The car smells like Jack. He always forgot body spray on his mad rush out the door in the morning so he took to keeping a can in the glovebox. Sammy sits in the driver’s seat with a death grip on the steering wheel, his knuckles standing out like strings of pearls. In the passenger seat is the packed bag he found by the front door months ago.
It was months ago. It took that long to negotiate a way out of their contract at the station. And maybe Sammy was hoping for a miracle, hoping for a late-night phone call or the sound of a key in the lock. If he waited a little longer, dragged his feet, Jack would make his own way home.
But Sammy is sitting in a car that smells like Jack, with a bag in the passenger seat where his boyfriend should be, and his phone in the cup holder with the GPS waiting on his first move.
It’s a hard move to make. Sammy is a coward. He wants to go back inside. Back into their house, even though the mail is on hold and the gas and water has been shut off. Back into the life he and Jack built with each other, for each other.
But this is the only way back. Leaving now is the only way to go back home.
Jack, Sammy thinks.
He presses the clutch and shifts into first gear. He doesn’t slow down until the fuel gauge is on empty, seven hundred miles away. Then he pulls into the first gas station off the interstate and has a quiet panic attack.
It’s only for his benefit that it’s quiet, really. To keep some semblance of control. He could have made a scene if he wanted to. It’s one o’clock in the morning in the Middle of Nowhere, Northern Oregon, and Sammy is alone. He could fall to the ground and scream and be long gone before some unfortunate morning employee came in and checked the CCTV.
Jack, he thinks. He doesn’t scream. He gets out to pump gas.

The look between two people in which each loves the other but is too afraid to make the first move.
Declan is only at Nino’s in the first place because he’s standing up a girl he’s supposed to be taking to the movies. It’s always a crapshoot whether Matthew will remember where Declan said he’d be at any given moment, but he doesn’t want to risk it, to show up at their room and have Matthew ask, bright-eyed, what happened to his date. And then he’ll have to lie, because one time he didn’t lie and Matthew just stared at him for a full minute of processing time and then said, “That’s mean,” and even though there was nothing after that, Declan ended up calling and apologizing (and lying, obviously–he said his little brother was sick and heavily implied that said brother was between the ages of four and seven). Then they ended up making a second date, and he didn’t stand her up again because he isn’t a monster, but he desperately wanted to and it showed.
So this is what he’s been reduced to: lurking in the back booth of a second-rate pizza shop googling the runtime of Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter (really, deeply, unbelievably not his choice) to more convincingly fake a date when all he wants to do is lie down and nurse the bruises hidden under his button-up. Just as he’s thinking that his day cannot possibly get any more demoralizing, Gansey walks in, and in the split second Declan spends pretending to be too dignified to hide under the table, Gansey sees him. And Declan sees Gansey seeing him, and so by the rules they both live by, they’re obligated to acknowledge each other.

SKAM FRANCE LANGUAGE DETAILS & CONTEXT E3S3
Here we go again. Some important slangs and context to explain in this episode. “Elle a quoi ta mère gros” Translated as “man” or not translated at all. “Gros” laterally means “fat” but it’s used by young “cool” boys to call one an other like “bro/buddy”. It regularly used in the show. Just so you know, the insult “fag” in french is “PD” (pédé). The forum message use this word saying “it’s the supreme insult” and it kind of is, even it’s still used by bigot adults and elderly people to say “gay”…… “vénère” verlan for énervé = angry/to get angry. Once again, this derivation of the original word is not used above a certain age usually… ALSO. In addition to verlan, we shorten words by removing one syllable at the end of the word. MANY everyday words are used by their short version instead of the original, by everyone and all the time. Like Resto (restaurant), fac (faculté), promo (promotion), ciné (cinéma), ordi (ordinateur=computer), sympa (sympathique=nice), perso (personnellement=personally) and sooooo on. But young people use it even more, for the same aim as verlan : to sound cooler. In episode 2 Eliott “Je peux te dépan’” (I can help you) it’s short for ‘dépanner” Episode 3 (6:53) , Forum message “Donc c’est tout bénèf’” (It’s all positive) it’s short for “bénéfique” which means beneficial/positive effect. Basile 7:39 “… mais je balance ton porc grave” “I’ll denounce pigs” ‘balance ton porc’ is the expression used for the “me too” movement in France basically (#MeToo/#BalanceTonPorc). It means “denounce your pig” and the goal was to denounce sexual harassment and perverts. So here, Basile says “I just wanna fuck, but I’m “mee too’ too !” basically. grave is just to emphasize on the message he just said. “Kiffance” (party password) translated as “Amazeballs” Basically, this word doesn’t exist. You can hear pretty often the verb “kiff/kiffer” in the show (tu la kiff/elle te kiff/je kiff!) which means to like. And it’s one of those words that young people use all the time. My grandmother or even my father would never use this word, they would say “j’adore” or “j’aime bien” which means to like. “Ils vont vraiment ken là ?” / “Are they seriously gonna fuck?” Ken is verlan for niquer : Quéni / Kéni / Ken. Niquer means to fuck or to beat someone up. Very young-ish word. 19:35 Lucas says “Allez” to Eliott. It’s translated as “Okay”. But more than an “okay”, here, he is saying “Let’s go”. Like he is letting himself go, letting his barriers down to follow Eliott in whatever he is going to do with him.

I feel like whenever this discourse comes up of Tony being some evil mustache twirling war profiteer, it’s often glossed over that Tony wasn’t making weapons because “hahaha he’s evil and likes to watch people die” - he makes weapons so that people would be safe, literally he makes his weapons with more accurate targeting for the specific purpose to avoid collateral damage - he wants more effective and accurate weapons so that soldiers fighting wouldn’t have to needlessly die - why do you think he mocked Hammer and his tech for so long? Because they’re defective, they’re inadequate, they’re second rate, and people would be hurt by Hammer’s tech than actually save - why do you think the military and Rhodey went to Tony? Because they knew his tech wouldn’t fail or jam up on them when they’re in a firefight
Sure you can argue the morals of supplying soldiers for a war, but is it really that blameworthy that you want your side to be able to stay safe and win a war that you didn’t start? Because last I checked, Tony isn’t the one starting any wars, he didn’t make any of that decision - he’s only ever tried to make sure that his country and the troops were the best equipped - just like he builds weapons and tech to best equip his fellow Avengers, would that now be war profiteering too?
People also like to gloss over that Stark Industries also isn’t solely weapons development - Tony even mentions in Iron Man 1 that a lot of their other research projects in other departments like phones and energy and crops are funded by military funding they receive in exchange for tech - in fact he’s more involved in R&D in those departments than making things that blow up.
And really, why is it that people like to forget Obadiah Stane? As if Tony somehow just ended up kidnapped magically? As if he just happened to get his own weapon in his chest by coincidence? It’s like it’s forgotten how selectively Tony is about whom his tech is given to - the only reason Tony ever got hit by his own weapon isn’t because he was carelessly selling his weapons to anyone, but precisely because Obadiah was lying and double dealing to terrorists this whole time.
Tony Stark didn’t suddenly shut down his weapons development division because he got hurt by his own bombs - he shut it down because he realized that his weapons that he thought were controlled and in the right hands, were literally stolen out from under him and given to terrorists to be used on innocent people - call him naive, ignorant, and privileged, those are all true, but shutting down his weapons manufacturing was never about himself and how he got a taste of his own medicine but rather the event of his attack made him realize that what he had thought were his weapons used safely and right, now he knows they weren’t and he didn’t look deep enough to see it before and now he can’t ignore it and things have to change. The bombing on himself wasn’t the reason for the change, the bombing was the initial event that landed him in the situation where he discovered the reason to change.
Why do you think Obadiah tried to kill Tony? Why do you think he lied all this time? Because he knew that if Tony ever learned the truth, Tony wouldn’t be okay with it, and he was right, because as soon as Tony saw that his weapons were actually gettting into the hands of terrorists who just wanna hurt people - he totally shut it all down.
You can blame Tony for being naive in trusting Obadiah to run the company (even though Obadiah was a trusted family friend whom Tony relied on growing up), you can blame Tony for not looking deeply and carefully into where all his weapons were going, you can blame him for caring more about just inventing things than actually what is really being run in his company under his own nose - but you cannot blame Tony Stark for the actions of Obadiah Stane who decided to sell weapons to terrorists, who decided to lie to Tony about it and have Tony killed so Tony couldn’t stop him.
Tony Stark built his tech with all the intentions that they’d be used the right way, that nobody would get hurt but the bad guys - maybe that’s naive, maybe that’s stupid, and maybe that’s careless, the road to hell is often paved with good intentions after all - but let’s not forget that Tony Stark never sold weapons to terrorists, never lied and double dealed away his weapons so bad guys could use it - yes he made weapons for the military, but remember that it wasn’t simply because of that’s what was expected of him as his father’s son, but also because Rhodey was military liaison, Tony trusted Rhodey and if Rhodey believed then Tony would too. Tony trusted Rhodey do always do the right thing so why wouldn’t Tony give him weapons that would help him.

Tears fill my eyes as I read the words on my screen. The world seems to stop spinning for the slightest second as I re-read the anonymous message over and over again, gripping on to the hope that the words will magically disappear. But they didn’t. Anon had done it; they’d figured out that the only way to make me take off my hijab was to call my hair ugly. My one weakness.
A tear streams down my left cheek.
Eight years of academy hijab training…wasted. I had to prove this extremely relevant and good-looking anonymous person wrong, I cared too much about what they thought. How could I live my life knowing that there is one person out there who thinks probably my hair is ugly maybe? How could I look myself in the mirror? How could I face my family? My shoulders shook as I cried silently, and my chair squeaked ever so slightly at the vibrations; as if it, too, was crying in sorrow.
It wasn’t until that moment that the second part of the message dawned on me… how would I prove them wrong without breaking the rules? Was it really against the rules? I reach into my hijab and pull out a scroll. At the very top, in cursive jet-black inked letters, the word ‘Rules’ stares back at me. My heart is racing as my eyes frantically read the scroll.
‘Rule #1: no killing people,’ it reads. I let out a whimper. There go my evening plans.
Suddenly, my eye catches the next words. The scroll is rustling in my trembling hands as I turn my face away, tears spraying out of my eyes like the spit of a white person as they try to justify racism. The cursive words felt more like a curse of words, vivid and refusing to disappear as if I were still staring at them even through my closed eyes.

Bzeek, a quiet, devout Libyan-born Muslim who lives in Azusa, just wants her to know she’s not alone in this life.

The children were going to die.
Mohamed Bzeek knew that. But in his more than two decades as a foster father, he took them in anyway — the sickest of the sick in Los Angeles County’s sprawling foster care system.
He has buried about 10 children. Some died in his arms.
Now, Bzeek spends long days and sleepless nights caring for a bedridden 6-year-old foster girl with a rare brain defect. She’s blind and deaf. She has daily seizures. Her arms and legs are paralyzed.
Bzeek, a quiet, devout Libyan-born Muslim who lives in Azusa, just wants her to know she’s not alone in this life.
“I know she can’t hear, can’t see, but I always talk to her,” he said. “I’m always holding her, playing with her, touching her. … She has feelings. She has a soul. She’s a human being.”

Of the 35,000 children monitored by the county’s Department of Children and Family Services, there are about 600 children at any given time who fall under the care of the department’s Medical Case Management Services, which serves those with the most severe medical needs, said Rosella Yousef, an assistant regional administrator for the unit.
There is a dire need for foster parents to care for such children.
