"she'll certainly never flirt with you again. not that i don't trust you, darling, i just don't like them thinking they can." she already knows what he's going to say in response, a quiet sigh pushing past her lips even as she smiles at him. "come on baby, it's been a decade since the incident. surely we can be more discreet by now." her brows furrow as his words truly sink in, amusement tugging at the corners of her mouth. "you know, you sounded a lot like our therapist with that 'working through my feelings' line." she teases gently, though while she knows the effect that she has on her husband, she knows how he feels about this. she's quiet for a moment, eyes lighting up with mischief a moment later. "what if we went for a quickie in the car and then came back? the windows are tinted, no one would see."
"She thinks she's untouchable I guess but I know you'll prove her wrong." Ross smirked knowing no one did revenge better than his wife. Before she even says a word he knows what she wants based on the way she's touching the back of his neck. Something that always turned him on yet considering their past he had a firm rule of not fucking at these kinds of events. "Sweetheart," he soothed with a firm tone as his hand rested on her waist. "I told you that we aren't doing that again. So we can either leave early or you can find a different way to work through these feelings besides sexually." He replied knowing she wouldn't like the answer yet he wasn't going to give into her demands in this situation.
one hand tight in his own, the other clutched around her knife as they make their way down the stairs, her heartrate returning to normal with every stair they descend. the flush remains on her features though, more bothered than she'd like to be at his former closeness, the remnants of his body a whisper of a memory against her skin. she nods when they're in the clear, finally dropping his hand as the near the bottom floor of the building. "i'm fine. you just startled me, is all." she flicks her gaze around, making sure they were alone before she pushes the last door open, leading them into the street so they could head back to their shelter. "didn't realize you were waiting for an excuse to get close to me." she quips, smiling over her shoulder.

there was no time to warn her; his body acting of its own accord with the need to protect by ensuring she keeps still and avoids many any noise. he'll apologize once they're safe, but until then, his hand remains over her mouth to stifle her breathing while he holds his own. just until the creaking of whatever creature passes over their heads. when she takes his hand, he doesn't think anything of it and clasps into it tightly as he follows after her towards the stairwell. once they've wound round and round down a few levels, fox helping her over the occasional piles of broken concrete, he finally speaks. "you alright?" his voice comes out soft and low and slightly muffled behind his mask.
she doesn't drop her hands away from his face even when the kiss break and he speaks, thumbs brushing gently over the stubble across his jaw. it's the softest that they've ever been with each other without question, peace and anxiety thrumming through her veins in equal measure. "i'm not asking you to suddenly dote on me. just stop fighting me all the damn time, gwaine. we didn't even need to fight now until you decided to take your anger out on me." she sighs heavily, shoulders dropping as her hands fall from his face only to rest on his chest instead. selaena had never wanted a marriage like this in the first place, she'd just been too blinded by her own anger to so much as give him a chance. "i don't know. i've never tried, and you've never let me close enough to." there had always been that wall placed between them, any chance of them moving forward thwarted by it. "you try not to hurt me, i'll try not to hurt you. that sounds like a decent start to me."
gwaine wasn't surprised that she kissed him, it was what she tended to do if he became worked up. it would always lead to them sleeping together and brushing off whatever argument they'd just had until it happened again. but this time he found himself opening his eyes in confusion. it was slow, and intense, less exploring him and more...intimate?
it did feel as though she was asking a lot of him though, how could he not resent. it's the only feeling he's been running on since their wedding. "i can't just wake up and dote on you like a loving husband," he felt possessive of her but he believed neither of their feelings could be classified as romantic, lustful for sure, and maybe if given a choice he'd have gotten to know her and choose to be with her, but that hadn't been their story.
"you think you can look at me and say you can accept all i am?" he knew he was an emotional man, he was told that all the time. "how do you expect us to change?"
isabelle barely has time to react, sucking in a sharp breath muffled by his hand as she stills against the wall. half of her is so shocked by his closeness that she can’t register much else, unable to remember the last time she’d had another person’s body upon hers. not since before the world had turned to shit perhaps. she blinks twice, hearing the creaking a moment later and a familiar fear shocks up her spine. it’s not the first time fox has saved her ass and she doubts it’ll be the last, her breathing turning heavy under his palm even as a hand trails down towards the knife on her thigh. she flicks her gaze to the door to their left, reaching up with her free hand to remove his own from her mouth, holding onto his palm as she leads him towards the stairwell in the hopes of escape.

he's on them in an instant, almost from out of nowhere. a hand immediately flies up to cover their mouth before any sound could be made, while he uses the rest of his body to press them up against the nearest wall to prevent any movement that would otherwise give their positions away. his eyes, a cold and hard blue, remain intensely locked with theirs, silently ordering them to stop struggling and keep quiet. an agonizing few seconds pass before the faint creaking of floorboards follows the heavy shuffling of... something could be heard above their heads. and despite the multiple layers he has on, a chill makes the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. one wrong move, one single sound, and they could be swarmed in an instant.
she doesn't see him until gwaine's practically upon them, the anxiety in her chest easing the moment he gets involved. selaena watches wide eyed at the way gwaine reacts, the viscount grunting in pain at the way his hand is bent almost to the breaking point. her own hands move to straighten down her dress from where he rumpled it, amusement shining in her eyes at the rage gwaine spews. my apologies, my lord. she hears the viscount muttering as he pushes himself off the floor, storming off back into the ballroom while clutching his wrist. her gaze turns to gwaine then, heavy sigh leaving her lips. "what a vile pig. i love how he apologized to you and not the person he groped." her eyes roll, frown settling on her features. "thank you for that."
hearing her reaction was enough to get gwaine to be upset at the right person. and his feet moved fast as he turned the corner and grabbed the viscount by the wrist and bent it back. "unless you're new or a fool, then why risk your life by touching what's mine?" he said shoving the man into the wall making one of the paintings shake. "she's a married woman you fucking rake. if you're looking for a rutting, then make your way to a whore house."
"and how do you expect me to keep it a secret without a reason, huh?" he knows that he's being an asshole, his frustration pushing him further and further into that territory without him being able to stop it. "it's not like my reputation would be ruined by showing up somewhere with you on my arm. or is that what you're so afraid of, that people will talk?"
" it's about more than my marriage. " she replied coldly. if the truth came out it would damage her reputation too. her work would find out ... it wouldn't be good. she was seen as a pillar of the community. " we have to keep it a secret — that's all. "
"that hasn't really been my experience. you'd be surprised by how convincing my dick can be." he teased, chaffing against the idea of taking responsibility for what was inherently his fault. he sighs, scratching the back of his neck as he walks towards her, hands gripping her waist and squeezing gently. "look baby, i'd much rather be spending my night with you like we'd planned. but when work calls with a situation, it's that life and death shit that i gotta deal with."
“ you know, you can’t fuck your way out of situations like this. out of me being mad. ” word was delivered on bitter wave, one that crashed against her tongue and flooded her mouth with the accosting taste of the resentment she was bottling. ‘mad’ was an understatement, an almost comical one given her current state of mind. “ my one fucking free night in ages and you promised me we would go out… spend time together. but i guess i’m the dumb one for thinking you’d make good on that, huh. ”
he snorts at that, shaking his head in amusement that that's where her mind goes. "i just don't sleep with a shirt on is all. if it makes you uncomfortable though, i'm willing to suffer for you." it was unnerving how much he was willing to do for her in such a short amount of time. he'd not felt quite this strongly for another woman since his wife died, leaving that gaping hole in his heart. he's not so sure wen it started mending. he listens as she explains, taking a seat on the edge of the bed and gazing into her eyes as he nods his head once. "okay." he says it simply, sincerely. "i can give you time. a chance with you is worth it to me. i'm just sorry i put you in this position in the first place." he pulls back the covers on his side of the bed, sliding beneath them before settling on his back.
Just as she hangs up the phone she notices him already getting undressed which makes her laugh for some reason as she moves to lay in the bed. "If you think getting undressed in front of me is going to seduce me you're so wrong," she grins thinking of how she could torture him though during this trip. With a sigh she props herself on an elbow watching him. "Oh you wanted to get to know me for more than how to use my gallery as a front for illegal arms deals?" She laughs again shaking her head remembering everything that happened that first night between them. How naive she felt when she realized why he was actually in her gallery that night. "I'm not hiding behind anything by the way. If I really wanted to fuck with you I'd sleep naked. Tomas, it's just really hard for me to move past it. The last guy who wanted to get to know me ended up being a mistake too. I guess, I just need time? If you really want me as bad as you say you do then you'll be patient with me. I don't know what else to tell you."
he's not thrilled about the idea of babysitting the girl, but ray had been his friend a long time, and he'd always been sweet on lorna too. he knows that if the situations had been reversed and he was the one whose kid had been targeted, they would do the same for him. he turns when he hears her enter, blowing smoke out the window as he takes in every inch of her. gorgeous like her mother and bold like her father, he can't help but drag his eyes over her frame before snorting at her words. "they'll get over it. tell them to bill me for the smoke damage." he grumbles, eyes trained on her as she approaches. the last thing he expects is the gentle brush of her hand against his, inhaling softly as her lips wrap around where his previously were. it's a distraction he doesn't need, an attraction he shouldn't be feeling. "let's just keep that list to things that won't get you killed, huh?"

The way her parents were over reacting about this situation was beyond insulting. Bea was an adult now which meant she was perfectly capable of taking care of herself. Yet instead of just being able to lay low for a couple days at her apartment a glorified baby sitter was sent to watch over her. At least it was someone decent to look at and not her older brother this time. "You know my parents would be pissed to know you're smoking in here." She challenges finally emerging from her bedroom finding him smoking by the window. There had been a tension between them that wasn't completely sexual but for her it would help make this situation more tolerable. Slowly she walked towards him maintaining eye contact as she delicately plucked the cigarette out of his hand and inhaled, tilting her head up as she exhaled before slowly turning to face him again. "But there's a lot of things I do that my parents don't know about." She whispered before taking another drag as she stared into his eyes.
"right, can't imagine waking up to you trying to spoon me would be something you'd be pleased about." he quips, tone back to his usual dryness even if he is amused at the visual. her not wearing much to bed, on the other hand, was something he knew damn well he would struggle with once put into practice. he can control himself better than most, but she was temptation even without her stripping down to much. it's been a long time since he's merely laid in bed with another woman and he's well aware of that fact as they gaze at each other, him propped up on his side as if they were going to discuss their days. when she pulls up the photo, he reaches for his spectacles on the bedside table, placing them on his nose before taking the phone displaying the gorgeous brunette. "my business, huh? do you mean specifically arms dealing or is he just a criminal?" his brows rise at the fact that she'd left her family allegedly, distaste settling in at the equally disturbing possibility that she could have been taken against her will. "i can help you find her." he offers simply, knowing damn well he had more contacts than her to do so. he wants to reach for her, to comfort her, but the room service interrupts them entirely and he knows the opportunity has passed. he rolls onto his back, watching her in disbelief as she takes off her clothes before dragging his own shirt over his form. "jesus christ, harriet." he has an instant hard on, glad that the covers are hiding his growing hardness at the side of her. "playing dirty is more like it."
Harriet waves him off not wanting to make him completely uncomfortable considering their sleeping arrangements were already less than ideal. "It's fine honestly, I won't be wearing much to bed either. Which is why we have the pillow wall. So neither of our subconsciousness react." There was something so simple and domesticated about sitting in bed together like this. It's exactly what she craved from a relationship, the companionship of it all. That was something she wanted for a long time yet time after time she never got it. For him to be willing to wait hurt her heart but Harriet needed to protect it too. "You know there is something else that's getting in your way," she sighs reaching for her phone. "My older sister Holly starting having an affair with someone who works in the same business as you." She hints as she pull up a picture of Holly, showing it to him. "One day she just disappears. She was married, has kids and just left. Bitch didn't even leave a note to say if she was okay so now for all I know my sister is just dead somewhere because she fell for a guy who wasn't exactly the best." Biting on her lower lip she let's that familiar ache slip in. Then the sound of someone at the door makes her jump, wiping her eyes as she accepts the pillows and blankets. "So it's more than just that," she sighs as she sets them on the bed before starting to get undressed. Harriet pulls off her shirt tossing it aside and picks his up slipping it over her head. With a smirk she gives him a wink before getting back into the bed next to him. "A sign of good faith," she shrugs as she sets the pillows between them. "Smells good by the way."
