The IceHell Resurgence of 2022
Hello! I am A Person On The Internet, and this is the announcement of something that just recently came to me on a whim - The 2022 IceHell Resurgence, a movement inspired by @aboringredmop !
What is IceHell?
IceHell is a genre of DHMIS fanfiction/fanart and a group of people who wrote/drew for this genre. It was mainly active in 2014-2015, and is now dead. IceHell works would revolve around the human versions of Tony the Talking Clock and the Sketchbook, who would be referred to as Paige, with the original designs from Aishaneko:
It then exploded in popularity because of art of the designs made by modmad on tumblr. Modmad added details that later became canon for most IceHell works, such as Tony using a sword and Paige using a pencil or pen as a weapon, as well as the strange dynamic of the two being both lovers and murdering/torturing each other in increasingly graphic ways, as well as torturing the students.
Despite the horrifying content, IceHell exploded in popularity, with Padlock, the ship of Tony and Paige, running rampant across both tumblr and ao3. People found the sadistic lovers very entertaining, if a bit edgy. You can still find a plethora of IceHell fics, with the most popular and notable being by Oryx_Gazella on ao3.
However, in present day, the DHMIS fandom has taking a less edgy turn, and IceHell is something that has been abandoned as a thing of the past. Many people believe that the death of IceHell is for the best.
I disagree.
What is the IceHell Resurgence of 2022?
The IceHell Resurgence is a movement, which is founded by me but not led by anyone, which will be a push to revitalise the DHMIS IceHell genre! On an undecided day, most likely the 19th of June, the IceHell Resurgence will commence, with all participating members publishing artwork and fanfiction that falls under the IceHell banner. This can feature the original Padlock, IceHell versions of other dhmis teachers whose appearance was after IceHell, or anything that could fall under the IceHell banner. Gore is not only okay, it's highly recommended given what the subject material is.
IceHell, while dated and overly edgy to the point of being comical, is a cornerstone of the DHMIS fandom, and I feel that we should pay tribute to the group and genre that kickstarted our fandom!

i'll just say who's who and thats all i think yellow guy is basically a vessel with feelings. it can't talk, but it's one of those vessels who can actually feel emotions duck guy became a cicada who's ones lived in dirthmound, but decided to start his own adventure. he became a cicada bc of some videos that said cicada's sounded like ducks red guy is a mysterious bug, similar to ze'mer/grey mourner but wasn't really there at the times when hallownest was an actual kingdom. he came when it was in ruins and join the band as the last member
ok the final teahcer out there!
the lamp guy, or larry decided im gonna make him a once popular actor of hallownest, but after the infection he got carried away with lifeblood like we know it adds life, but we don't know whats gonna happen with bugs if there's too much lifeblood what if with that he got some addiction and became a crazied dude, who needs lifeblood? thats the idea! also, he is kind of a fusion of fireflies and click beetle
the only ones that left out there is the main trio soo

ok the crew from dhmis 5 is ready!!!!!
can't really tell much about them but i have some bits of thoughts under the cut:
so the first little dude i made was spinach can!! i had an idea that they were one of the gardeners of queen's garden when the infection spreaded and kingdom fell they did survive, but lots their mind. thats it for this small dude based their look on shieldbugs
next dude was steak guy/ david(???) he was a quite hard one basically i needed something that could show that he is a chef and plus he is a bug i stopped on gravedigger Beetle and decided to kinda 'invert' it's colours to make them similiar to meat or some shit aaaand here we are! he is an infected bug that was ones a chef in city of tears thats all!
next one is bread boy!!! he was simple, just a random bug that as much random as his appearence in the episode i think he is some sort of beetle? yea, maybe
the last one is the fridge guy i decided to make him a mantis that wandered from the distant village and decided to live on its own maybe he is some sort of adventurer? exploring hallownest in its fallen glory! who knows, who knows
so thats it!!! the last ones we have is lamp guy/larry and the main trio and that will be all with this hollow knight au kind of thingy.

this is the computer, or as lots of fans call him in fandom, colin
it was hard to decide what should he be and what he should do
so i decided he is going to be a librarian wasp
he was once working at the hive's library but when the infection hit the hive he closed it out of panic and hid himself there for a good while
he is still alive but tries to leave his library as rare as he can
for real the hardest part was to make him look like colin, especially by the color scheme but also keep his colors same as the hive's theme and i stopped at this

i wanted to keep his 'religious' theme so it was decided he is gonna be a made-up priest
he is actually alife in the game!!!! he was once living at western side of the capital/city of tears when the infection was only starting, but after the disappearance of pale king and the whole crizis he hid himself in one of the parts of watcher's spire he is believing in the 'savior of the hallownest' (pale king) and thinks that he is not actually dead but hidden somewhere he even made a small statue of pale king out of random thing and painted it in white but after some while in game he also gets infected :(

thats like tony!!! he is a moth!!! moth 're like ancient species so i chose to make him a moth
by the lore he is kind of naive, grumpy but a very loyal and prideful bug because of this reasons it was decided that he would work as a 'cloak warder' (yes thats a joke about clocks and cloaks yup) in the local clock tower of capital (city of tears). times got by, the infection started and one day he died very quickly from one of the infectious bugs he didn't get infected though so his corpses are staying at the top of the tower and he still guarding the tower (plus he still thinks he is alive) fun facts!!!!!! he doesn't like when someone goes into the insides of tower and gets all grumpy you see that king's idol? he is carrying it as a charm. sign of loyalty to the king his nail is black and should basically represent clock's arrow
so my two interests collibed and now this abomination of crossover exists i love it actually omg
i thought about making intigration of dhmis character into hollow knight universe so now we have couple of these with some lore
this should be sketchbook's design in hollow knight she is a small spider, same size as the pale king she once worked at the white palace as the weaver of white palace. he decided to take her for this job bc a) she is a spider b) being a spider means getting closer to deepnest she had to make a things in a similiar design as the white palace itself but she was very craftsy and needed some creativity after a small incident with paints she was mysteriosly killed and should've stayed as a ghost i think in the mind of that kingsmould she would've been alive and you could hit her so she would disappear as other retainers

Love the padlock art you made 💙💙 the human dhmis and padlock fandom is pretty niche, especially nowadays. So it wouldn't surprise me if that art doesn't get a lot of traction... But that's why i wanted to send a message and say how much i appreciate still seeing new padlock art. They're big comfort characters to me.

doves is a baby boy, kinda similiar to ralsei but much more energetic and childish
before the spade king became a new ruler of the dark world 1 doves was a messenger for a clubs king (his suit is clubs so), but after the spade king just basically locked everyone in cages he was just walking around and giving people random letters with the most random text, it could get from poetry to grocery list bc he just doesn't have anything to do, but he do tries to find some business, for example he started to write short poetries
also he was living in a castle before but the king just kicked him out of castle bc he thought he was really pathetic and before susie and kris appeared he just roamed around the dark world 1 almost living in trash
he supposed to be smaller then ralsei
if he was in deltarune now he would've live in the new an empty town with everyone else at one of the random houses near the shops or smth
