I am once again asking for The Feminists in My Phone's blessing for my exam today
I love being in a women-only fighting class but kinda miss being able to kick men when I was in a mixed one :(
It follows Delia, a woman stuck in an abusive marriage, during the days of the first italian general elections in which women were allowed to vote, just after the liberation from fascism, while american troops were still patrolling italian streets.
It's fun and delicate while tackling important issues, and it's one of the few strongly feminist movies that managed to appeal to the general public in a country in which femicide is still a prominent issue which our government refuses to talk about.
It was Cortellesi's directional debut (she's also a co-writer and plays the main character), which is wonderful on its own but even more so as it was the most successful film at the Italian box office in 2023.
Please please please support women directors, especially those who are not american and struggle to get to an international public.
Paola Cortellesi and Emanuela Fanelli in "There's still tomorrow"/"C'è ancora domani" (2023)
I'm begging all feminists to watch this movie if you haven't, it was huge in Italy and deserves more international recognition
when I hear that from men who study math I always tell them "you're not good at math and it shows" because how have you never heard of Emmy Noether
men be like "if women are really that intelligent, why are all major discoveries made by men? 🤓" as if they didn’t quite literally burn women alive if they were smart back in the day
"all girls are bad at math" <- actual real women are discouraged to pursue stem careers and if they do, they feel an enormous amount of pressure
"all women are bad at driving" <- actual real women are discouraged to get a driving license, which limits their freedom because they depend on husbands/fathers
"all men are trash" <- that one guy who's probably trash doesn't feel venerated in the niche leftist online space which he mistakes for real life
fixed it for you.
men: *create degrading stereotypes about women, abuse women, overall harm women* women: men fucking su-
people for some reason: WOWWWW THESE GENDER WARS HAVE GOT TO STOP 🥺 THESE ARE EQUALLY AS BAD
In Italy, it's really common for clubs (like discos) to do free entry for women, which is clearly a marketing tactic to get more disgusting males to buy a ticket because they're going to find girls there.
Is this common in other countries as well? Do young people talk about it? Here it's a huge MRA argument for "women's privilege" 🙄
I completely agree with the post and I see the place the reblog is coming from but I just want to address some things, don't read my response as rude as it is not my intention:
you CAN and WILL find safe and satisfying relationships; if you're a straight woman these are going to be friendships with other women because, I agree, the probability of finding happiness and respect in a relationship with a man is near zero (and we may as well take it to be zero because this is real life we're talking about)
we live in a patriarchal society, and men are actively taught and encourage to torment women in various ways, that's true: build walls around yourself, become physically and mentally strong, find a community in which to find comfort and protection
you have the power to be independent, you have the power to resist the constraints in which society tries to force you; find that independence and use it to help other women
statistically, every man is going to mistreat you, older men often have the financial means to make it harder for you to get out - an high-school boyfriend can get violent, an older man can do that + make it impossible for you to leave if you depend on him, it's not worth it
being alone is better sometimes; other people will damage you, sure, but again, you're going to find a community and often the damage a boyfriend/husband/occasional partner can do to you doesn't compare to that done by other people (excluding family members)
not everyone is a predator, most men are (probably all the ones you cross your path with) but most women aren't; you're going to find women who are nice to you because you're smart and interesting and fun
It’s extremely disturbing to see so many young girls obsessed with older men and actively seeking them out. Despite what you may have been told this is not normal or quirky and is a sign that you probably need therapy. That grown man that’s giving you attention isn’t lana del rey vinyl, he’s a predator. You’re a victim of patriarchal oppression that targets young girls.
20-something socialist woman, this blog is a sharing space for thoughts and opinions because I miss being politically active (which is on hold for personal reasons - mainly getting a degree)
I'll talk mainly about feminist theory and anything related, my positions are radical - I'd love to interact with people who share (not necessarily) similar views.
Also some occasional posts on music, art and the likes, everything fiercely nonconformist.
You can call me M :)
do this thing !!!!!!
I made a "which mutual am I" thing so here you go💥💥💥
This was fun to make actually :]
