A/n: ah I wanted to write more for Hu Tao but I also didn’t want to neglect Yanfei and Ningguang 🥲

• Hu Tao didn't mind that you never talked. She adopted the mindset that if you were silent, then she’d just have to talk enough for the both of you. Everyday was full of noise with Hu tao around.

• She was insensitive at first because she didn’t know any better. She never considered the fact that you might be mute, she always assumed it was by choice. After a couple of weeks, her antics died down but continued to hang around you by habit.

• Hu Tao was initially drawn in by you because you were so quiet and seemingly unaffected by her pranks. Someone immune to her tricks was impossible so she made it her goal to infiltrate your social bubble.

• Little did she know she ended up in a relationship with you because you were the only one who could tolerate her.

You grew accustomed to your odd relationship with Hu Tao. She would find you on the streets and follow you for hours, chatting about anything and everything. You allowed it because sometimes the silence was lonely, and Hu Tao made you feel all bubbly inside. 

“So today there was this unbelievable dude. Ayaaa~ he just makes me mad thinking about him. He slammed the door on my face and everything,” She told you an unworldly story that sounded almost unbelievable. “I wish you were there, you could’ve defended me right?”

You just sat there in silence staring at your feet. “Ah- that’s what I expected,” Hu Tao almost sounded somber at your unresponsiveness. “I guess it can’t be helped, you accept me for who I am at least and that’s all that matters. I mean, that’s a pretty big feat. not that many can stand my big personality.” She tried cheering herself up. 

“Wow look at those finches.” You said nonchalantly pointing at a nearby pond. Hu Tao interrupted her own thoughts, not even paying attention to what you said, just that you said something in general. She was in absolute shock, you won’t speak to her after all the awful pranks, but you would speak for a bird?

“What the-! You just spoke didn’t you?!” She was in disbelief. “I knew you could speak, you were just shy! Say can you speak again? Say ‘Hu Tao’ for me.” She wouldn’t stop talking at a raised volume, you honestly didn’t see the big deal.

• Yanfei wasn't the most talkative, so you'd have some holes of silence in your conversations. But she was willing to keep up with you even if she was the only one talking.

• You had a knack for pissing off the people of Liyue because you never responded. Yanfei being a legal advisor, heard quite a bit of negative rumors about you. She thought maybe she could break your shell and prevent anymore legal catastrophes caused by your silence.

• Yanfei began randomly making appearances in your life. Once she got to know you, she knew you were nothing but a gentle soul. She became your guardian angel in a way, and with her loud mouth and knowledge would defend you if anyone spoke poorly on your name.

• Her protective instinct over you became second nature. And spending that much time with you on her mind made her develop feelings for you via proximity.

Yanfei had a spare key to your home, sometimes she would just visit to rant to you about people who wouldn’t follow her advice. She found it nice that you just listened and never talked back or put your two cents to the matter.

She lounged on the same couch as you, sitting on the opposite end resting her legs on your lap. You merely listened to her like always like her little therapist. “You won’t believe this one guy. Ah, I can’t stand how stupid some of my clients can be.” She seemed stressed. 

“I mean seriously? I tell them one simple instruction to remain silent and you know what they do?” She waited as if she were going to receive a response. “Go straight and report everything to the Millelth... How can they expect me to get them out of that? All I can do now is try to lighten their sentence.”

“Wow, that guy is seriously dumb.” You said interrupting Yanfei’s story. It took her a moment of silence to process what you had said.

“Ah- you spoke,” Yanfei had a contorted face of confusion. “Wait a minute, you spoke!” She was freaking out. She immediately sat up from her position, all over you in curiosity. She had an undying quench to learn every detail about you, and to find out you can speak? Mindblowing.

“Wait so have you been able to speak this entire time? Why did you decide to speak now after all this time? Can you speak now? Are you afraid to speak?” She asked you a barrage of nonstop questions. To tease her more, you chose to not answer any of them.

• Ningguang was silent with you, only talking when necessary. This lady specialized in haggling, so when there was no voice of response it made it somewhat awkward for her.

• Ningguang honestly found your silence charming. It prevented you from saying stupid quips which were her pet peeve. But your silence was a double-edged sword as you often got taken advantage of.

• Ningguang would often speak on your behalf. If someone tried to verbally assault you she would bring her reign of terror on them. The condescending words from the Tianquan hurt them like poison.

• Ningguang admitted she took more than just a liking to your presence even if it were uneventful. You were a source of comfort for her.

Ningguang treated you like a puppy. You followed her around like a loyal dog because she defended you. However, It was a mutual commitment, only because she secretly enjoyed the power she had over you.

You sat beside her while she processed some paperwork, a cup full of tea beside her. Sometimes she would ask common questions such as what food you’d like for tonight. But otherwise, it was dead silent.

Not that you didn’t appreciate spending time in her office, it’s just that it occasionally got boring just watching Ningguang do her paperwork. It was quiet, away from the noise on Liyue’s streets, but too quiet. You could almost hear the echo of your breathing.

“Say, do you want me to preorder something from Wanmin? I’m getting hungry,” You said. Ningguang almost dropped her feathered pen at the sound of your voice. She looked at you fascinated, but it quickly died down.

“Wow, so you can talk?” She yawned, her maturity level not willing to overreact at the revelation. She didn’t even answer your question. “Well you could’ve fooled me. I won’t pressure you to continue but you have a lovely voice, it would be nice to hear it more often.”

KAEDEHARA KAZUHA sits atop that one special rock that overlooked a small river in liyue with a soft smile on his face, watching the sunset as it casts a colourful glow over the river. his hand momentarily caresses the rock, looking for that particular warm feeling of your hand beside him, but then he remembers that you weren't there anymore, and that smile fades away along with the sunset.

"I can't lose you, too."

XINYAN strums her guitar onstage, her fingers gliding over each chord with ease. she prepares to sing the song you both wrote while huddling underneath a blanket on that frosty night, lifting her head to scan over the crowd searching for those distinct eyes she had grown to see full of admiration and love for her. her fingers hesitate, her breath cuts short, you're no longer there. the music breaks, along with her heart.

summary: a strange gift is left on your desk; just who could be the mystery sender? (genshin impact scaramouche, yanfei, xiao, & hu tao x reader)

scaramouche:

the box is crudely wrapped; the blue wrapping paper crinkled and ripped like whoever was gifting it was doing so on a deadline. your first instinct is that this is a package that was dropped off of a mail cart, but upon seeing your name written plainly on the tag outside, your curiosity is piqued.

inside is a folded piece of parchment, the wax seal keeping it closed could belong to none other but the balladeer. the box inside contains more parchment, these wrapped up more carefully. upon inspection, they're music sheets, compositions for lyre song that you suspect was written by scaramouche himself.

the note written to you reads; "celebrating one's day of birth is something for sentimental fools... but it has been a long while since i have last seen you, and felt this would be the best time to check and see if you're still alive. i know you must miss me so, but trust that in time, we will be reunited. if you're lucky, i may even play that song for you."

underneath the smudged ink at the bottom reads: "don't get too cocky knowing i wrote this song for you... you just so happen to be the only person i can stand. and i don't wish to owe you one from you giving me a gift on my birthday last year so ...happy birthday".

yanfei:

perfect would be too lax a word to describe just how beautifully decorated that box that sits in front of you is. the wrapping is a rose gold, golden and pastel pink bows tied neatly around its sides. it's symmetrical all around, and that alone clues you in as to who is the gifter of your birthday present. fresh silk lilies sit cut in a vase beside it, no doubt an extra gift from your favorite lawyer.

it almost feels criminal to open it, but eventually you do, and find a card on honey yellow paper sitting on top of another box of the same color.

the card reads; "happy birthday! i can't believe it has been a year that i've spent with you. each and every day i am with you is far too short, which is why tomorrow i've taken off of work so we can do something extra special, all-day long together. i love you! so, so much! and hope you like your gift. here's to many, many more birthdays spent together!"

inside the box is a beautifully ornate memories book, each page filled with pictures from your dates together. the lantern festival, the moonchase festival, your first and most recent dates — everything was recorded visually. along with little notes about yanfei's most memorable moment from each day, or pressed flowers that you had gifted her sealed within the pages. you could see how deep her affections ran with each and every word.

xiao:

there is no wrapping, and instead the gift lays out on your desk in the open, a piece of paper folded unevenly sitting beside it. a fresh cut of qingxin flowers tied up with twine. those flowers were notoriously hard to find; did he spend all morning gathering these up before delivering them to you? or was hopping across mountaintops easy work for an adeptus?

it was obvious by the messy scrawled handwriting that it was xiao's gift. the note reads; "i hope you like the small gift i got for you. i know mortal's birthdays are a big deal to them, so i thought you might like something like this... anyways, if you would like to see me simply call out my name. anytime, anywhere i will be there for you." and then, much messier, scratched out at the bottom reads: "this may seem like a selfish request but... if we could dance in the light of the fireflies tonight, together... i feel that would be... never mind."

underneath the note lay a small hairpin, shaped like a butterfly in beautiful turquoise and purple. he put a lot of thought into making you happy.

hu tao:

you know what hu tao's gift boxes look like. she often likes pranking you by putting lizards or frogs inside of them and leaving them at your doorstep. but this time the wrapping is more fun, more colorful; and there are no air holes poked into the top. it is a plain paper box with doodles all over it — mostly comprising of you and her holding hands, along with some of her ghost friends. it makes a smile grow on your face.

taking off the top of the box, inside are a whole bunch of knick-knacks; pretty crystals and wildflowers surrounding the center wherein lays paper dolls of the two of you, holding hands like on the outside of the box. underneath is a hand-knitted sweater, a cute ghost embroidered on each of the sleeve ends, and stitching on the chest that reads "HU TAO WANTS ME, SPIRITS FEAR ME". what would a gift from hu tao be if not a bit embarrassing.

"happy, happy, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! hehe, i hope you like your gift, i promise it's not cursed or anything — i actually made it with lots and lots of love! i'm glad i've gotten to see you grow in this coming year. no matter where you go, your favorite boo tao will be with you! so let's enjoy the time we have together, until we die!"

“Little miss Hu Tao? You have been acting strange lately, is everything alright?”

“Of course not Mr Zhongli! I’m sick!” Her hands flapped around, feet padding against the wooden floorboards. Her mind was running a mile a minute, your smile only being the thing she pictured in the back of her mind.

“Oh? Is it contagious?”

Xingqui’s laugh cut through her thoughts. “Hahah, not that kind of sick. she’s got the case of love.”

Zhongli coughed, readjusting his tie as he sighed. “I see, we’ll I have no experience in that department I’m afraid.” Making his way back to his desk to continue some paperwork.

“Expected.”

Hu Tao flopped onto the floor, her hands covering her bright red face as her friends laughed at her suffering. Picking and prying at her to tell them all her feelings while she tried to contain her rapid beating heart.

“So…. [Name] huh?”

“Shut it!”

She sighed, sitting up as she crossed her legs. The group of trouble makers cheered, sitting down to join her as they new she was going to spill out all her adoration.

Hu Tao smiled, not even having to think about it since she remembered every second the two of you spent together.

The group nodded sarcastically, nudging each other as they laughed. She wined, she was nice! Why else would she help people burry their loved deceased ones?

“Okay okay, what happened next?”

She sighed, resting her head in her palm as she stared out into the window. She remembered the smile you gave her as she handed you your stuff, your face was just breathtaking. The most perfect one she has ever seen all across Liyue.

“Her smile? Just perfect, and and and our hands touched! Her hands were so soft, the most delicate fingers too!”

“Uh huh? What else?”

“Oh! And her hair! How could I forget! It looked so beautiful! It really framed her face so well! How could someone just be so perfect.”

Her pupils were basically hearts at this point, the deeply smile really told the group what they needed to know.

She shook her head, trying to shake away the thoughts of you that crowded her mind. Fingers coming up to run through her hair while she sighed.

They nodded, watching as she fell back with a squeal. Her face was as red as a pyro slime, probably as hot as one too at the thought of being with you.

She sat up, her eyes wide as she stared at her friends as if they were crazy.

There you stood, hands shaking while you held a basket full of fresh fruit you must have picked for this occasion.

Your gaze was looking at your feet, avoiding Hu Tao’s that were staring at your face with wide eyes.

“O-oh hey [Name], how are.. how are you doing?”

Suddenly she was pulled up and pushed in your direction, looking back to Xianling who grabbed the others and walked for the other door. “Nows your time!”

She watched as her friends left, pulling Zhongli up by the arm and taking him with them.

She was sweating, doing everything she could to not look at you. Her hands gripping onto the hem of her shirt as she whistled.

“Did you mean it?”

“Hmm?”

She finally mustered up the courage to look you in your eyes, seeing you look at her with a nervous look.

“That you like me, did you mean that?”

She sighed, hand on her neck while she wiping the sweat her forehead before sighed.

‘You’re too deep in now, no point hiding it anymore.’

“Yes, I did. I really like you [Name], a lot.”

The nerves made her body tingle, anxiously waiting for your response with anticipation.

She saw you open your mouth before closing it, debating on what you wanted to say. Oh no, is she going to say no?

You stepped forward, your face being right in front of hers as you smiled. “Of course I like you, in fact I was going to tell you today actually.”

She watched as you brought your hand to her face, fingers holding her cheeks delicately as you brought your face closer to place a soft kiss on top of her nose.

You smiled, pulling away as you watched Hu Tao blush. Her cheeks were a bright rosy red as she gave you a derpy smile, too in love to respond.

“Would you want to.. I don’t know, go on a picnic somewhere?” You asked, bringing the food up to show her all the fruit you brought.

“Yes! Let’s go to Wuwang hill! They have loads of cool things there! Come one lets go!” Grabbing you hand, she pulled you along the streets of Liyue. Both of you smiling as you ran your way to your date spot, both as happy as could be in this moment.

They all watched as you guys ran, smiling as they watched her friend finally find the love she deserved.

“When are you going to get a girlfriend old man?”

• Eula met you first in the tavern, she couldn’t take her eyes off of you. To her, you were an anomaly. Someone like her could never truly stray from her aristocratic nature, so you were a breath of fresh air.

• Eula became friends with you and had a very unusual attitude towards you. She would try and sway you towards her romantically with her words and drop flirtatious hints. You would notice them but you just thought it was her personality.

• The night she confessed was at the same tavern she met you at, the alcohol giving her a surplus of confidence. You were Eula’s safety net and your duty was to take her home at the end of the night, so you remained sober.

You were taking Eula home, her body slumped around yours as you supported the drunken woman. You decided enough was enough when her speech was slurred and she was phasing in and out of consciousness. “You know, hic... as a part of the Lawrence clan. My father was never really kind to me.” 

You knew that Eula never got emotional around you unless she was intoxicated. “He would fire all the nannies that I grew attached to because they were not beneficial network sources,” Eula stopped in her tracks, you couldn’t force her to continue walking. “Besides Master Jean and Amber, you were the first I’ve allowed my heart to truly open to.”

She moved her body closer to yours, despite having such an icy cold persona her body emitted the most comforting warmth to you. She stared directly into your eyes, her face stressed with glossy eyes. “I must admit I like you. It’s more than a like that I can describe. I like Amber, but I like you marginally more, can you explain to me what this heartache is whenever I see you?”

You wanted to pretend you didn’t hear what she said. Eula Lawrence? Liking you? You were in disbelief. It’s not that you didn’t like her, did you like her the same way she liked you? You never gave it a second thought, let alone consider yourself on the same plane as her. 

Not to mention she was far too drunk to understand her own words. You prayed she wouldn’t remember this night like many nights before so she wouldn’t seek you out for vengeance. You convinced yourself what she said wasn’t real. “I’m sorry Eula.” That was all you could say before mustering the strength to drag her body to her house. 

You swore you felt Eula’s body upon yours tremble- not from the cold, but from your unresponsiveness. Even though drunk, she couldn’t drop her pride.

• Hu Tao first met you on one of her advertising expeditions around Liyue. Your address was last on her list after having the door slammed in her face a multitude of times. Although you rejected her, unlike the rest, you were kind and gentle with her.

• You would’ve never guessed Hu Tao had a crush on you in a million years. You were frequently visited by her to the point where you would consider her a friend over an acquaintance. She would knock on your door constantly and give you little gadgets from the funeral parlor or pull little pranks on you. 

 • Hu Tao confessed to you 100% on an impulse. She just randomly had an overwhelming surge of emotion for you, she wouldn’t know what to do if she didn’t tell you right then and there. She didn’t even think about how you might respond.

Since Hu Tao kind of had a screw loose she would end up regretting spilling her emotions out to you. She had a rough day admittedly, seeking you for comfort she knocked on your door, once... twice, no answer. With an audible sigh, she turned around to find you approaching your porch with an arm full of groceries. 

“Hu Tao! Pleasant to see you drop by. It’s been a while hasn’t it?” And there you were, her knight in shining armor. You were always there whether you knew it or not to shine such a warm kindness when everyone else wasn’t. “So how’s business at the Funeral Parlor treating you? I’ll purchase a couple of trinkets to keep business running if need be.” 

She ran at a full sprint to greet you excitedly. Her sudden disappointment turning into excitement was too much for her little heart to handle, it felt like she was going to explode. She ran so fast you swore you saw little yellow butterflies appear behind her. She knocked you over with a bear hug along with all your wrapped vegetables and meats.

“IthinkIlikeyou,” She eeped super duper fast. So fast, you didn’t think you heard her correctly so you asked her to repeat herself. “I said- I think I like you.” She was more confident in her confession, but you weren’t.

You stared at her with wide eyes, Hu Tao liking you? This girl who you so fatefully accepted one night and was so ambitiously quirky. You were in denial, you always looked up to her with respect. But you couldn’t translate that respect into love, more like admiration of her courage. “I’m sorry Hu Tao... I don’t think I see you in that way,” you said at a low mumble, loud enough for Hu Tao to hear your response.

She scurried off of you before dusting herself off, now allowing you to see her face. “Pretend I didn’t say that... please. I’ll let you go now, see ya later~,” Although her words were bubbly, you could tell the aching behind them.

Activities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?

Hu Tao is quite the prankster and eccentric person. She will try to get you two to do the  activities that she picks. She particularly likes to go to various new places to meet new people. She’s not the most social and likeable person, she doesn’t really understand why some people are scared of her, but meeting new people is super exciting for her. Date wise, I think she’d prefer to be somewhere quiet, and quite frankly, a little dark and creepy as well. If you spot any ghosts or spirits, don’t fear, she gets super excited and wants to show off. However, if the two of you don’t really feel like traveling all the way out of the city, she’s content taking you to a nice restaurant and just having fun with you.  

She has a pretty hefty and important job at the funeral parlor, so you won’t be able to spend every single moment with her, but if you do happen to take a job there then she does her best to be involved with you as much as possible. She finds the people at her job so boring and spending time with you always brings a smile to her face. To make up for the times she’s busy, she loves to just whisk you away on a date somewhere in the harbor or Wuwang Hill. 

Please plan pranks with her. She’s a little scared of asking you, but it would mean the world to her if you two planned on pretending there’s a ghost in Xiangling’s kitchen. Y’all would be the perfect prankster duo that everyone in Liyue fears. 

Comfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?

She’s not the most experienced in being very serious, but for you she absolutely is trying her hardest. It hurts her so much to see you upset and she wants nothing more than to make you feel better. I feel like she’d try to make some stupid jokes making fun of Baizhu, which never fails to make the two of you smile. She will hug you and let you vent if you need to do that as well. She’s the type to try to make you laugh so hard that you forget what you were even crying over in the first place. However, sometimes she’ll serenade you with a gruesome poem that she wrote, which is surprisingly helpful in making you feel better. 

 Kiss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?

She’d be a little awkward in initiating affection during the beginning of your relationship, but later on she simply becomes the best. She likes to hold you close to her when you two are kissing, and, if you’re okay with it, she likes to wrap her arms around your waist and lock you into place by her side. Also loves to bombard you with kisses across your face. It’s pretty random, but you would never complain. 

I imagine that your first kiss with Hu Tao will be on a whim whilst doing something fun or going exploring. I actually don’t see her as the type to initiate the first kiss, because she’ll just be so excited to be hanging out with you that she’s too busy admiring you to go in for the kiss. As far as first kisses go, it would be a pretty good and passionate one where the two of you just enjoy each other’s presence. She loves you so much. 

Wild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon

Hu Tao is a chaotic human being and sometimes needs to be grounded by none other than Big Dong Zhong himself. One such instance was when she was doing her own thing and scaring Qiqi which ended up with Zhongli coming and speaking with her. Granted it went through one ear and out the other, but it definitely solidified their father-daughter like relationship. He was never REALLY able to control her, but he was getting really good at giving her advice and she started talking to him a little more about decisions to make. Your relationship was certainly no exception to this! 

Zhongli was the first person that Hu Tao spoke to when she thought of proposing to you. She recognizes the shortness of life and wants to spend every moment of hers with you. Zhongli was very helpful in picking out a moment for her to pop the question and helped set up the surprise. He will definitely be officiating that wedding and crying the whole time.
