated that your boyfriend was even angry about this in the first place. Gently rubbing your thumb over the part of your shoulder he had been gripping tightly during your encounter with Billy, you bit the inside of your cheek. You weren't sure what on earth you had to do to prove to Eddie that you weren't going anywhere and that he shouldn't be jealous. But from his expression and the way anger was still flowing through him, you knew your words would fall on deaf ears.
"Let me out of the car Eddie" you said. Feeling claustrophobic in the car with all this anger and negativity swirling around in front of you, you needed to in the fresh air.
"Not until you promise me you won't see him again" Eddie breathed out, staring ahead of him at the trailer door.
You looked at him thinking that he was joking. But the look on his face said that he was definitely not. Still, "you're kidding" you scoffed. He couldn't be serious. Eddie had never been like this with anyone else. He was jealous of Steve, you knew that, especially at the beginning of the relationship. But he had never said that you couldn't see him. This was ridiculous.
"Promise me" Eddie responded in a monotone voice. He still wasn't looking at you.
"Eddie, you're scaring me. Please let me out of the car" you tried again. A tremor of fear ran up your spine and you saw Eddie finally look at you. The fire behind his eyes was gone but the poison that had inflicted him with this jealousy. The poison was still there. His pupil massive, like he was on something. You could see it in the way he stared at you expressionless. Your heart rate quickening.
You've never known Eddie to be scary like this. This kind of possessiveness reminded you of home and the flashback memories started coming to the front of your mind. Your hand fumbled as you tried frantically to jiggle the door handle, but it was still locked.
Eddie grabbed your wrist and pulled you towards him, "Am I your replacement for him? What, we both listen to heavy rock and know about the Upside Down so you think 'yeah I can replace him with another fucking weirdo'? Were you planning on leaving me as soon as he got better?" As you shook your head repeatedly, his grip on your wrist tightened, "Now, promise me" he said each word slowly. Over punctuating each syllable.
"Eddie, please." your voice trembled with fear and pain. Where he was holding you on your wrist was aching and you could see your hand turning blue with lack of blood circulation.
You saw something flash behind his eyes and all of a sudden, his pupils returned back to regular size, and he let go of you. He unlocked the doors and stayed sat inside the car before jumping out and slamming his door shut. You shrunk back at the noise, your body taught with fear and caressing the purple bruise forming around your wrist from how tightly Eddie had been holding you.
You slowly got out of the car, legs wobbling slightly. Closing the door slowly, you leaned against the cool metal of the van. Breathing deeply, you sighed at the fight that had just unfolded. Your head was swimming with thoughts. Why was Eddie so jealous of Billy? Was he this jealous of Steve when he was first introduced to the gang? None of what he said he meant right? You could provide no answers to the questions swirling inside your mind. But you heard footsteps, so you straightened up, ready in case Eddie wanted a round 2.
You felt yourself be pulled into a gentle hug. Your nose breathing in his scent slowly. Still trying to keep your breathing steady so that you didn't start crying. "I'm so sorry for how I was with you then. I just got so angry" Your face buried into his hair so you could barely hear what he was saying over the sound of your mind and your heartbeat. "My dad used to lose his temper like that with me, I guess I lived up to the Munson name." You knew he was trying to apologise and make a joke out of it, but it felt like he was excusing his behaviour to genetics. You made a small 'hmm' noise in response and the hug became slightly tighter
You pulled away first. "I'm gonna go home. I need to be on my own for a bit" you murmured. Refusing to look him in the eye, because you were still terrified, you'd see the poison still there and also because you knew if you looked at him, you would definitely lose all control of your emotions and weep.
"I'll call you?" He offered. You simply nodded. Your vocal cords tired after the short but explosive fight. He'd let you walk to your trailer across the trailer park by yourself. He knew he had overstepped the line and he knew that you needed space. He sighed. "I've really fucked this up" he pinched the bridge of his nose and walk walked into his trailer when you began walking away.
As you made your way passed Max's trailer you stopped to pet one of your neighbours' dogs. The silly good boy wagged his tail and whined, putting his paw up against the fence. "I'm fine, I promise" you managed a small smile when you reached through the fence to scratch his ears. A couple of small tears escaped through the quick blinking of your eyes. You used your other hand to wipe them away, pausing when you saw the bruise on your wrist develop fully.
The doggy whined and sniffed at your hand before licking your fingers softly. "Thanks for making me feel a bit better" you let out a soft laugh at the feeling. "You're a good boy" you said, and the doggy woofed in response, clearly pleased.
"And here's me thinking you'd only call me that"
You turned around too quickly, almost losing your footing, but a large hand caught you by the waist in time. You recognised the voice and the hand simultaneously.
"Hi billy"

I just can't with this! You make me cry! I miss Freddie so much and this imagine make me feel so next from he. Absolutely thank you for this! â¤
5 September 1946 - 24 November 1991.Â
In memory of Freddie Mercury, I wrote this imagine. Itâs not your traditional sort of imagine, nor is it a Freddie x reader sort of thing. Rather, itâs everything Iâve always wanted to say to Freddie in an interaction with him if I could travel back in time to.Â
Freddie is one of the best things to ever happen to me and I felt as though I needed this to celebrate it. It was rather cathartic to write and I do hope you enjoy. Iâm sorry if heâs a little out of character in this but heâs truly his own and this is my version of him.
Word Count: 5.4k. Warnings: None. But I miss Freddie and this may make you miss him too.Â

âYouâre not funny.â
In the middle of her flat in present-day London, you roll your eyes at your best friend. She had called you to schedule a dinner on November 24th and explained that you had to dress nice because she was going to announce something important to you.
You secretly scowled at the thought of having to celebrate something else on a day that was Freddieâs, but she is your best friend and so you complied with her wishes as the night seemed to matter to her.
What you didnât expect, however, was the audacity of her announcement. She leaned over in a low voice, almost as if she didnât want anyone to hear even though no one else was in the room.
âI can time travel.â She said, which brought you to where you are now in claiming she was not amusing.

"if you have chemistry, you only need one other thing...timing. but timing is a bitch" - how i met your mother
a.k.a the four times that steve harrington chose the wrong moment and one time he got it right (series masterlist)
You made Steve Harrington cry the first time you met him.
He still remembered it clear as day, even though it had been in first grade. You'd thrown a Lego brick at his head and stuffed sand in his mouth, promising that if he ever touched your pet worm again (his name was Sherm, if you were wondering) that he would pay. After some negotiation and charm from his part - and the promise that he wouldn't make his parents call yours - you had become best friends. You brought balance to one another's lives, even from a young age. Steve was always a little more calculated and thoughtful in his actions, sticking to the sidelines at playtime and always worrying about his hair. You, meanwhile, had always run headfirst into danger, with scrapes on your knees and glue in your hair. Ying and yang.
You never left Steve's side and he never left yours. Things came close when the popularity really got to his ego in sophomore year, but it was nothing a whack across the head couldn't fix. The threat of telling every person at Hawkins High about his Farah Fawcett hairspray secret also very quickly humbled him. He owed you a lot of apologies after that phase.
Things were better than ever by the time graduation rolled around. It hadn't really hit either of you that this was it; that Hawkins High would no longer be your world. It was scarier for you than it was for Steve because he knew deep down that he had probably peaked in high school. He had no college lined up; while you'd gone and gotten yourself a full scholarship to NYU, all he'd done was argue with his parents about his grades and why they wouldn't foot the bill for him to follow you to the city. The world was about to become bigger and scarier. The prospect of you being thousands of miles away only made it worst.
"Just one year," Steve begged, "just take one year out. The new mall is gonna be hiring loads of people and you can save up a butt ton before you go to college-"
"- I am not taking a year out, Steve!" you exclaimed. Reaching across the center console, you gave his chest a whack. "I worked my ass off the last four years so that I have enough money to go now."
"Okay, don't think about money then. Think about..."
He paused, trailing off.
"Think about what?"
"Spending time with me before I go?" he meekly asked. "We can have loads of fun! Just me and you, y'know, having one final year together before you leave me forever."
You groaned. "Steve, we've had all summer together. Also, I'm not leaving you! I'll be home literally every few weeks."
He forced a smile, eyes focusing on the road ahead. This was his last two days with you before you moved and he didn't want to spend it being sad. It was just that his heart ached in a way he never thought it would. A thousand times more than when his parents didn't show for graduation; even more than when Nancy Wheeler left him.
Steve's glance flickered over to the photo tucked away into his rearview mirror. It was a Polaroid taken over the summer; you and Steve were stood between your parents, armed wrapped around each other as you were grinning in your caps. Maybe his parents hadn't shown for him on graduation, but yours sure had, with flowers and hugs and affection for you both. Hell, they probably wouldn't have minded if he moved into your room once you were at college. It was definitely something he thought about.
"Summer doesn't feel like enough," he muttered. "Doesn't it scare you that things are changing?"
"Of course it does," you replied. "Change isn't always bad though. Things can't always stay the same, Stevie. Me staying home an extra year isn't gonna delay the inevitable."
Steve glanced in his wing mirror, indicating off the highway and pulling into your driveway. You'd had to beg him to come and help you pack; even though he'd acted like he didn't want to, he was secretly delighted at the idea. In fact, he was secretly delighted at spending any time with you.
After yelling a quick hi! to your parents, you both bounded up the stairs and into your bedroom. It was pretty much stripped now, years worth of blue tack and marks and scuffs on the wall. Your entire childhood packed neatly away into boxes; some for college, some for the attic, some for the dump. Steve in particular was drawn to the pile of photos on your nightstand. It was you and him through the years - some were a little dog-eared and frayed, but the two little kids smiling back at him never faltered.
He put them down and glanced over at you. You were sat on the bed now, having discarded your clothes for a pair of sweats and one of his hoodies. He'd leant that to you last year after a day at the lake - naturally, you'd gone running in totally unplanned in your clothes. He'd stood at the side the entire time, too scared of getting his hair wet.
That had always been one of his regrets; holding back. Not just the day at the lake, but the time you'd gone tree climbing and waved to him whilst he waited at the bottom. The time you rode all the big coasters at Coney Island and smiled at him as you went by. You were always going a thousand miles an hour and Steve just fucking stood there, waving as time passed him by. And now you were about to loop-de-loop right away from him.
He watched as you frowned in concentration, hands scrawling away at a messy to-do list. Pack, buy new toothbrush, apply for job, find class schedule. It was the most organised he'd ever seen you.
"You're being awfully quiet," you commented without even looking up. "What's on your mind?"
"Nothing's on my mind."
"Steve, please," you scoffed. "You've been my best friend for fourteen years. Don't try and act like you're not deep in thought about something. What is it? A car? A girl-"
"- kind of," he said. "I was thinking about...us."
You peered up at him, eyebrows creasing. "Us?"
"Yeah. Don't you think we're pretty great?"
"Yeah," you smiled. "You're my best friend, Steve. Nothing will ever change that."
Steve sighed to himself. Wasn't that the whole problem? You were friends. Best, best fucking friends. And even though it was no secret that you yourself had little thoughts and feelings about him, they never seemed to overlap. You'd liked him when he dated Nancy. Then by the time they'd broken up, you were hooking up with the Dungeons and Dragons kid who had been held back two years. Then by the time that ended, Steve was onto his next fling.
And now you were going away. Maybe that's why he was yearning.
"Nothing at all?"
You frowned. "Nothing."
"Not even this?"
To be honest, Steve wasn't really thinking straight. Plagued by nothing but regret and hankering, he threw aside your to-do list and dove across the bed. His hands found your waist, pulling you towards him with might. It didn't take a genius to work out what was going on; even though his actions took you by surprise, you still tangled a hand in his hair when his lips came down on yours, the other finding it's way to the loop of of his best.
He pulled you closer, tongue slipping inside your mouth. You didn't mean to let out a gentle moan as he did, but fuck. Steve Harrington was a good kisser and it was annoying that all those rumours you'd tried to ignore in high school were true.
Steve sat up, pulling you into his lap. He moved his lips from yours, moving down to just below your ear. You didn't protest, instead dropping your head in the crook of his neck.
It wasn't until there was a knock at your door that you both jumped.
The sound was like a cold bucket of water over your head, snapping you back to reality. Fuck. You'd just made out with Steve. He had never been the King of Hawkins high to you; he was the kid that tried to kill Sherm over a decade ago. The same kid who got yellow braces because he thought they looked cool. The same kid that secretly cried every time Vienna by Billy Joel came on the radio.
"Honey, how's packing going?" your mum called. "I'm going to the landfill early tomorrow so make sure that you-"
"- yeah, I will!" you cut her off, trying to catch your breath. "Thanks, mum!"
There was the fall of footsteps as she walked away, leaving you and your best friend to sit there and deal with the consequences of your actions. You were still sat in Steve's lap, cheeks warm with something that wasn't quite embarrassment. His chest was heaving in time with yours, eyes refusing to break your gaze.
"What the fuck did we just do?" you asked.
"I...uh...I kissed you. And you kissed me back, and then I put my hand here and you put yours there and-"
"- it was a rhetorical question!" you exclaimed. "Oh my god, I'm still sat in your lap."
Rolling off of him, you landed on the bed next to Steve. You immediately pulled your hood up, tugging on the strings so that it tightened around your cheeks and hid your face. The worst part of all this was that you'd enjoyed it. Had the universe - in the form of your mother - not interfered, you had no doubt in your mind that you probably would have fucked your best friend. That certainly was a jarring revelation.
"Did you..." you began, but then paused. "Had you thought about doing that for a long time?"
"Yeah, I guess," Steve admitted. "Not like constantly but there's been moments over the last few years. And then I saw you sitting there in my clothes and we're about to say goodbye and-"
"- no we're not, Steve," you grumbled. "Because I'm going to see you at Christmas, and then like every weekend after that, and...Jesus Christ. Was that meant as an impulsive thing or an actual thing?"
He shrugged. "I wouldn't kiss my best friend of fifteen years just for one night. I could go out to a shitty bar downtown and find anyone for that."
"Why now?"
"Can you blame a guy for shooting his shot?" Steve tried to joke, but you didn't laugh "I mean...yeah. Maybe I was thinking about you and I being more than you and I. It seems dumb now."
"Your timing is fucking awful, Steve Harrington," you gave him a small smile, gently running a hand over his face. "You could have asked me at any point before now and I would have said yes."
"But?"
"But I'm moving half way across the fucking country in two days!" you exclaimed. "You're my best friend and I love you but our lives are about to change. The stakes are too high and you are far too important for me to risk losing, okay?"
Steve smiled, giving you a nod. It could have been worse - it could have been a straight up no. A why fuck would I ever love you? or a broken nose. It was still rejection, but it was just...timing. Bad timing. Maybe he just had to wait.
He was okay with that.

Some time ago I did read La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman and I must say that Malcolm is such a lovely boy and his love for Lyra is absolutely heart melting.
Sincerely, Philip Pullman's creation has everything to be my favorite universe. I just can't wait to read the others books.
Steve is so dumb, I love him.
Matt is an ass! Y/n deserves better.
Do you plan in make a part 2? If yes, can I be tagged, please? Can't wait to see Steve all worried about y/n
Summary: You and Steve hate each other. He sees your boyfriend cheat on you. Will you believe him?
Word Count: 2316
Note: Not revised. This was an idea I got while listening to Sam Smith.
Your best friend was Eddie Munson and he had introduced you to the group when you moved back to Hawkins the summer after he graduated. Eddie spent so much time with his friends, especially Dustin that you grew close to him as well. You assume this is where the hatred from Steve started.
Steve would often hear your name so much it started to piss him off. First it was simple things such as Max or Nancy skipping out on group hangouts to go to the mall or a concert with you. Then it was his two closest friends Robin and Dustin who would go to you for things instead of Steve. It started with Robin: âSorry Steve, Y/N is actually giving me a rideâ after a shift. Then came Dustin: âIâm going to ask for Y/Nâs opinionâ on his outfit for a school dance or a date. Steve felt he was slowly getting replaced. With his lack of parents and his growing insecurities, Steve could feel himself isolating and becoming lonely. Soon, he would start flaking on group activities too and stop offering rides to his friends.Â
Everyone noticed but no one knew how to bring up Steveâs absence. He would ignore their phone calls and door visits. He would be âtoo busyâ at work to talk to Robin about it. He would somehow always be âunloading boxesâ or âdoing inventoryâ in the backroom when the kids would appear.
The group then decided to have a little meeting to see what they should do about it. It was when you suggested that maybe you should go talk to him about it, that the group started piecing together your new presence in the group coincided with his new absence. After much bickering from both Wheelers about how this seemed like a bad idea, you decided to just do it anyway.
So here you were, knocking for a third time on Steve Harrington's door. Eddie, Dustin, Robin, Lucas, and Max decided to âhide outâ in Eddieâs van across the street to watch. You could definitely see them from the front door and so would Steve if he ever answered. You started getting impatient with Steve. His car was clearly in the driveway and you could hear the sound of a tv through the door.
âSteve, I know youâre in there. I can hear you.â You shouted. âIf you donât want to answer the door, Iâll just say my piece through the door.â You waited a few seconds. No reply. âOkay then, well weâre all worried about you. If me or any of the others did something to upset you, weâd like to know so we could fix it. I offered to come and speak with you because we all agreed ever since I joined the group, youâve been off. If Iâve offended you or hurt you, Iâd like to talk about it.â
The door suddenly opens and Steveâs looking as cozy and handsome as ever. Was he always this pretty? âH-hi Ste-â Your stuttering is cut short by Steveâs glaring and stern voice.
âI donât want to speak with you.â He looks over your shoulder and can see Eddieâs van with several heads poking through the windows. âYou can tell them that too. You know, since youâre this great, amazing, wonderful person. They clearly donât need me anymore since they have you. Miss perfect.â He scoffs.
âStev-â You attempt to stop him to ask what the hell is going on.
âJust go. Honestly, just get out of Hawkins. Go back to wherever the hell you came from and leave us alone. More importantly, leave me alone.â And with that the door slams in your face, leaving you in a blanket of embarrassment and anger. That was the start of your hatred for Steve.

A few years had gone by, the kids now seniors in high school. Youâd met them when they were soon to be sophomores. Steve had integrated back into the group when you dialed back on your involvement. Youâd often still hang out with Max or Lucas, and of course Eddie. But you started declining solo hangouts with Robin or Dustin and sometimes Nancy. Steve didnât want to believe or think he was only useful now that you were out of the picture, well partially, but he appreciated it. It definitely helped with the loneliness too.
Over the last two years, anytime youâd see Steve, youâd just roll your eyes and keep your snarky comments to yourself (and Eddie whoâd just chuckle and shake his head). Steve wasnât as professional as you were though. Heâd âaccidentallyâ bump into you causing you to stumble, not enough to where youâd fall or seriously hurt yourself but enough to irk you and distract from whatever task you were doing. If you are at movie nights, heâd steal the entire bowl of popcorn or take the last slice of pizza or be super obnoxious by licking the top of the soda bottle so you (or anyone else) could have some. Of course Eddie would defend your honor and tell Steve to lay off and share his snacks with you, but it started to become too much. And there was the name calling: you forgot what time a hangout was? Youâre dumb. You got over excited about a new song or movie? Youâre a dork. You were too scared to go into a haunted house? Youâre lame. So ultimately you started pulling back from the group even more.
This led you to seek friends in other places. Thatâs how you met Matt. Friend turned boyfriend. Youâd met while on a solo trip to the arcade. Heâd noticed you were playing Pac-Man alone and offered to play with you. Youâd spent the entire night playing games and shared a basket of fries and chicken tenders. After exchanging phone numbers, youâd promise to see each other again.Â
A few weeks later, youâd walked hand in hand into Family Video, all smiles as you searched the racks of movies.Â
âWho the hell is that?â Steve leaned his elbows onto the counter, watching you and Matt. âSheâs got a boyfriend? Since when?â
âTheyâve been dating for like a month, you dingus. Iâd think youâd realize that since sheâs been spending less time with us.â Robin laughed quietly.
âSurprised anyone would want to date her, since sheâs a witch.â Steve smiled at a customer who approached the counter. As he made small talk and rang the man up, you and Matt separated so you could go talk to Robin. Matt continued to scan the shelves, finding something you both might like.Â
âHey girly,â you smiled at Robin. âHowâs work?â
âBetter now that youâre here.â She winked, both of you chuckling. âHow are things with Matt?â
âGood, good. Weâre having a movie night at his place.â You smiled and looked over to Steve. âWhat are you staring at?â
âNothing, nothing.â He laughed and threw his hands up in surrender. âYou know, you might like this movie here. Since you starred in it and everything.â He handed you a copy of The Wizard of Oz.
You rolled your eyes, quick to respond. âYouâre in it too ya know? You must have made a lot of money playing three roles. No heart, no brain, and a coward. I guess it didnât take much to play those roles.â
âShe got you there, Steve.â Robin laughed.Â
âMatt, Iâm going to wait outside.â You called.
âOkay babe, Iâm almost done choosing.â He smiled, grabbing a copy of Grease. âHey man, just this one.â He handed it to Steve.
âSure thing.â He sighed and rang Matt up. Steve watched as Matt made his way out to you, throwing an arm around your shoulders and walking to his car. Steve scowled while Robin snickered. âWhatâs funny?â
âOh dude, youâre so jealous.â Robin hopped onto the counter. âYou like Y/N.â
âAbsolutely not.â Steve faked a gag. âSheâs the worst.â
âWhy do you hate her so much? She literally never did anything.â Robin kicked Steveâs hip with her foot.
âShe tried to replace me!â He argued.
âShe did not. She had just moved here and her only friend was Eddie. She just wanted to make friends. You,â She kicked his butt cheek as he turned to leave from behind the counter. âGot jealous and blew up on her.â
âDid not.â
âDid too. And now you like her.â Robin hopped off the counter. âYou try to hide it by being mean to her but you really like her.â She starts to make kissing noises. âYouâre such a cliche Harrington.â
âAm not.â He tosses a rag toward her. âAnd I donât like her.â
_
To say this night was a mess was a huge understatement. Not only had Steveâs comments actually hurt, but Matt was acting completely like Danny Zuko. Youâd been watching Grease on his couch, snuggled under a blanket, when he tried to pull a move like Danny did to Sandy. Youâd declined because you wanted to just watch the movie but he insisted. Then he made you feel guilty about not kissing him yet. You hadnât had a serious kiss before and wanted to wait a bit. Your first kiss was with Eddie, a friendship pact to kiss each other and get it over with before you both turned 18. It was not good and youâd both laughed while it was happening. Now that you were looking to get serious with someone, you wanted a good first kiss redo.
The night had ended abruptly after you rushed off the couch and told Matt youâd see him later. You promised to call him when you got home. That call was not answered on his end.Â
You tried calling him several times over the weekend but they all went unanswered. Had you messed up? No, he messed up. He was the one behaving like an idiot. You decided youâd go to his house and squash this entire thing Monday night after your morning shift.
What you hadnât known was that heâd been preoccupied all weekend with his ex girlfriend Annalise.Â

âYouâre just trying to hurt Y/N. That didnât happen Steve. Itâs not funny.â Robin rolled her eyes.Â
âIâm not Robin! I saw him. He had his arm wrapped around this girl that was not Y/N!â Steve followed her around the store as she reshelved returned tapes. âHis tongue was down her throat. I swear.â
âHow do you even know it was Matt?â She turned to face him, jumping when she realized just how close he was.
âHe had on that stupid sweater vest and that lame haircut. I know it was him. Now you have to call Y/N and tell her.â He urged.Â
âWhy donât you call and tell her yourself?â Robin shrugged. âYou actually saw them.â
âSheâll believe you. Sheâll never trust my word.â Steve pleaded. âPlease, you have to tell her.â He grabbed the movie from her. âPlease.â He whispered.
âI love Y/N but Steve, I didnât see it and I donât want to speak about something I donât know about. Maybe ask Eddie to talk to her.â Robin snatched the movie back from Steve.
âIf I tell Eddie, weâll both be forced to kick this guyâs ass. Iâd like to avoid going to jail for murder.â Steve sighed. âPlease just talk to Y/N.â
âTalk to me about what?â Your voice carried across the store as their heads snapped to the door. The bell above the door definitely needed to be fixed. How did they not hear you come in? âCat got your tongue?â You laughed and approached the counter.
âI was just telling Robin that you forgot to return Grease. It was due yesterday.â Steve muttered.Â
âActually, itâs under Mattâs name. So he forgot to return it. You can give him a call.â You shrugged. âNot sure if heâll answer the phone though.â You sighed.
âWell, what brings you in?â Steve asked nervously. There was no normal tone of annoyance or snarkiness laced in his words. You raised an eyebrow.
âWas just looking to speak to Robin actually. Girl problems.â You turn to look for her but sheâs nowhere to be found. âRobin? Whereâd she go?â
Steveâs just as clueless as you. He clears his throat and steps behind the counter. âSo, um⌠how are things?â
âHow are things?â You chuckle. âWhy do you care?â
âIâm just trying to make small talk to fill in the awkwardness of this interaction.â He replies honestly. âHowâs Matt?â
âI donât know.â You lean against the counter. âHe hasnât been answering my calls. We kind of had a weird thing happen Friday night. Thatâs what I came by to ask Robin ab-â
âHeâs cheating on you.â Steve blurts.
Your body tenses and you lean off the counter. âWhat?â
âHeâs cheating. I saw him with another girl.â
âThatâs not funny, Steve.â You glare at him, eyes narrowing. âYouâre always so mean but this is super hurtful.â
âIâm not making a joke Y/N. I saw him!â He steps out from behind the counter as you start to back away. âI wanted to tell you but I knew you wouldnât believe me.â
âWho else knows? Who else was there?â You ask quietly, tears springing into your eyes.
âJust me.â He sighs. âI was grabbing food after work when I saw-â
âWhen? What day?âÂ
âFriday night. I thought it wasnât him because he shouldâve been with you.â He steps forward. âBut he was wearing that vest with the diamond pattern. The green one. Thatâs how I remembered him.â
Suddenly, unfortunately, the bell signaling a new customer went off. Both you and Steve jumped at the sound, looking to the door.
âWelcome to Family Video!â Robin shouted as she entered from the back room. Her eyes flickered between Steve and you. You had to get out of there. And you did. Running as fast as possible back to your car.Â

Steven Grant had a shit day.
No matter what he did, Donna was right behind him to tell him he did it wrong. The rudest group of tourists came through the museum gift shop. He dropped his lunch on the ground. It felt like everything that could go wrong did go wrong today. So, with a heavy sigh, he made his way home where hopefully he could rest and restart tomorrow anew.
But, as he walked through the hallway towards his flat, movement caught his eye. Steven looked up from where his gaze was fixed on the ground and he noticed that someone new was moving in next door. There were boxes everywhere and he heard the chatter of the movers from inside.
That was when he saw you.
