One of the lowest points of the leftist/feminist cultural landscape in my country, posting because I'm still mad:
So-called feminist author (a woman) runs one of the most important independent book fairs in Italy.
Last year's edition was dedicated to a young woman who was killed by her former boyfriend.
Also last year, this author (a man) was invited while being accused of domestic violence by his former girlfriend - this was widely known at the time of the invite.
Before being found guilty, he revokes his participation from the fair. Some time later (days or few weeks, I think), the matter is taken to court, they find him guilty.
Condemned to 4 years (because domestic violence is a joke for courts).
The woman organising the fair goes to the press and says "it's a shame that he revoked his participation, I will still hold the event and I'll talk about his book instead of him"
Some days later she apologies, the apology is along the lines of "we hurt your feelings, we're sorry, we're going to replace his event with a panel on feminism".
She's considered one of the most prominent feminist intellectuals at the moment in Italy.
He was considered an ally and constantly praised by other so-called feminist women in intellectual spheres.
one time my university invited a motivational speaker and he started by talking about historical figures he found inspirational (like in business/economics) and then asked "what do they have in common?" and a girl in the crowd shouted "they're all men!"
Not sure who she was but I'll never forget her
Feminists have never treated men the way mysoginists treat women, so yeah, I think this was abundantly clear.
Hello there! Dear tumblr user, did you know that "men as a class hold privilege and power over women" and "men are human beings who deserve basic decency" are two stances that can coexist :)
nonna didn't have time because she was shooting fascists <3
what r ur opinions on youth liberation?
hoping I understood the question as it is quite general
I think the nuclear (and hetero-patriarchal) family model is fundamentally limiting for all people involved, especially women and youth - meaning children and adolescents (especially girls, once again).
The power that parents have over their children is deeply detrimental to their freedom and development. Violence against children is still used as an educational method, a widely accepted one, and lots of parents still consider their kids as property or, in the best case scenario, an extension of themselves. Getting out of abusive households is practically impossible, especially when economic means are lacking (and these are often the most critical situations).
In the past, I have advocated for practical measures (many of which were actually adopted in my hometown) in order to help young people gain autonomy and freedom, one of these was keeping high schools open during the afternoon (which isn't common in my country) with both organized and self-managed activities (tutoring, study rooms, psychological counsel, book exchange) in order to give kids in difficult situations a safe place for a few hours and also seek the counsel of people who could help them.
I was raised in an extremely liberal manner, my parents always treated me with respect and they managed to make me understand my responsibilities throughout life by talking to me in an age appropriate manner but never asserting their authority as adults, just as more experienced people. I'm really grateful but I realize that it's unrealistic to expect that all parents raise their kids well (despite it being their responsibility), which is why I talked about nuclear family in the beginning, I believe that true freedom can only be achieved by community.
hardest part about studying stem is not the stem it's the fucking incel classmates thinking they're special and smart
like ok we can all solve differential equations but can you do that while being a decent person? mm yeah didn't think so
Blue!
I too want to be friends with all the feminists in my phone, dms are always open :)))
for reparation, you know
i want to shake many young women and say you can grow in private. and what i mean by that is that you don’t have to publicly self-flagellate when you don’t know something or when you say something a little insensitive or whatever else. you don’t have to report your Bad Thoughts and Ignorance to the crowd who waits to judge you. you do not have to pay penance. you do not have to issue public statements. nothing more is gained from burying yourself in shame than you could gain by thinking “oh i don’t know about this” and looking it up real quick, or thinking “hm, that wasn’t how i want to behave, i’ll do different next time” and then moving on with your life. no need to choke yourself with it.
do this thing !!!!!!
I made a "which mutual am I" thing so here you go💥💥💥
This was fun to make actually :]
why is this such a common opinion?
why is "men will be unable to not rape unless they can buy access to a woman's body" something people just say without realising how insane that sounds
