Oliver, say what?!?!
OLIVER SAID WHAT?! ššš¤Æš¤Æ
Buck: Do we know exactly how Bobby survived?
Chim: Yeah because we were infected at the same time, and he was fine for most of it?
Hen: His golden blood kept him safe. And even though it was a super strain, changing the way the disease spreads diminished its lethality.
Ravi: So it wasn't airborne after all?
Eddie: I was wondering about that. The regular CCHF spreads through insect bites or contact with fluids of another infected human.
Hen: Yeah, the super strain tried to change that and made it more unstable in the process.
Buck: Hence Cap's zombie routine.
Chim: Well, thank God for Cap's resurrection powers.
Eddie: I guess Cap has his Halloween costume locked in now.

911 loves to tell me buddie won't be canon but they love to show me it will be gotta love a girl that keeps you guessing
If I had a nickel for every time a character found out that a seemingly good woman was hurting people and got shot in the shoulder right after discovering the truth and taking action, splashing their partner dressed in white with blood and when everyone is running the partner stays put, completely horrified not knowing what to do, while the person they love is bleeding out - Iād have to nickels, which isnāt a lot, but itās weird that it happened twice.
āCan I ask you a question?ā Buck blurts out as Eddie pours creamer into their coffee. Itās the algae creamer that Buck uses. Eddie picked it up when he was out grocery shopping last. Even though he was shopping for his house and not Buckās. Even though he doesnāt use it. Eddie buys a different one for his. Some fancy caramel macchiato type stuff that he splurges on because Frank told him to treat himself and Eddie apparently can only do that with coffee creamer.
āGo for it.ā Eddie hums in reply, clicking the tops shut and carrying the creamer bottles to the fridge. Heās wearing old sweats with a hole in the thigh. Bare toes peek out from the bottom. His shirt is old and loose, dipping at the collar. Thereās an unknown stain on the chest. Heās got day old stubble growing on his jaw and his hair is sleep ruffled and soft. He looks beautiful.
āWanna get married?ā
Eddie fumbles the bottles, the fridge door open, and his head snaps over to Buck, mouth parted in surprise and eyes wide. He says nothing.
āLook, h-hear me out,ā Buck steps forward, rubber spatula gripped tightly in both hands. The eggs heād been about to cook for them for breakfast remain forgotten beside the stove. āWeā¦we love each other. We basically live together. Iām pretty sure Iāve been helping you raise your son?ā Buck releases a slightly manic laugh. āEddie, Iāve never felt so comfortable or at home with someone. Iāve never known another home like I know yours. Iāve seen you at your absolute worst and your absolute best. The same applies for you with me. Andā¦and we still love each other. We keep coming back to each other. And Iā¦I do. You know? L-love you. As a best friend. As a work partner. Asā¦as my person.ā
Eddie is still staring. Mouth open. Eyes wide. Creamer bottles in hand.
āI have loved you since probably the moment I met you. And itās only grown and blossomed intoā¦ā Buck gestures wildly around the room, āThis! Eddie. Weāre already married. Why donāt we make it official?ā
Buck feels like heās run a marathon when he finishes. His chest rises and falls rapidly. His heart is going crazy in his chest.
Eddie slowly turns, puts the creamers away, and shuts the door. Buck watches. Waits.
And then Eddie is walking towards him and Buck canāt read his expression. He always has known what Eddie is thinking. Itās one of the many things Buck loves about the man.
But right now? When Buck has bared it all out in front of them? He has no idea what Eddie is thinking.
āYouā¦ā Eddie trails off, shaking his head. āBuck.ā
āIāā
āAm I allowed to at least take you on a single date before you propose?ā Eddie cuts him off. And a beautiful smile is lighting up his face. Itās soft and sweet and all Buckās.
āIā¦y-yeah. Of c-course.ā
āGood.ā Eddie sways forward, hand resting on Buckās hip, and he brushes his mouth across Buckās. A first kiss. Their first kiss. But it feels like one theyāre exchanged thousands of times. āBut for the recordā¦yes. Iāll marry you.ā
Buck grins back, looping his arms around Eddieās neck and pulling him back in for another kiss. This one longer and deeper.
Eddie snorts when they pull apart, just enough to look at each other. āProposing to me and we arenāt even together.ā
āWeāve always been a little together.ā
āOkay. That may be true.ā Eddie grins, āCan you make breakfast now? Iām hungry.ā
Buck: Thank you for having me, Diazes.
Helena: Friends of our son are always welcome.
Ramon: What's the big news you wanted to talk to us about, Eddie?
Eddie, holding Buck's hand: Mom, dad, I'm gay, and Buck and I are getting married.
Helena: What?!
Ramon: I didn't raise you to be like this!
Eddie: Funny, I didn't think you raised me at all.
I am eating DRYWALL AAAAAH
Further thoughts on Buddie following episodes 8x11.
I'm speculating here, but I think this episode was about setting up a coherent and satisfying narrative around Buck and Eddie's feelings for each other. Look. Buck's recently figured out he's bisexual. If he's going to end up dating Eddie, Eddie needs to come out too. But how do you get two main characters to come out as queer when they've only ever dated women before? That's a wildly convenient coincidence.
(Audiences hate convenient coincidences.)
Now Buck is insisting he's not interested in Eddie. Why isn't he interested in Eddie? Well, Eddie's straight. Okay, that's not really an answer. But it doesn't matter! Because Eddie's straight! Why does everyone think he's in love with his best friend? His best friend is straight!
Suddenly Eddie's sexuality is a question. Is Eddie straight? Why is that important to Buck? What would happen if he wasn't? Fandom has been asking these questions since day one and we've already got more than a few answers of our own. But now Eddie's sexuality is being made salient by the narrative. And we're being told, Buck is not in love with his straight best friend.
So, hypothetically: Eddie comes out as Not Straight. This is no longer a wildly convenient coincidence. It's a complication. (Audiences love complications). Because now Buck has to answer the question that we've just established he does not want to answer. Are you in love with your best friend?
They can also reverse the order. Have Buck answer that question and move on to What Now? In this case, Eddie coming out is now a resolution. (Audiences also love resolutions). I think this is the less interesting path but it's also possible.
Usually when I dissect narratives like this I think in terms of "what I would have done." This is not what I would have done. This is better than what I would have done, because I've never had to convince my audience that People Can Be Queer, Actually, Yes Even Him. I would not have thought to structure it this way. I didn't think to structure it this way, and I've given a lot of thought to how I would hypothetically structure a getting together arc that would be convincing to a mainstream audience. I've been thinking that the only options for Eddie coming out are either Buck is supportive and excited for him as a friend, or Buck is painfully hopeful because he's been pining. Way, way better: Eddie comes out and Buck, who's been insisting for months that just because he's queer doesn't mean he's in love with his best friend, immediately realises he's in love with his best friend. And spirals.
okay, so it's bothering me a little how a lot of people are talking about ryan's acting, and i wanted to give my two cents on it.
for me, it's pretty clear where ryan is going with his acting choices, especially after what he said on the podcast. but for some reason, people are acting as if eddie's lack of emotion is just ryan being a bad actor. i might agree with that in other scenarios, but this time? no. iād say that even though his performance isnāt oscar-worthy, he's still doing a great job portraying whatās happening with eddie.
which is: he's repressing the hell out of his feelings.
and we can see thatāthere are a few instances where his mask slips.
when he learns that buck is going to sublet his house, he can't keep his emotions at bay. in my opinion, he realizes in that moment that he has someone who genuinely loves him and would do anything for him, which just makes things even harder. so, he tries to repress his feelings even more.
when buck brings up the subject of him moving again while theyāre searching for maddie, his faƧade almost slips when he says, "it isn't nothing." but again, he pushes his feelings down. itās obvious heās exhausted from thinking about it and fighting about it with buck.
and finally, when they say goodbye, ryan does something so subtle that if you blink, youād miss itāeddieās smile falters just a little, and his eyebrow twitches while theyāre hugging.
so yeah, itās obvious that eddie is going through it and trying his hardest to keep his feelings locked away. to really understand eddie right now, it's important to keep in mind what ryan said in that podcast about reading between the linesāand also remember that while buck is really expressive with his feelings, eddie is the complete opposite.
I am weird.I am here. I am in so many fandoms i honestly canāt even count it anymore. Also letās go a-spec peeps!! Idfk what im doing
